Player/Analyst Tweets & Other Things – LCS 2021 Week 1 - TSM vs FLY

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening GrubhubGamers!
What is this thread?
The main purpose of this thread is to provide a place for all social media posts/comments related to TSM’s games of the week from pro players/analysts/influencers/orgs. The thread is updated manually after every game in this order:
Interview (if TSM wins) > TSM Tweets > Opponent Tweets > Others
I also take notes on LCS Co-streamer’s analysis (sometimes 2+) but because it is not the major focus of this thread, the quality varies from day to day and I would highly recommend just watching their vod which I’ll provide here if it is available.

DURING DRAFT

Doublelift
  • Game should really favor TSM. Licorice hasn't been playing well. PoE beats Palafox. Johnsun/Diamond have been so bad. Everywhere it should be favored for TSM with an argument for jungle.
  • Spica is trolling Doublelift by hovering Shaco because Doublelift has been talking to Spica about how broken Shaco is.
  • FLY trying to put Jose on Hecarim to 1v9 is really smart.
  • Top lane is a toss up. Throughout Double's career people have been saying different sides of the GP/Camille match up wins. Camille is very flavor of the month right now.
  • Camille is a great pick into Alistar. Can 1 tap Alistar.
  • Camille/Ori is a great combo. Supported by Hecarim to buy space, Seraphine for follow-up and speeds and shields. Rell for the wombo.
  • Likes both comps a lot. TSM has 2 good hard stuns for Taliyah W.
  • Comet on Lost MF would be good. If Seraphine is using W on cooldown then she is getting shit on. You want lane domination with MF. Comet + E build would be fine. How is he going to get in auto range vs Camille/Hecarim.

DURING GAME

Doublelift
  • Really good start for TSM. Full control of the game. (~4) They have double crab and vision of enemy jungler. They're down ~100 gold but are able to do whatever they want because of their vision control.
  • Huni is winning every trade even when he hasn't even based yet (~6:15)
  • FlyQuest's bot lane every game has been so bad. They really need to step it up.
  • Really nice to see TSM's bot lane improvement. (~8:50) Everytime Swordart roams, they get something off it.
    • Happy to see Lost go cleanse versus this lane. Can only die by getting hard cc-ed. Seraphine/Rell do no damage. Lost can just chill bot while Swordart can just roam the map.
  • Insane play from FLY despite PoE playing it really well (~12:30) FLY only had to commit once flash (Camille). 3 ult usage doesn't matter because they'll be back up for the next objective.
  • TSM couldn't find a good herald timing with the advantage they created early game
  • FLY decide to trade drag to save Licorice's TP and top side vision (~21)
    • end up not getting much top side because TSM clear their vision right after drag.
  • Really smart Macro decision from TSM (~25) to shove top to force FLY to back right before drag so they could gain control of the drag area before FLY.
  • TSM could've completely taken over the game but failed to push their early leads. FLY are running pure scaling. Lost should've went a completely different route with his build. Tried to build and play like a normal adc this game (auto attacks) when he gets blown up if he ever gets in aa range versus this comp. (~31)
  • Game is over against soul + scaling comp. (~33)
LS
  • MF needs to buy executioners and also probably even Serpants Fang in this game (super unvalued item). No one having GW here is super bad. Moonstaff seraphine just invalidating people (~30)
Pastrytime
  • Is Camille balanced???????????????
    • CaptainFlowers: ofc not KEKW
    • Dig Invert: No, they should have nerfed her 2+ patches ago
Raz
  • Licorice is playing really well to just sit in fog these drake fights. Literally no ay for Lost or POE to move up safely. Game should give fans of FLY a lot of confidence.
Empyre
  • A bit of a draft canyon this game. (~33)
100T Lustboy
  • those seraphine ults
SNG Nelson
  • TSM best mid game i've seen from an NA team for a while
    • Ahh and Lost is lost

    • Diamond: allied healing 11k we didn't check
    • Dash: 11,365 total healing from Johnsun. Can't parse between what came from just ability vs moonstone
  • That was one of the cleaner games I've watched so far in 2021. Fly played super intelligent and clean overall, and not much TSM can do with that doomed draft and how the lanes were playing (cant just play passively and pingpong, have to manipulate relative to jungler..)

PREGAME

Doublelift
  • fastest shaco hover any% @Spicalol
    • Spica: shaco hover till I win
    • Treatz: Kayn hover to lift the curse
Doublelift (Stream)
  • Pisses him off that people flame Spica when every lane is losing. Also PoE's champ pool doesn't support the fact that Spica likes to be aggressive early.
  • Mothra vs Godzilla in the top lane! (Huni vs Finn)
Logitech G Esports
  • In this image we get just a glimpse of @Spicalol explaining his secrets to winning League of Legends games. It's time to tune into Sunday #LCS as we have @TSM facing off against old time rivals CLG.

DURING DRAFT

Doublelift
  • Doesn't understand why Bjerg gives CLG first pick Udyr when it's so broken right now.
  • If Spica hovers Shaco, TSM wins.
    • TSM wins.
  • Not sure why they need to pick Olaf/Azir in response to Udyr. Is Azir highly contested? Is it some strong important takeaway from CLG? No. Olaf makes sense into UdyCamille though.
  • TSM need to ban MF 2nd round or they might get shit on. Ori is also an acceptable ban though since it supports Camille/Udyr so well.
  • Xayah/Leona is a strong 2v2. Likes the draft. Mobility/Stats/Dmg on TSM but not much cc. CLG's comp requires good positioning and is looking to pick people off/long range wombo.
  • Wants to see more cohesiveness. Getting things off Swordart's roams. Also TSM's lanes have been so weak so far. They really need to fix their laning.
Tim Sevenhuysen
  • TSM averaged -1,548 GD15 in their first two games, for an EGR of 28.2 (28.2% win probability at 15:00).
  • IMT have played 3 games with a 21.0 EGR, so TSM aren't the worst early-game team in the league, and they'll need to be very bad today to that point.

DURING GAME

Lolesports Stats: RUNES
Doublelift
  • Top lane will be a big point of contention. People have been really afraid of Huni's Lulu. Really wants to see why.
  • Likes the early ward from Huni but it seems likely that Udyr will get there after the ward expires.
  • Udyr's pathing (2:40) is really weird. He invades blue, wards it and then backs. Is now behind 2 camps.
    • Figures that since Huni came to lane early, Udyr must have thought that he was getting split mapped.
  • Udyr going the long way around to gank top was really smart (~5:20)
  • Wildturtle is playing like a pussy in the 1v1 versus Lost. He wins that 1v1 everytime with the current rune setup but he backs away. (8:30)
  • Swordart played this entire segment really badly. All he had to do was ward the lantern.(10:40)
  • TSM at least have a good win condition since they're on track to get soul.
  • Herald take from CLG at (~16:20) is smart/important because it's really hard to take mid turret versus Azir. Even if 5 show mid, Azir could probably just protect turret with his soldiers.
  • Thinks CLG deciding to go for 3k+ gold instead of going for drags is bad. Would much rather have the 3 drags(~18)
  • Lost almost smurfed the 5th drag fight. What happened to Swordart was really unlikely. He tried to E to keep Udyr in pit but Udyr drags him over the pit with his flash.
  • Big throw by CLG giving up baron. Xayah does a lot of damage now. Says Xayah late game is actually better than Aphelios. Really hard to kill too.
  • Hates that Swordart tries to combo Udyr when he has like 50+ tenacity. (~31:50)
  • TSM should not care about top lane during 6th drag. TSM should have the mindset here that it would even be worth giving up 3 inhibs for this ocean soul.
  • Not sure why CLG are trying to win via split. They should really be trying to 5v5, split isn't going to work at this point.
  • TSM's comp late game is disgusting late game. Can't really lose with Azir Lulu Xayah.
  • Doublelift thinks they could've ended on several different pushes but TSM is scared to attempt to end with eldeocean soul.
  • Finn refuses to group with the team for some reason. Finn's decision making is really disgusting like a bot.
    • In his mind he believes they will never win a 5v5, but he will also never win by split pushing. Should always go for the 5v5 rather than just randomly splitting.
Tim Sevenhuysen
  • Not including today's game, @Lost_adc has played ~36 games in the #LCS, including regionals, Lock In, etc., dating back to Summer 2018. (Not counting any Academy.) Before that, he played ~83 games in the OPL. He still has a lot of unexplored potential, though! I believe in him.(~11)
  • In a team comp with Leona, Azir, and Olaf, the best engager for TSM has been Lost. On Xayah. #LCS (~9m before end)
Raz
  • Camille flashed and almost die to the lulu botside on minimap during herald set-up (~17)
    • TimSevenhuysen: That sounds like a positive Huni play, which is not allowed and therefore is unlikely to have occurred.
*Rjs has had really good reaction timing this game. That flash away from Leona E flash is really hard to react to.(~21)
  • 1 baron side inhib for ocean soul is not worth. (~34)
Pastrytime
  • For having some pretty meh splits in recent memory @Smoothie been looking kinda nice lately. Hopefully a continued return to form for once lauded support. (~15)
  • I spy a Bandleglass mirror, but not on the Lulu 🤔
SNG Nelson
  • Why do you force 2v2s against Zoe Udyr? Do you have more than 5 summoner spells or cleanse or have more stats? (~15)
Markz
GG Danan
  • this already feels like one of those games where neither team wins (~33)
Travis Gafford
  • holy crap this game is hilarious. Just feels like there's so much ego on the line, especially with how much reggie has talked down on CLG previously
    • but it was nice of CLG to burn baron down half way for them
Treatz
  • This #LCS game is quite... Interesting to say the least 😤(~32)

  • Best CLG vs TSM match I've watched (~32)
  • CLG is the funniest fucking team I swear

  • Both Swordart and Finn ran away from home to join the circus.
  • "I went to world's for this."
  • Fuck it. I'm a CLG fan - this is hilarious. RUN MUPPETS RUN
IWD
  • Its an absolute horror show
Locodoco
  • Is Finn on a restricted VISA? Is he not allowed to go botside of the map and split?
Santorin
  • Hey what's going on????(~41)
Emily Rand
  • This one is going to be a good gold graph image...
Rogue Flyy
  • Why did rjs tp there!?!?! (~5min before end)
Allorim
  • It must be a rough weekend for CLG fans
CoreJJ
  • 2020 League is stronger than 2021 League. (~3min before end of game)
Dunc
  • I want out of this game please

POST GAME

INTERVIEW w/ PowerOfEvil

  • Not satisfied. Game was really chaotic and the team currently isn't on the same page. Too many voices. Really need to figure out how to unite. Feels good to end the week with a win.
  • Down gold, lost dragon fight. Game was really hard. Zoe got caught and they knew it was their chance to turn it around at Baron. They were stronger in split push so it was just a game about defending the base against Camille. Had to do a lot of communication as the defender.
  • A lot of fans are saying we're really bad and he understands. He was in a similar situation on FLY where people were telling him that FLY isn't a playoff team but he made finals back to back. Thinks his teammates are strong individually and they'll work on improving.

OTHERS

LS
  • Now that the Royal Fumble: Senior Center has finally ended, I'll give my thoughts in just a moment on what this Clash of Trash prequel trailer might mean for Kong vs Zilla later this year.
  • TSM are quite literally a bottom tier team atm&there's no easy fixing it, especially not with 5 weeks left. Their laning phases, overall individual gameplay ideas (player by player) & drafting are all insanely bad. This is several times now they got away w/ stealing the mona lisa
  • They've consistently been in losing positions and game states for a long time (it reminds me of summer where they also committed robberies, mostly on the back of bjergsen to win games). The reason I'm doubtful they can improve is because how can they realistically?
  • Intent is absent in their gameplay - Intent is where you would see coaching or other things take affect, and yet it's no where to be found. They look similar to earlier versions of TSM, just with a now worse roster and w/o Bjergsen to save them.
  • I'm not optimistic anything can change, because my perception is that Bjergsen was always the coach anyway, and it's unfair to blame him, because he's put in an impossible position imo. He never had anyone help him, so how can he be expected to know what to do to fix such issues?
  • He was NAs by far&away best player so long, &carried so many iterations of the team on his back through sheer power of his gameplay and finding wins where they didn't belong. Now he's absent, but the foundational problems that plague the team regrow like nature overgrowing a city

The Dive 2021 Power Rankings - Link(39:00 for TSM discussion)
Summary Power Rankings by Kobe/Azael/Markz:
Azael: Individually Strong, POE back to back finalist, always solid. Spica made huge improvements, proactive at Worlds. Swordart will be outstanding but is unsure how he will do Lost. Imagine if 5 million dollar Swordart still ends up losing lane with Lost. Thinks TSM will be very proactive, putting carries on Huni/Spica with Swordart roaming and Lost being a secure late game carry. Hard to say how they will come together as a unit.
Kobe/Markz: Huni is still a massive question mark and the elephant in the room.
Kobe: Overpaid for Swordart. Spica and Swordart are going to be really proactive. Spica at the end of the season heavily prioritized ganks over farming in a farming meta, and Swordart turbo roams all over the map all the time. Pro players have told Kobe about how annoying it is playing against him, even being top at level 2 sometimes.
Markz: Great meta for roaming supports right now and Swordart could contest Corejj as the top support in the League. Huni top lane is still the huge question mark. Pro players still look at him in high regards despite the general public viewing him as a con man paycheck stealer. Huni's strong play isn't translating to stage although part of it was because of having weak teammates.
Azael: Pro players are base most of their opinions off scrims and scrims are typically more scrappy. Coach Bjerg is also another big question mark. Bjerg is respected by every player and has amazing work ethic. Has no doubts he will become a good coach but is unsure how he will start out.
Markz: Likes that PoE was the one to take over Bjerg's position. A large portion of the success FlyQuest had was because of PoE.

DURING DRAFT

Doublelift:
  • TSM's bot lane is playing really well from when he has played against them. They're shaping up really well and seem to be in good condition.
  • Leona/Maokai are really contested. Maokai counters Leona. Kaisa is first pickable. Kaisa is really strong right now.
  • Surprised FBI isn't getting fp Kaisa. FBI scared?
  • Best Jungle champs are the ones that have strong presence pre-10
  • Doesn't understand the Taliyah 1st pick. Taliyah isn't that strong.
  • PoE is the guy that will TP back to lane for 6 creeps (according to Bjerg). Very greedy and cares a lot about farming but it helps him carry the game. TF into PoE is very risky because if you don't do something with your TF ult play, PoE is going to punish you hard.
  • Graves/Ori is a pretty bad mid 2v2, especially compared to Taliyah/Twisted Fate. There isn't counterplay to the Tf gold card + Taliyah one shot.
  • Xayah pick is kinda iffy but it makes sense. Xayah scales pretty well against TF. Ulti counters gold card. Xayah is really weak early though. Not a big fan of the pick.
  • Gnar pick seems "fucking useless" but we'll see.
  • Apparently Gnar was spammed in China.. again we'll see.
  • Overall TSM has a lot of scaling, it's up to Swordart and Ming(Spica) to create pressure. Not a lot of CC in the comp. Not much consistency in the comp other than Leona and her cc. Swordart has to set up everything from the looks of things. Any even numbered fight seems to be a disadvantage for TSM until late.
  • Kind of a greedy comp for TSM and it doesn't look too meta. 100T comp looks like it can take early objectives better. Leaning towards 100T's draft more. Scared for TSM.
  • Taliyah pick makes more sense now with all the setup they built for her.
  • Spica is a soloq fiend. He has good killer instinct and has really good mechanics. Graves isn't as strong in competitive as it is in solo queue. Says Spica is similar to him in thinking that a champ is either good or useless.
Tim Sevenhuysen:
  • It's super fascinating that TSM kept Spica to build around since TSM Junglers were always wards for Mid lol. Oh, except for in 2020 Summer when TSM frequently played for Bjergsen to back up Spica who was pressuring top to enable Broken Blade and top/jungle carry duos.
SNG Nelson:
  • Let me guess, Swordart and Spica will appear top side the moment 100T wants to execute a dive on Gnar
Gilius:
  • 100T wins that game easy
    • Dunc: ????????????? bro?
    • Sry dunc Draft looks tough
MaxOlivo:
  • sees bjergsen not in champ select as mid i am sad again

DURING GAME

Doublelift:
  • Damonte is getting completely shit on in trades so far (2:50)
  • Surprised 100 didn't protect their blue side jungle before Spica took blue.
  • Ming(Spica) was too greedy with going for gromp, PoE shouldn't have used flash when he tped in. He would probably live. Ming probably feels like he needs to really catch up from Closer's early invade.
  • Xayah is a shit champ, doesn't do anything early.
  • Every lane seems hard... Soren.. I know you're watching why did you draft like this (8:00)
  • Another reason Xayah is a terrible champ, she's bad at punishing the other adc when ahead.
  • Huni just ran it down (10)
  • TSM should've immediately countered Huni's death by diving bot.
  • PoE could've been way more aggressive on the chase, was pretty sure Ssumday was dead. (~10:30)
  • This game is really stressful since TSM seems really fucked (~12:40) PoE needs to hit a 5 man ult or something. Their champs are so bad.
    • It's like the first rule of league, you shouldn't draft 3 losing/out-pressured lanes. A 4 item requirement win con is not a good win con.
  • Wants Swordart to be more proactive and look for champs while they're rotating between lanes. Isn't a fan of the exhaust on Leona over Ignite.
  • Kind of depressing watching Huni running it down (17).
    • After the replay it wasn't as bad at he thought, Closer's Taliyah is nasty.
  • Only person that does damage at this point is PoE (19)
  • Leona blind pick is kind of shit. Should've picked Kaisa, she is really broken.
  • Closer's W's are too clean. Also Huni just tped in to give them a free target to blow up.(21)
  • FBI/Huhi are playing really well.
  • TSM need to fight right now or they will lose (23) 100 got massive value from Baron with Taliyah's wall.
  • Game is over after being triple inhibed.
  • [Game Ends] Kaisa is just too broken.

Observations of a Formula One convert

For background, I'm a massive Formula One fan, and I got into watching NASCAR this season. I used to occasionally catch races, and I've been a Chase Elliott fan since the start. But this season was the first season I've watched start-to-finish, and here are my observations
- Some of the races are way too damn long - Now, this is obviously a heavily biased opinion coming from watching relatively short sprint-style Formula One Grands Prix, but having every single race wastes 3-4 hours of my weekend is extreme, especially when there are 36 races across the season. I would prefer to have most races cut down to an Xfinity-series length. But I also understand the benefits behind a longer race distance, so each to their own.
- The Playoffs are really fun and interesting - I've watched many videos on why the Playoffs system is ridiculous, and I fully understand how it can produce champions that are undeserving, like Logano in 2018, and as much as it pains me to say, Chase in 2020. But coming from a series where the championship is more often than not locked up with 3-4 races to go, the Playoffs are really fun, especially when most other racing series employ some form of F1-style points. Again, this is a double-edged sword as the other series employ F1-style points for a reason, but a guaranteed title deciding race and the edge-of-your-seat cutoff races like Martinsville are incredibly entertaining.
- I'm much easier to please than most traditional NASCAR fans. Case in point: the Kansas playoff race - the NASCAR race and post-race thread was positively toxic in regards to the aero package, as many thought the racing was dull. I was on the edge of my damn seat, and I thought watching Joey and Kevin play a chess game of dirty-air and line choice was incredible. Of course, Formula One races rarely have a battle for the lead get even this close, so reading through the race threads I was shocked that people were this unhappy. The Darlington race, where Chase got taken out by Truex, was another race I was thrilled by that most fans thought was below average, as was the Championship race. TLDR; Because of how dull most Formula One races are, I am really easy to please and the races y'all see as really boring are dull are pretty good to me.
- Mike Joy and Jeff Gordon are phenomenal - The Crofty and Brundle team that calls F1 races are good, don't get me wrong, but Joy and Gordon are far better. Mike Joy is one of the best play-by-play motorsport commentators in the industry, and Jeff Gordon is much better as a coloexpert commentator than Brundle. Having one of the greatest of all time in the booth is also a wonderful thing, I think we should enjoy it while he's still here. As a matter of fact, my dream booth would be - Mike Joy, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson.
- The ads are fucking insane - I watch ESPN's broadcast of Sky F1, and thank's to Mother's sponsorship we have no advertising during the race. NASCAR's in-race advertising is fucking awful, and I feel like it cuts away to either "NASCAR Non-Stop" or fucking straight-up ad breaks. I have started watching Twitch streams that have constant-coverage simply to avoid the goddamn advertising
- Speaking of advertising, NASCAR's marketing is atrocious - All the NASCAR ads I ever seen have been seen during a damn race, and the advertising is very generic - musical montages of superspeedway crashes and pack racing. We need a concentrated ad campaign like "Engineered Insanity" to be broadcast on other channels, to get a new generation of fans.
- NASCAR's merch needs a real overhaul - F1 merch and teamwear is very good, and although it does make you look a touch like a walking billboard, but it's well designd, and I own a few jackets and t-shirt and such. (A 2020 Red Bull Racing windbreaker, a 2018 Ferrari softshell, and a 2019 McLaren anthracite softshell). NASCAR's merch, on the other hand, is garish, ugly, and over-the-top. Hendrick Motorsports does a great job with this, as they make great teamwear-esque tees and other clothing.
- Radioactive is epic - Radioactive is a must-watch for NASCAR, and their phenomenally edited montages of the race, commentary, scanner audio, and music is very good. The Radioactive for the championship race sent chills down my spine, and I have gone back and watched through as many Radioactive videos as I could find.
- NASCAR is actually unpredictable - I know many of you will complain and say NASCAR is dominated by a few teams or is predictable, but to me, it is not. Week in and week out, the 4, 11, 22, 2, 9, and to a lesser degree the 88, 19, 12, 1, etc. are all in contention or racing around the pointy end of the field, which is refreshing from the HAM-BOT-VER onslaught of Formula One
- Referring to cars by the number is really nice - Instead of saying "Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick go side by side for the lead", saying "The 9 and the 4 battle for the lead" was strange for me at first, but now I actually like it.
- Stage racing is ridiculous - Although I don't mind, and even enjoy, the Playoffs, stage racing is really too much. I understand that there was false debris cautions, which must have been just as gimmicky and annoying, but stage racing takes away a lot of the tension of hoping for a caution to bunch the field up. Watching Formula One, when the safety car is deployed and Hamilton and Verstappen are bunched up, there is the anticipation and unpredictability of hoping for one to come out. In NASCAR, when stages have predetermined lengths, and we know when the cautions are going to come out, a lot of that tension goes away. I also love the strategic aspect of racing, and the last-minute calls of whether to come down pit road or not, and again stage racing takes away a lot of that.
- NASCAR is really satisfying to watch - This is going to be a bit of a strange one, but watching the cars with the current low-horsepower, high downforce package go around intermediates is really satisfying, as they can find and stick to a perfect arc and lane.
- NASCAR is far superior to formula1 - we get actual discussion on this sub, rather than straight-up karma whoring 24/7 and constant toxicity and hate.

PlayEDH is bad for EDH and Magic right now. Here's why.

PlayEDH is BAD for EDH and Magic - the metagame, the social factors, the legal concerns
I have been sitting on these thoughts for a little while, but the excellent post yesterday from D4RKN3SSR3IGNS made it clear that now might be the right moment to attempt again to share them with the community. Before I dive into my points, I want to share a little about myself and my methodology.
In day-to-day life, when I get out of bed and put on my suit and tie, I am a community organizer. (Of course these days I just put on a nice shirt and tie and my favorite sweatpants!) I have spent the past twenty years working mostly with not for profit organizations although I have taken quite a few corporate jobs - often in the fitness sector - over that time as well. I work regularly with our fine upstanding friends in the legal profession and have a not inconsiderable amount of training in that area myself.
The experiences and data-gathering that contribute to these thoughts arise from about 14 weeks of time spent active on the PlayEDH server as well as discussions with other community members under the proviso that I not identify them if/when I brought these issues forward in any medium. I also discussed aspects of PlayEDH with quite a few of my aforementioned lawyer friends including a plaintiff's attorney who is also a law school professor, a few corporate litigators, and a retired state judge.
Originally I had assembled a number of these thoughts separately and attempted to deliver them to PlayEDH mods (who roundly dismissed them, more on that later), to Wizard's legal counsel (who did not respond to my efforts in any way), to community content creators (none of whom took interest or acted on what I brought to them), and to members of the media (gaming media was not interested at all as it was "too niche" and business media were only interested if there was a lawsuit or scandal that would potentially impact Hasbro stock price to report).
For the final 6 weeks of the 14 weeks I was active on PlayEDH, I recycled through a number of disposable discord accounts and on one occasion played through a female proxy in order to make sure what I was seeing was not an experience somehow specific to my original discord username.
HOW PLAYEDH IS BAD FOR THE EDH METAGAME
This is the simplest point. Right now, as it stands, there is an extremely limited and correspondingly overworked staff of volunteer mentors performing deck checks. They are checking decks against a set of power levels which are subjectively defined and do not seem to be updated quickly as new cards are released and impact the metagame. D4RKN3SSR3IGNS experience is a perfect example of the pitfalls of this setup, so I won't harp further on that aspect of the problem.
Significantly, there would appear to be a private index of cards that the mentors refer to and identify as problem cards in order to disqualify decks from particular power levels. Given the overloaded nature of the mentor staff, it means they are not able to take the time to examine decks more fully to see how those cards interact within the deck.
Additionally, given the lack of time these volunteers can spend on each deck they check, their feedback tends to default to a few phrases which are either unhelpful and vague are point the player in the direction of the same small grouping of cards in order to redress the alleged wrongs in a particular presented decklist. Over the short term this is meaningless, but over the longer term this will slowly cause homogeneity to creep into the player population as they discover that the best way to get approved for a particular power level is to always make sure they have the same 15-22 cards in their list as a quick glance from a mentor will miss other things when they see primarily the cards they expect for that power level.
HOW PLAYEDH IS BAD SOCIALLY
In the course of my 3.5 months of exposure and the contributed experiences of almost three dozen other players who all had varying amounts of time as members of the community, I was struck by how toxic behaviors - sometimes even from the same player - would appear out of nowhere and be multiplied by the composition of a particular game. The behaviors I observed or were anecdotally relayed to me included the following negative trends:
-proxy-shaming -racist/xenophobic language -transphobic behavior -casual misogyny -outright patronizing treatment of women/non-binary players -willful ignorance of community rules (such as they are) -poor play etiquette
The community rules/guidelines for PlayEDH are also one of the poorest pieces of guiding language I have encountered in at least the past decade. The few places where they do present hard absolutes are corrupted by the many places where they make things subject to moderator interpretation/subjectivity bias. The warning system is selective, which any lawyer will tell you is the functional equivalent of not even having a warning system. There appears to be no effort by the moderation staff to track when reports are made of toxic behavior that they elect not to issue a warning for. There is absolutely no appeals process on bans regardless of the reason for said ban. (Concerningly, a number of moderators are shared between the EDH and PlayEDH subreddits, which removes the possibility to appeal to the community at large and feel as if you might be heard!) Basic standards of play etiquette are not observed and if reported said reports are ignored. The guidelines state that deck checks are optional, yet when you complain about decks which violate the few absolutes in those guidelines like D4RKN3SSR3IGNS did, the moderator frequently points back at your own deck or play-choices as an excuse even when a deck violated the guidelines (like an infinite combo in an unchecked BC deck).
As a final note regarding that - a deck which is in violation of a power level is still a deck which is in violation of a power level, regardless of whether or not your personal deck you were playing had what the moderators and mentors deem to be "sufficient interaction". I've seen decks that are chock full of creatures with instant-speed interaction abilities be denied for mid because they "lack interaction". It is ridiculous to tell someone with an otherwise valid complaint that their complaint is invalidated on that grounds.
During my 6 weeks experimenting with other play behaviors and identities I discovered two things: 1- If I created the account and joined on a Monday evening, and then discarded the account on Thursday night, I could play for 3 days with absolutely no consequences for anything. If players complained about my deck to me, I explained I was new to the community and when I joined deck check submissions were closed. I was never contacted by moderation for this, if I was even reported at all. Admittedly that is a VERY minor offense (if at all!), but it doesn’t speak well to the overall atmosphere of the community. 2- Interacting with the moderation staff is a painful experience. They were frequently dismissive or outright rude regardless of the nature of the complaint or report I was bringing up; they often elected to interact solely through the server’s Modmail bot rather than identify what moderator was being interacted with; some reports went entirely unaddressed, with nothing beyond a “this issue has been closed” response from the Modmail bot with no other feedback. I was victim shamed on multiple occasions by moderation staff – I will specifically cite the following: being told that my deck was the problem as opposed to an opponent’s deck; being told that placing preferred identifying pronouns in my Spelltable displayed name was inviting commentary from other players; being told that racist statements made by another player were “not racist, that’s just slang” (paraphrased slightly).
Three players in my reporting group also relayed to me the specifics of harassment that had followed them beyond interactions in PlayEDH games. All three were using the same Discord usernames as accounts on other platforms. One of them had a player harass her on her Instagram account – I will not relate the specifics of said harassment. One of them had a player use their Twitter account to find their LinkedIn account and proceeded to send troubling messages to their coworkers. The third one was subjected to a barrage of reports on their Twitch account - which they do not and had not played Spelltable/EDH on. All of these situations are problematic in their own way and the fact that out of a reporting group of 34 (35 including myself) that ~8.5% of the group had this occur is simply unacceptable.
Healthy communities do and have the following: -Clear, concise, well-written guidelines and rules which remove subjective interpretation and bias from moderation judgements -Moderators and administrators who are provided with some form of training in order to de-escalate problem situations and convert problem users into well-behaved and contributing community members -Ban mechanisms in place which provide a path to reinstatement which varies based on the nature of offenses
Healthy communities do not have the following: -An implicit state of omerta where victims of toxic behaviors are consciously and subconsciously made to believe that their experience is not equal and they are the problem
HOW PLAYEDH IS BAD LEGALLY
This rivals the metagame implications in simplicity. As things currently stand, Wizards (a division of Hasbro, a publicly traded corporation!) purchased Spelltable earlier this year. Spelltable currently has a find a game button which is nothing more than a link to the PlayEDH discord server. As observed above, PlayEDH’s current community rules are inadequate. Several of the lawyers I showed them to were incredulous. One of them outlined how he could present a civil case where something that had occurred – like a real-life stalking or assault of a player identified via their Discord username by someone they interacted with on the PlayEDH server – and as a result of the Hasbro-Wizards-Spelltable-PlayEDH chain put the corporate parents of Spelltable on the hook for damages. Right now, Spelltable is far and away the best tool we have to play EDH remotely. Wizards has already extracted the tech and the architect of Spelltable for their own use and application due to the acquisition of the Spelltable platform. If Wizards’ legal counsel was paying attention (and he ignored my email to ask about the find a game button directing to an adhoc unincorporated community outside of Wizards’ direct control, so I don’t think he is paying attention) then here’s some of what could happen: -The Find a Game button would be removed or directed to a Wizards controlled forum. -The PlayEDH community would be incorporated by Wizards – they would replace all existing volunteer staff with the existing moderation and community management staff they already have on payroll. -The Spelltable platform would be re-launched in a different format, with a new terms of service.
If Wizards’ bizdev team is on point (which I suspect they are), they are already setting up to relaunch Spelltable as a partially or fully subscription-based service anyway.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
Obviously, we do not control the decisions of Wizards’ legal or bizdev teams, so the final points I raised are immaterial. If they happen, they happen.
Here is what PlayEDH should do going forward: 1- Incorporate as a not-for-profit, with properly drafted bylaws and a mixture of appointed and elected board members. The community rules and guidelines should at that point be drafted by a member of the bar in good standing and in such a way that they protect both the organization and the individual players, and are legally sound. 2- Replace and/or revamp the existing moderation staff. A community with tens of thousands of members and hundreds or thousands of members active at any given time needs a larger moderation staff with training and checks and balances. 3- Approach Wizards and get a formal agreement in place. This will do several things – most importantly, it will protect the existence of PlayEDH by indemnifying Wizards and assuring some span of access to Spelltable for PlayEDH members. Wizards should have a seat on the PlayEDH board anyway.
As for my own part, I’ve retreated from the PlayEDH community. I still play on Spelltable, but I’m only playing with people I already know. The current issues with PlayEDH just make it an uncomfortable experience for me, so I’ll stay away and if they are addressed will be the first in line to return. But this is the internet in 2020, so I am not hopeful on that count.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you have a nice day.

Getting started with casting OW - tips/things I wish I'd known sooner

Hey all - I'm writing this as an amateur PBP/colour caster who's now fortunate to have had a few tournaments/leagues under my belt in the past few months. So far, I've had the opportunity to cast a few matches of the Toronto Overwatch Beer League, a full season of the Ontario eSports League, a night of streamed Community PUGs for Revival, as well as two charity tournaments (Overwatch Against Cancer in Aug 2020 and Overwatch for Charity just last week) in the past little while. I've primarily been a colour caster for these (though I do dabble in PBP) and while I'm miles away from being Uber or Wolf or what have you I've definitely been able to learn a few lessons along the way and improve over time!
I periodically see folks on the sub posting about wanting to get started with casting, so I figured I'd put together a list of things and approaches that I wish I'd known a bit sooner in my brief casting career so far. Again, I'm no professional so your mileage may vary, but my hope is that other amateur casters might find this somewhat useful. I also just feel like infodumping about casting with a >1000 word essay so there's that, lol.
Here's a clip of me doing PBP, and another of a colour cast from the same map in the last charity tourney, for reference.

Solo casting or two casters?

To begin with, I'm going to assume you'll be taking part in a traditional two-caster setup. Although solo casting does sound fun in principle and means you don't have to worry about playing off another person and 'spacing' your casts to make sure you don't talk over them, it can very quickly exhaust you, not to mention just hearing one voice is also generally a bit less enjoyable for audiences over longer periods of time. Plus, there will come a point where your brain combusts mid game, especially if you're doing three matches in one night, and you'll need your other caster to pick up the slack - not to mention having another caster means you can make conversation to stall for time if needed and also set up one another for topics (more below). If you can, find a second person to cast with you as soon as possible, since learning how to time your own thoughts while letting them speak as well is a key skill to pick up early.

Play-by-play or colour?

I'll start off by saying that with more experience, it becomes easier to do either of these, and while I started as a colour caster I've since been able to do more play by play over time and quite enjoy it. So you're not stuck in whatever you pick forever! That said, I would definitely try to pick one and stick with it at first until you're more comfortable with everything else that comes with casting.
It's worth more formally stating my understanding of the two roles' responsibilities to better understand which might fit your style better.
The PBP's job is:
The colour caster's job is:
Obviously, these roles are a bit amorphous - it's entirely possible for the PBP to comment on ult economy, or how calculated Team A's Ball dive has been, or for the colour caster's analysis to end with a few elimination calls since the next fight has already started. Generally, however, it's a good idea to keep these core responsibilities in mind.

Play-by-play: things I wish I'd known

I should start by saying that in amateur settings, the PBP is usually also the person operating the stream. This means that the PBP should have a good understanding of the spec controls and how to switch between players while also controlling 3rd person angles if necessary. Spec'ing is a totally different topic for a totally different post, but I thought I'd mention that because some of these points tie in to that context.
Here are some tips:
  1. Avoid staying on one player for too long. (Insert OWL S1 storyline meme here). That refers to casting as well as spectating - narrating just one player's contribution to the fight for too long can quickly get tiresome, even if you're anticipating that say, the Genji is about to blade, and you're narrating their neutral positioning. Try to mix things up instead of staying on one person in anticipation of a big play, and instead comment on say, the frontline trades or whatnot until things snowball from there; when a player pops off, they pop off, and you're able to transition to talking about them.
  2. You don't have to catch and reference every single kill in the killfeed. It's very easy to slow down and miss ongoing action because you see more kills popping up in the killfeed and feel like they should be mentioned out loud. However, it's just as valid to say more general terms like 'and the killfeed is all blue as Team A...' or 'trades on both sides in this scrappy fight, as [player] gets nanoed amidst the chaos...'. Have a few of these phrases in your pocket because they'll definitely save you when fights get dicey.
  3. A few points re: setting up your colour caster. First, a quick way to signal that you're done PBPing the fight (even if there are a few cleanup kills) is by saying their name at the end of your call (e.g. and with the Rein hammer of [player] taking out [other player], I think that's it for Team B, [colour caster name]'). This tells your colour caster to step in right there. Also, you can just ask them - 'what's working for team A here?' 'why does team B keep getting away with letting their Hog flank?'. These general questions are crucial to help your colour caster find things to say, which can be especially hard in one-sided matches.
  4. Remember that it's your job to bring attention back to the fight if the colour caster goes on too long. Many of us colour caster types could talk about OW microplays for days, so it's the PBP's job to cut in if needed if the next fight is already well underway and the colour caster is a bit slow on the uptake. It's not very glamourous but sometimes it needs to be done.
  5. Between maps/rounds, let the colour caster do most of the talking and drive the topics, and set them up for more analysis if needed; this is their time to shine.

Colour casting: things I wish I'd known

In amateur settings, the colour caster is usually just another spectator in the lobby, and isn't necessarily seeing the same thing the PBP/stream is. Use this to your advantage as a colour caster - stay in 3rd person view and give yourself a permanent bird's eye view of the fight. This lets you see positioning, pathing, ult usage, and more, all of which you need to know and should comment on. It also means you might catch off-to-the-side plays the PBP misses that you can draw attention to after the fight ('also in that last fight, a huge play from the Tracer to distract the Ana off in the back, meaning that the frontline had less heals...'). Generally, you almost never need to be in first person: yes, it means you miss seeing the bonkers Widow headshots that one player is landing, but such is the cost of doing analysis on cast.
(Disclaimer: the only time the colour cast benefits from first person is in calling techs, like Genjis cancelling deflects by wall climbing before that was a cancelable ability, but it's still not worth losing potential macro-analysis for this imo)
Other tips:
  1. As the colour caster, your responsibilities are constantly shifting: for example, on the start of a 2CP map, commenting on defensive positioning alongside the comps is important, whereas the start of a control map entails much more talking about the composition matchup. Keep in mind the map type can affect what the key things to highlight are and shift what you're highlighting accordingly.
  2. Three words: remember the objective. Always, always, always remember the objective, and tie that in to your contributions when possible. This is super easy to forget and it makes for a worse experience as a caster and audience without it. There is always a timebank or capture point ticker that affects the stakes of a coming fight, and should almost always be made reference to in your analysis. Reminding the audience that Team B overulted is one thing, but adding that they overulted in the fight before last fight on Hanamura second but still only walked away with a single tick now clearly means that Team B is in a truly rough spot. This ties into the point about narrative - in this Hanamura example, the audience now knows that the deck is stacked in favour of Team A, and sets their expectations accordingly.
  3. It's very easy to get hyped up about plays while your PBP is going off, and these can often add to casts: Wolf does a good job of this with his exclamations under Achilios's PBP ('HACK ON TRANCE, JJONAK IS HACKED'), and the famous Pine highlight on Route 66 vs Fuel is so much better just because Monte shrieks 'OH MY GOD' in the back. BUT - be careful not to fully interrupt your PBP and/or throw them off their groove. A good way to do this is to hype up something after they've made reference to it ('red Rein hits a huge shatter!' followed by you going 'it's massive!'). It's possible to do this to draw attention to a play the PBP missed, but it'll take time to learn the right timings for this, since it's PBP dependent and they may totally lose their train of thought if something new is said by you. Remember the enabling goes both ways.
  4. Let your focus drift away from the fight itself sometimes. Hear me out here: I used to focus too hard on the fight at times and then not have that much to say between fights cause I'd have to actively think about analysis before saying anything. It's fine to let your PBP do their thing while you just quietly squint at positioning and ult percentages so that you can immediately launch into analyzing those things when the time comes. I'm not saying ignore the fight entirely, but you're allowed to let your brain process other things for a bit, so that you can mentally prep what you want to highlight.
  5. As a general tip - this applies to PBP too - give props! In amateur tournaments, people are really excited to have their popoffs streamed and casted, so try to hype up players when they do well. Try to do this more than criticize if possible - it's possible to say 'red Rein is really doing an excellent job in this Rein mirror' instead of 'blue Rein is getting walloped in this Rein mirror'. They both mean the same thing, but blue Rein watching back the stream probably won't feel as shitty about it.
If you made it this far, I hope this was helpful - I have plenty more to share, but I figured this got long enough as is. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer best as my amateur self can, but more importantly if you have other tips as well I'd love to hear them in the comments!
Edit: thank you for the awards, much appreciated!

Ye Olde List of Improvements Riot Could Make To Maximize Enjoyment Of Each and Every Champion PART I

For years I've been thinking about all the things in League that feel outdated so I went ahead and made a list of all the ways I felt older champions could be improved to bring them up to the standard Riot has for newer champions. The ways I will suggest improvement could be a full on VGU like how Akali and Mord were updated, a mini-VGU like what Ezreal/Morgana got a while back that doesn't change the whole kit but maybe one or two dated abilities as well as the character model and VFX, a simple kit rework like what Anivia recently received, or minor tweaks like updating in-game models and bringing old skins skins up to par (looking at you Magnificent Twisted Fate). Note: This is less about balance and more about looking good and feeling good to play! Also there’s no way Riot will ever get around to everything on this list. Here we go!

Aatrox

No suggestion.

Ahri

The recent VFX update she received brought her pretty close to where she could be but a really old character animations limit how good her non-legendary skins could look. Update the model/animations and she’s good.

Akali

Not even going to try to make suggestions about her kit and visually she’s up to date.

Alistar

Alistar still feels like a solid support pick despite having one of the oldest kits in the game. Giving his skins some love could make him feel refreshing while staying a good remnant of early League.

Amumu

Amumu is like Dr. Mundo in that he’s a goofier feeling champion in the more serious evolving world of LoL. If you like that about him, you might say he doesn’t need any changes visually. He received a solid VFX update last year that just leaves his character model in question. I’d say make him less of an R on a stick and leave it up to his playerbase whether Riot should update his character model.

Anivia

Received a nice VFX update that gave her old skins some love and received a kit rework that really brought her up to par with newer champions. I’d say the only thing holding her back is a character model that moves in some janky ways.

Annie

Annie received the treatment I’ll suggest for many champions in that she received a VFX update that made her old not-so-legendary skins true legendaries and even went so far as to give her many skins <1350 unique VFX. The only reason I’d suggest a model update is because I see what she has in Wild Rift and want that for her on PC.

Aphelios

No suggestion.

Ashe

Her base model looks pretty good but moves in a very stiff way when considering she’s supposed to be a nimble archer. Make her move more dynamically.

Aurelion Sol

I’ve seen a lot of sentiment that players (especially mains) liked Asol much more as a control mage that valued positioning and consistent damage with his old W rather than his burstier playstyle now. It’s clear Riot failed in trying to expand his playerbase with the W changes. Revert W and address other parts of his kit that might be limiting interest in him.

Azir

I don’t pretend that I’m good enough to understand the limits of this champ but it’s clear that how he exists now is that only the most skilled players can utilize his kit well. I think many players like this about Azir but I also hear from some players that they’re tired of him being balanced around pro-play. I’m not sure how to please both groups but I’m sure there’s some way to open him up to players lower than Diamond and have him feel okay in high elo solo-queue while not tearing up pro-play.

Bard

No suggestion.

Blitzcrank

I think Blitz holds up insanely well for how old he is. Riot has kept him up to date with VFX changes and minor kit tweaks. Even his model looks fine in the modern game, although the Wild Rift model indicates it could be slightly improved.

Brand

Similar to Ashe, Brand’s character model feels very stiff and it limits how good his skins could look. Riot made some decent changes to his kit last year that made it feel better and increased his winrate in mid but failed to increase playrate there. I like to play him mid but he feels a bit outclassed when his only CC is a conditional, skill-shot stun and his W can easily be dodged with all the mobility in mid lane. There’s a bit of a catch-22 where the combo conditions in his kit are what makes him unique but also they also hold him back from matching up to modern mid laners.

Braum

No suggestion.

Caitlyn

Another example of old champ model stiffness. I’ve seen some desire among players to improve her base model look as well. Also another case of hoping to get VFX on skins that are <1350.

Camille

No suggestion.

Cassiopeia

I can only hope to someday get the full High Noon treatment on Desperada Cass. Hopefully mana changes make her feel a bit better to play. She holds up really well overall though.

Cho’Gath

I’ve seen some desire on Reddit to give Cho’Gath a VGU that would change him into a truly terrifying void beast. His character in League feels like it’s trying to be that but then his 12 story tall character model sways up to you and then yells really loud. Keep his size gaining gimmick and make him evolve visually as he gains size in the same way that Kayle’s character model changes. There’s a lot of potential with his character and it seems wasted his kit. Gentleman Cho unique animations and VFX too.

Corki

To me, the only possible reason Corki hasn’t received a full VGU is that nobody cares about him. He looks and feels so out of place in modern League. There are definitely interesting parts of his kit. The conversion of AA damage to magic is really cool and his ult is a bit unique in how it synergizes with spellblade items. The Package seems to take up a lot of his power budget that could be used to make the rest of his kit more fleshed out. His Q, E, and R are decent abilities but the visuals and sound don’t match their impact and make them fun to use. How exactly to rework an old Yordle flying a helicopter made of junk into a “modern” feeling champion without losing his character completely is beyond me although I hope Riot gives Corki some love soon.

Darius

No suggestion.

Diana

I know there are some people who weren’t happy with her mini-rework but it did a lot to increase her viability and popularity. No suggestions for her.

Dr. Mundo

Already being reworked. I love how it seems to be coming, Mundo still feels goofy but is a lot more expressive. His old skins without VFX are also getting some love. So far, this seems like a rework that will be the benchmark for reworking goofy champs like Corki or Amumu.

Draven

No suggestion.

Ekko

No suggestion.

Elise

I might argue for some character animation improvements but I think she’s holding up pretty well.

Evelynn

No suggestion.

Ezreal

A rare example of a mid level rework that I think would be great for some champs like Twisted Fate.

Fiddlesticks

This is what I want for Cho’Gath. Fiddle looked silly and had an outdated kit and his rework made him terrifying and people enjoy playing him so much more.

Fiora

No suggestion.

Fizz

No suggestion.

Galio

No suggestion.

Gangplank

Gangplank is definitely intended to be a 5head champion that takes a lot of time and skill to master. I don’t think he’ll ever have a great winrate below Diamond nor should he but it can be frustrating for solo queue to have nerfs show up everytime a pro Gangplank meta comes around.

Garen

Lots of <1350 skins with no unique VFX while Annie got unique VFX on her skins regardless of price point. In Annie’s case it was a Riot VFX artist’s passion project so unless there’s someone who loves Garen over there, I doubt Riot will bother touching those skins.

Gnar

No suggestion.

Gragas

Really all Gragas needs is to have his character model/animations match Wild Rift. Lots of potential creativity with VFX on old Gragas skins too.

Graves

Same as Garen.

Hecarim

No suggestion.

Heimerdinger

After typing it out for so many champs, I’m being reminded of how many skins there are without new VFX. It would take a lot of time without much monetary return for Riot to implement VFX on weird, niche skins like Blast Zone Heimer. Reminding myself and those still reading that list is idealistic and not at all what I expect Riot to actually implement. Alien Invader Heimer definitely still needs to be made appropriate for its legendary status.

Illaoi

Weird example of a champion that has never been terrible and sometimes is even great but whose playrate has always been low. I think it’s fine for some champs like Illoai to be more niche especially since her kit and visuals feel modern. Small QoL changes could help her popularity.

Irelia

No suggestion.

Ivern

Was recently changed in a way that clearly helped his winrate and playrate. No suggestion.

Janna

Janna feels a bit stiff just like Ashe and Cait and probably needs a whole new character model to fix those issues. Notably her hair looks and moves like it’s all one connected mass and nothing at all like hair blowing in the wind. Otherwise, she’s in good shape.

Jarvan IV

One of the worst offenders of the stiff animations club and it’s very apparent on skins like Pool Party that otherwise look great. Also, give this guy a decent W ability please. It has to be in the top 5 most useless abilities in the game.

Jax

Riot gave him a much needed VFX update recently but the mix of 2020 VFX and a 2009 character model feels strange. Wild Rift already did a pretty good job fixing this.

Jayce

Jayce holds up well but why does his melee AA animation look so jerky and awkward? Fix that and he’s fine.

Jhin

No suggestion.

Jinx

No suggestion.

Kaisa

No suggestion.

Kalista

What were they thinking with this ability? It’s so easy for enemies to just walk around it. Make it faster, increase the sight range, make it unkillable, or just change it completely.

Karma

No suggestion.

Karthus

Why is the wind up so damn long? It’s miserable trying to CS with his AA’s. Players have shown concern over his shift toward jungle and away from mid and I can’t help but think his non-jungling viability would be helped a ton if they gave him an AA that you could actually hit instead of having to Q everything.

Kassadin

I love the idea of Kass on paper. Having to manage mana while deciding whether to use R for damage, wave clear, or mobility. He has potential nuance but it all goes down the drain when his gameplan involves hitting level 16 and that’s it. He’s supposedly an “anti-mage” champion but people rarely play him to simply counter mages, they play him to get pentakills in the late game. There have been multiple periods of Kassadin dominance where games become “ban Kass or end game ASAP.” This isn’t fun for Kass players or the players on the other team. Deliver on the nuances his kit promises and make clear whether his role is as a counter pick to mages or to be a late game monster and have his kit reflect that. Also Pre-Void Kassadin is the ugliest skin in the game.

Katarina

I know I’ve been flirting pretty heavily with the balance side of things for a list that’s intended to address visuals and gameplay enjoyment. I won’t comment on Kat too much other than that she has a very dedicated playerbase and that she’s controversial among non-Kat players. Finding a way to reduce how much people hate playing against her while keeping mains happy seems difficult. Aside from that, her model animations are pretty stiff.

Kayle

No suggestion.

Kayn

No suggestion.

Kennen

Kennen’s in-game model is underwhelming when you look at his splash. Update his character model and fix his rigid animations, ideally to match the kind of dynamic animation his ninja counterpart, Akali, shows is possible.

Kha’Zix

No suggestion.

Kindred

Kindred has steadily risen in popularity over the course of her existence and seems to be in a good place now but players still complain that her lore and promised “two champs in one” fantasy was not delivered on. It doesn’t seem like Riot has plans to fix those issues but if it ever comes up, they should definitely weigh the wishes of her current playerbase with the potential for her character if Wolf had a more active role.

Kled

No suggestion.

Kog’maw

Where to start. Maybe don’t give an ADC a passive that requires dying. Kog also relies way too heavily on having a Lulu whose kit seems to be specifically crafted to be much better with Twitch and Kog than other ADC’s but that’s probably more of a Lulu issue. His linear, hyper-carry kit can lead to uninteresting and unfun gameplay dynamics like “protect the Kog’maw” pro-play strategies. His kit allows for very little skill expressiveness outside of kiting and then late in his build, he attacks so fast with Lethal Tempo that trying to kite just reduces how quick he can attack so he usually just stands in one place and tries to kill enemies before they can reach him. He has a “tank-shredder” identity where supposedly he’s a stopgap for another dreaded tank meta but I’m not sure how true that is or how healthy for the game that kind of rock-paper-scissors relationship would be. I think Kog’maw has a lot of issues that Riot should take a look at and the first one is deleting Monarch Kog’maw from the game.

LeBlanc

Her model’s animations on all of her abilities look pretty awkward. A touch up would really help bring out more of her character.

Lee Sin

There are a ton of these champions who were made way before Riot had the resources to give champions amazingly dynamic and expressive animations. There’s a reason so many people use Muay Thai, God Fist, or Storm Dragon Lee Sin. Lee Sin’s base animations ruin otherwise great skins like Nightbringer or FPX.

Leona

Leona has some stiff animations on a few of her abilities and the VFX for her E doesn’t match the impact or the hitbox of the ability. Leona feels fine otherwise.

Lillia

No suggestion.

Lissandra

I remember a couple seasons ago, Lissandra was one of the best mid laners and there was plenty of groaning over her waveclear, mobility, and R. Since being nerfed Lissandra has returned to being a champion with low playrate and a subpar to decent winrate. It might be nice for Riot to try again to increase the appeal of the character without going so far as to have another Pick/Ban Lissandra meta.

Lucian

Looking at Lucian next to Senna, it’s very apparent which champion is older and I’d say most of that is in how his model moves.

Lulu

As was mentioned earlier, she synergizes too well with Kog and Twitch (and Yi when funneling was bigger) to the point where you could be considered trolling picking either ADC without a duo queue Lulu with you. It’s fine to have specific synergies and her identity should always be synergizing with attack speed ADC’s but there’s a limit to that for the sake of her playability with champs like Jhin, Ezreal, or mages in bot lane. Doing something like removing some power on her W and allowing it to also activate on spell casts in the same way they changed Nami’s E is just one example of how they could make her more flexible. Visually, Wild Rift and the recent Yordle cinematic show Lulu as she should be. Right now, she’s terrifying (old Lollipoppy vibes).

Lux

Lux received a great VFX update that only leaves something to be desired in her dated model animations. Update those and Riot can have even more excuses to make 1350 Lux skins.

Malphite

Wild Rift Malphite is rock solid.

Malzahar

There’s almost zero nuance or skill expression in Malzahar’s kit. You could argue he’s meant to be a simple champion for beginners to learn the basics but that fact seems to rely on the fact that new players also don’t know what QSS is. I don’t know how to make him a less linear champion but there are some parts of his kit that could serve as a starting point to making a more interesting champ. E spreading is unique and his spell shield could offer more skill expression as a basic ability like Sivir or Nocturne.

Maokai

No suggestion.

Master Yi

Yi lives next to Teemo as a historically despised champion in League. Yi at his best is oppressive and disheartening to play against. From Taric funnel strats to AP Yi to new Duskblade invisibility, Yi seems to find the most annoying ways possible to escape possible counterplay because if you can reliably lock him down, the Yi player can do very little to outplay. Riot should reanalyze whether Yi brings anything positive to the game in his current state and change him accordingly. He also looks incredibly dated in every possible way.

Miss Fortune

Unlike other champs in this list, I don’t even feel like Wild Rift completely did MF justice. A lot of her animations still feel stiff and there are still heart jpegs on her W. Animation work could do a lot to make her feel as sexy and badass as she is portrayed in cinematics.

Mordekaiser

Please for the love of all that is holy make the particle effect colors consistent on his skins. Why bother giving King of Clubs a gold effect on his passive but then none of his abilities match that? Same with Lord and Dragon Knight.
End of Part I
Looking closer at all the champions made me realize just how inconsistent Riot can be with unique VFX and also, just how many older champions have animations that feel out of place in one of the biggest games in the world. I'm already working on Part II which will contain the rest of the champions. Let me know if there's anything I missed that you think should be added.

The State of r/Tekken: Suggestions/Feedback Megathread

With the clusterfuck that was 2020 soon behind us, I'd like to reflect on the state of the Tekken community globally. We saw our last major offline tournament of the year in February with Only The Best III, after which COVID quickly shut everything down (although Korea and Japan managed to organize some offline tournaments towards the end). Despite the lack of the intimacy of offline tournaments, we still managed to rally together with multiple online tournaments like the Tekken Online Challenges and the ICFC. Season 4 was huge, as the improved netcode brought us closer, allowing us to share a much better Tekken experience. Tekken 7 streamers on Twitch saw huge increases in followers, view counts and subscribers. Tekken itself saw tremendous growth, with more than 3000 new Kings of the Iron Fist joining us to get washed online together in the last 2 months alone.
However, with travel restrictions looking unlikely to be lifted in many parts of the world, it doesn't seem we will be returning to normal very soon. Since we have to rely on the Tekken community to sustain itself, I'd like to ask the members of the Tekken community as to what your thoughts are regarding the state of the subreddit, and what can be done to improve it. Please feel free to suggest anything you'd like, from different types of weekly content, to changes in moderation direction, to subreddit features and events you'd like to have.
As a starting point, some ideas I've been thinking of are -
I'd like to sign off with some words from the S4 trailer,
Keep your head up, 元気を出して, raise your fists.
There's hope in the darkness.
Happy holidays everyone, and stay safe.

StoryFire won't be the end. It was an experiment. I have ideas for Jesse's next website, while having final criticisms StoryFire. StoryFire was nothing more than a learning experience.

Now, I want to say that I am a day one supporter of StoryFire. I have been with it for 4 1/2 years, but I had to drop out after the marketing push because StoryFire's quality of life has severely declined. I have been very critical of StoryFire, and sometimes harshly critical, but that's because I have always supported it and wanted to see it better.
I will actually miss StoryFire. Even though the last year (2020) has made it turn very sour around the time of the marketing push with oversaturated and uninteresting content, it turned into a dumping ground of rejects and washed up YouTubers. I hate to say it, but it's true. More than half of the new users didn't even stick with the platform but to no fault of their own. (I will explain in a moment.) StoryFire before the marketing push was, in my opinion, really good. It wasn't fantastic, it was a borderline 6/10, but it most certainly had the ability to improve and become a better platform.
The story portion of the platform is arguably what I might miss the most. The stories in StoryFire, the feature alone, was what made StoryFire unique and stand out from the rest of the platforms. You have other sites like Parler and Bitchute and all those AltTech sites that don't have a feature like that. Not even YouTube, Vimeo, or Daily Motion had stories on them. In fact, StoryFire once had a non-public feature where you can read a story and then watch a video after it, which is what My Virtual Escape did. I personally BEGGED Jesse for this feature, but it never came to light. The stories on StoryFire were actually decent, and the community around the story feature was humble. Although, I think it was very ironic that the web feature didn't have a dedicated section to actually read them, or browse stories. Why? Because StoryFire was trying to focus on what it wasn't; YouTube. (More on this later.)
Another thing I will miss about StoryFire is the hybrid social feed. It was a mixture of Twitter and Instagram. I noticed recently that they added a 500 character limit, which is actually fantastic. I actually remember bringing this up to Jesse on his Twitch stream (back when he was playing Call of Duty: Warzone) and he said it was actually a brilliant idea, saying "I was onto something." The 500 character limit is double Twitter's character limit, which I personally is a greater advantage. StoryFire's social feed is a better Twitter feed. Actually, no, I take that back. StoryFire's social feed is not only better than Twitter's social feed, but it's arguably much better than Twitter. It's Twitter without the bullshit. (But I must interject that the profile system on StoryFire was complete crap, and I have made a video regarding this subject with a full-fledged concept.) If the profiles on StoryFire were like Twitter or Facebook, with the big banner and organized profile picture and post placements, then I would have had more reason to use StoryFire (customization is everything) and it would have been a lot more attractive.
Freedom of speech is a much-valued right that people want to preserve online. What I really liked about StoryFire is that individuals were really able to say what they wanted. However, this was troublesome for moderators, as I have heard first hand that they did not have any tools and had to talk to Brian in order to ban someone. (More on that later.) Regardless, StoryFire, in my opinion, was really a place where you could say mostly anything that would be "socially unacceptable" on Twitter or Facebook. Like I said earlier, StoryFire was mostly Twitter but without the bullshit drama and political partisanship. (I will touch on that later.) And to mention the 500 character limit, that was also really nice. Regardless, StoryFire was able to get away with "freedom of speech" and "anti-censorship" because it did not cater to the far right or far left. It was for common folk to get on and talk civilly. And even though there was a lot of political speech on there, and I often posted about gun rights and advocacy (because I believe in minimal firearm regulations,) there was no subjection for any ban and all parties were civil because no one threatened anyone or broke the rules. On Twitter or Facebook, that would indicate you as a social bot or get you locked out of your account. So I think that StoryFire really succeeded in the freedom of speech part. And honestly, I do think that StoryFire does deserve praise for that. Jesse always wanted people to have a platform, and he really wanted everything (within reason) to be said.
What I will not miss about StoryFire... A lot of things.
What I will not miss about StoryFire is the videos that were spammed. What really made me leave StoryFire is when videos were spammed. I will point fingers and mean nothing personally. When I saw BowBlax post, not only did he dominate my sub box, but he dominated a lot of other home page elements. There was little to no competition, other than the DramaAlert videos that Daniel Keem would make. I mean no disrespect to anyone I name by hand, but for all of the people who were brought onto the marketing push, I would say that one or two-fifths of the select individuals actually uploaded consistently. Props to them, but there was no competition or original content, so I just could not stay. The only thing that made me stay for my final few months was the story portion and the social feed because the community on there (that were not involved in big organized groups i.e. BlazeClan, Flame Gang, etc) were pretty good. Something I will mention later, StoryFire should have separated amateur content from the professional or verified content. With all of them mixed together with absolutely zero prioritization, it really made the homepage look like a mess and generally uninteresting. Also, a nit-pick, Raka Raka hasn't uploaded in months, why is he on the banner? That should be space for an advertisement so StoryFire can get ad funding. Remember when YouTube used to have an advertisement on its home screen? If StoryFire was trying to go for that YouTube look, it would have taken a step forward and helped itself in the process.
Another thing would be the video applications. For this Reddit post exclusively, I will show you a video application that really impressed Brian himself. Yes, it was mostly done by us and with help from professionals, and Brian did tell me that he loved it himself. Do you want to know why that channel wasn't accepted onto StoryFire? Copyright. That's it. I'll let that slide, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the application system was an atrocious turn-off to many. There needed to be other ways, and there are, for video uploading to be far more accessible. I have seen a lot of applications back in the day when this app was popping off. There were a lot of really bad videos that had no thought, acting, or anything done to them, let alone proper editing. However, I will talk about an alternative to applications later on. But this point is for the application system alone, and just how bad it was. It turned a lot of people away. And to add insult to injury, it used Google forums and not an in-house StoryFire application.
The overall layout. The homepage and design of the StoryFire website was unorganized at best. What I did not like is that StoryFire's homepage was focused a bit too heavily on videos. It did not focus on stories enough on the web, and finding stories on the web was really hard (and the stories themselves were buggy on the web,) and there just needs to be far more organization. This will be touched on later.
StoryFire, and the logo. StoryFire does not catch. It is not a really memorable name, and not a lot of people will take interest in it. StoryFire itself suggests that it focuses strictly on stories, and not videos. Fortunately, I have been brainstorming some ideas... StoryFire should have at least had a minimalistic or 3D-ish logo. But the logo we have does not fit with the times. It makes no sense for a business graphic. It's too big, it's really bulky, and it again does not catch. (Again, more on this later.)
What does Jesse do now?
I feel that Jesse should return to YouTube for some time, and take any offers he can get that might be useful for views and financial compensation. Jesse seriously needs to focus on the quality of his content, and he needs to focus on his financial situation. I am unsure of StoryFire's financial backend, but I guarantee you that Jesse has lost a TON of money in just keeping StoryFire up alone.
So with this being said, Jesse needs to regain the money that he has lost. He needs to regain his old audience, he needs to gain viewership again. We need some old 2016 and 2018 collab series back, as those racked in a TON of views, thus resulting in more money.
I really do think that Jesse should rebuild a new platform. It needs to be StoryFire, but better. StoryFire did a lot of things right that the next platform can do better. Jesse even said it himself, he has learned a lot within the last 4 years, and he even said that StoryFire itself was a learning experience. It most certainly was.
Personally, it's been a while since I've seen a decent video from Jesse. Jesse is burnt out, and he has been focusing a lot on StoryFire. I cannot wait, and am now quite interested, in seeing where Jesse goes after this. It is getting to a point where I actually want to see what Jesse does now. Despite me being a critic and supporter, I really want to see what happens next.
Let's talk about videos, features, and how it can learn and improve from StoryFire.
I think that Jesse should have a new platform up and running by 2023 at the earliest. I want to see a bigger and better StoryFire, that isn't StoryFire. I was thinking of some names that could be... Better suited to videos and social media sharing. A name I thought of... "RidgVid." Because since Jesse has been focusing on videos more than stories on StoryFire, I incorporated "vid" and "RiDGiD STUDiOS" together, since Jesse would be head of the scene. It would sound a bit more fluid and easier to remember.
Now, what should RidgVid do? Most of what StoryFire did, but it isn't that. It will be a primary video website for what StoryFire was intending to be. On Jesse's new site, the stories will be there as it was on StoryFire, maybe expanded upon a bit, but it will mostly function the same. The only difference is that it will not be clunky and difficult like StoryFire was. It will be a hybrid of 2010's YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
The video feature of the new site, you have to pay a one time fee of $5 USD or so (per account!) for it. You also have to verify your phone number, and have a valid email address. You start off with a 10 minute cap, you can't go over. Now, because finances are a stress point, if you want to get 5 additional minutes, you can pay $1.99 for that, and continue doing so. Payment is one easy way to do it. However, after paying the one time fee, you can circumvent buying more time and get more time to upload for free by surpassing a certain number of likes per video (i.e. if one video gets 500 likes, you are entitled to 3 extra minutes of upload length. This happens one per video and is capped at 30 minutes long.) Now, you might think that's a dumb idea.
>>Why would anyone pay $5 to upload? Well, finances. It supports Jesse and the site. But, if you are trusted in the community and have proven to upload consistently good videos, then you wouldn't have to pay the the $2 extra. And plus, the reason to pay in the first place is to completely get rid of the horrid application system that StoryFire had. Regardless, everyone wanted to upload. Now this begs the question, "with all these videos being uploaded, surely the servers will be overloaded. How do we prevent spam and nonsense videos?" Easy. Let's say you're like, 12, and you just uploaded a virtically filmed video of yourself playing Fortnite and you upload it to RidgVid (tell me if you like the name btw,) and he's talking in a high pitched voice giving "commentary" about what you are trying to see, and you see that no one liked the video (or it got disliked.) Well over time, users can flag videos they deem to be "legitimately unconstructive," or spam, or copyright (i.e. filming yourself reading a book or filming a concert straight-up with no filming professionalism or anything else.) In order for a video to be deleted in the name of spam or unconstructive content, users can flag it and it will be reviewed by a team of human spam moderators, and in good faith, they will determine if a video should be or should not be deleted. "And what about video game content?" Take a look at the video I linked above, there is a clear difference between no-commentary gameplay and gameplay with legitimate editorial substance.
Will anything be different with the homepage? I can argue that the homepage was arguable one of the worth things about the website. Had StoryFire would have had a homepage like VKontakte's social feed, kinda like how on Twitter, it immediately brings you to the social feed instead of anything else. For example, then it would have been a bit better. VK has a sidebar (in chronological order) that can bring you to your profile, news feed, messages, friends (or in StoryFire's case, subscribers. Even though StoryFire should have two seperate lists for subscribers and friends, like way far back OG YouTube did,) communities, photos, music, video, and games. There was even sections for a marketplace, which StoryFire was testing out years back, and "VK Pay," which StoryFire's answer was Blaze.
And regarding Blaze, the new site should keep Blaze's fundematal meaning, just don't call it Blaze. Drop the entire campfire and fire aspect altogether. Call it RidgCoin for all I care, I think that's a good name. But Blaze, keep that idea and fundemental.
For the moderators, I have heard first-hand stories from StoryFire mods that they do not have the proper tools to moderate the site. Jesse's next website should offer a whole slew of regulations and tools for moderators. This includes the ability to delete comments, story/social posts, view private DM's, view username changes internally, have the ability to ban users (instead of asking Brian to do it,) have the ability to leave private notes on users that can be seen only by other mods, the ability to have a moderator group DM with Jesse and other admins in it for direct conversation.
And as for video moderators, as I have previously mentioned, those would be different than social feed and story moderators. Two seperate teams, all under the same umbrella.
Direct messaging was barebones on StoryFire!!! C'mon, Jesse! I saw your video on Twitter telling people on Wallstreet Bets to join StoryFire. You showed them the profiles, the DM's. That isn't enough. StoryFire should have had group DM's like Reddit/Discord does. It should also have voice and video calling. No other video sharing website has that, maybe a few does... But more ideas for your next site!
It's a wrap.
McJuggerNuggets did in fact say that he wanted to keep the idea of StoryFire in mind. He made a phrase in his recent video that really inciuated that... StoryFire was just a stepping stone. A learning experience. And quite frankly, StoryFire was a MASSIVE learning experience. In fact, I am quite impressed with it. Although Jesse marketed it quite terribly, I feel really bad for the half a million he spent on the semi-failure marketing push and the lack of creators staying... You mostly can't blame them. StoryFire wasn't ready for it. Neither is it ready for investors. But, StoryFire was in fact an experiment. Likewise, I do not think Jesse is done. In fact, I want to see him make another platform. Using this thread and all the ideas, build off of StoryFire. Do not leave the stories part out of it. Look at the VK side bar, and it should have been a side tab on the web for people to view stories. Create other in-house features, like a documents page. Jesse's next site could be like, the Swiss Army Knife of video platforms. It could have all kinds of tools and features. Like how Google has Google Docs, Slides, YouTube, contacts, Drive... Jesse could create an all-on-one off brand site that could in fact beat other sites like Daily Motion and Vimeo out of the water simply because it has more in-house recourses and utilities.
Regardless, I hope you liked this post. It was just mostly some ideas, and complaints I had. Jesse, I am actually proud of you and of StoryFire. I know I have been very harsh since the marketing push, but that's because I was irritated with the direction it was going. I always have supported the StoryFire. Why I decided to come back, it was mostly out of shock and concern. I never expected this to happen so suddenly. The money could have gone to better areas, yeah, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that you did what other's couldn't. StoryFire will forever be a great example of "I'll make my own website because I do not like how the mainstream media and giant tech runs things." When people tell others "if you don't like it, go make your own site," this is exactly what happens when you do that. Jesse did just that. He proved to everyone that 1.) it's very expensive, and 2.) it's very hard to even begin competing.
You didn't let anyone down, Jesse. No one is disappointed. You stood up to the big tech with your own product. You did what people said to do, "go create your own site if you don't like it." You offered real solutions to big problems YouTube had. You offered a platform for everyone that was suppressed and silenced. StoryFire was better than Parler, it was better than most AltTech sites. It was just an experiment. A broken, buggy, but very ambitious Cyberpunk 2077-esque equivelant website. Big dreams, hard to do.
It took me two days to make this post. (I've been working a lot.) Sorry if I did not address any points. Tell me what you think.

[Pro League of Legends] The Ongoing Implosion of League of Legends' Most Prestigious Professional Organisation

This is the ongoing tale of the train wreck of League of Legend's most prestigious team, SKT T1, centered around Colour Caster and Streamer LS.
SKT T1
SKT was founded at the end of 2012 to compete in the Korea Regional Professional League of Legends Tournament, the LCK. They are the most successful team in existence. Their star player is Faker, the undisputed Great of All Time. They won 3 world championships (2013, 2015, 2016) and 2 Mid season invitationals (2016, 2017) and 9 LCK titles. No other team has even won Worlds more than once, and SKT with players Faker, Bengi and Coach kkOma have won it thrice.
However, in recent years they've began to struggle. Bengi left to perform his mandatory military service kkOma left at the end of 2019. In 2019 they were knocked out of Worlds in the semifinals by the European team G2 in an upset while they didn't even make it to Worlds in 2020.
At the end of 2019, SKT T1 rebranded into T1 in a joint venture between parent company SK Telecom and Comcast. They rebuilt around Faker (and giving him partial ownership) and gained Coach Kim from Damwon Gaming. Coach Kim had previously coached Invictus Gaming to victory in the 2018 Worlds.
However 2020 was a difficult year for T1, they dominated the first half of the year and claimed their 9th LCK title. The second half, however, they played poorly, drawing criticism to Coach Kim.
According to rumours, and analysis by other players such as the 2019 World MVP DoinB, there seemed to by communication issues within the team. Jungler Cuzz and Bot laner Teddy seemed to be playing at a different pace to Faker while support Effort kept getting caught out, costing them games. To alleviate the communication issues, Faker was subbed out with rookie player Clozer, finding some level of success.
Then playoffs came. Best of 3, T1 vs Afreeca Freecs. AF were known as the gatekeepers of the LCK. Ranked 5th, they dominated against lower ranked teams but struggled against higher ranked team like T1 who were ranked 4th. Game 1 T1 lost and Faker was immediately substituted back in. T1 won game 2 but lost game 3, losing the series.
T1 still had a chance to make it to Worlds though, they had to make through the gauntlet, a King of the Hill best of 5 against the 4th through 2nd placed teams, the first against AF, again.
They had changed their roster again however. Faker had returned and Cuzz and Teddy had been substituted with rookies Ellim and Gumayusi. T1 won the series 3-1 against AF, but proceeded to lose against 3rd place GenG 0-3.
Following their defeat, it came out that the weeks where Clozer was playing, Faker had gotten no practice with the team before being substituted back in the middle of playoffs. Furthermore, around that time period, he was filming a lot of ads and did a colab with BTS, cutting into precious play time. To make matters worse, an interview with Coach Kim came out from several months before hand where he had criticised the quality of the T1 players, and said he wasn't happy with them. This draws a stark difference with kkOma who always tried to draw responsibility for SKT's failures to him.
Also, images of T1 cars parking in disabled positions started circulating.
Shortly after their loss, Coach Kim resigned, leaving T1's coach position empty. Rumours of kkOma floated around as he had just returned from coaching a team in China and his wife had given birth, but nothing certain.
LS
LastShadow9, or just LS as he prefers is somewhat of a controversial figure. He is the colour caster for the English Broadcast of the LCK. Most of the controversy stems from the fact he always predicts Korean teams to 3-0 G2, as he did with SKT vs G2 that G2 won, and GenG vs G2 (G2 3-0) and Damwon Gaming vs G2 (3-1 Damwon this time and DWG went on to win 2020 worlds).
He is also known for heavy emphasis on draft and itemisation, drafting in particular being something T1 has struggled with. In terms of itemisation, he is known for disliking certain items such as Black Cleaver while promoting items like Liandry's Anguish to the point that he was nicknamed Liandries Salesman, something he has embraced.
As a teenager he was involved in the Starcraft scene before he lost everything and moved to Korea homeless before eventually finding League and making a living for himself. I will note here that LS was found to be cheating in Starcraft and was banned but put those days behind him.
LS did coach two teams, the most recent was BBQ Olivers in 2018 in the Challenger Korea tournament, which qualifies teams for the LCK. He elevated BBQ Olivers from last place to 4th place before the team imploded (players weren't getting fed and LS took 4 of the players into his own home while things were going down) and he left. Following his departure, BBQ Olivers dropped back down to 10th place.
As for future coaching, LS has said that he's received offers from North American and European teams but he didn't want to leave Korea and he'd only join a team he though had a chance of winning worlds, especially with how much streaming was making him. He has however, coached a lot of different players, many of him managed to go pro.
LS is mostly unknown in Korea outside of a single event while he was on BBQ Olivers which is important later.

The Rumours begin

Following Kims resignation, it was unknown who would be coaching T1. Majority of the rumours presumed kkOma as he had returned to Korea and on stream he had received a DM asking if he was coaching T1 again that he immediately closed.
In the meantime, T1 CEO Joe Marsh asked LS on twitter to carry him, and LS tweeted an image of a sauna, which was later determined to be the sauna from T1 HQ. Some people joked that LS would be coaching T1 but most thought he would be simply joined T1 as a streamer, especially since T1 signed Tyler1 as a streamer a few weeks later.
In the meantime, Damwon Gaming won Worlds, with Coaches Zefa (former SKT coach) and Daeny, a former pro PUBG player.
Around this time Effort leaks on stream a discord chat with T1 management announcing LS and Polt (A former starcraft Pro, number 1 TFT player and doesn't play league) as Coach and Head Coach respectively. Nothing comes of this yet as Effort was streaming on a Chinese platform while the chat logs are in Korean. A rough translation can be found here.
A few days later, LS makes a short stream, saying he's going to be disabling his socials because he was beginning to be harassed about rumours of him being head coach. He also tweeted about it..

Hell breaks loose

November 3rd, a post is made to reddit showing LS becoming T1's coach. This is around the time it starts gaining traction in Korean sites as well. As can be seen from the reddit post, the western side is mostly just memeing around, some are excited while others are cautious. Others in the scene say their sources confirm its happening.
The Korean side is not happy at all. Hiring unproven coaches on top of the issues earlier in the year is a big no no. In addition, LS is really only known for a controversy in Korea while he was on BBQ. One of BBQ's players, Malice was extremely toxic and racist in games, and so a SKT player, Untara called him out in a video, and LS defended Malice, saying Untara was a hypocrite for not calling out other toxic players. Understandably this doesn't go down well.
Joe Marsh Tweets out the below, not really doing much to extinguish the flames:
For those inquiring about 2021 @T1LoL Coaches. Nothing can be finalized until we have formal approval from @LCK_Global - per league rules. Once approved, contracts go into the GCD. We look to formally announce in the next week. As always, we appreciate your unwavering support.
In addition Malice tweets out that LS was not the one who made the comments, and that LS's Korean wasn't even good enough to do so.
In Korea, fans sent funeral wreaths to T1 HQ and a truck was seen driving around Seoul with a signboard saying things like "No future for a team that shuts out devoted fans," "We, SKT T1 fans, demand a clear and detailed explanation from top management," among others.
Then Nemesis, a proplayer and friend of LS, said on stream that LS's grandma was getting threats. and other people have confirmed that it was happening.
The Korean fanbase seems to have taken this as an attack and think LS is making this up as they haven't seen proof inorder to get back. This is despite no one ever mentioning that the people harassing were Korean. Also, some are choosing to interpret this as racism.
Then another proplayer and friend of LS, Bwipo posts on twitter(now deleted)screenshots of the T1 discord from the mod chats. The images showed that moderators were prevented from taking down the racist and homophobic (as LS is bi but generally says he's gay) content that the server was being inundated with. Moderators who did were removed and were told that "The Board is Watching"
Then T1 announced their coaching staff. They signed Polt as General Manager and former Damwon coaches Zefa (making a return to SKT) and Daeny. No mention of LS at all, though a rumour says that LS is remaining as a coach. and SKT had to step in. In addition kkOma turned down an offer from T1.
But the drama just keeps going. The korean fanbase keeps making their demands. the T1 twitter account releases a statement, trying to cool the flames, however, the English and Korean statements are different. TLDR is that the English one appears to be apologising about toxic fans while the Korean one is apologising for failures on the discord. But now even more people are angry. Korean fans because they didn't get what they wanted and Western fans, including some prominent western figures such as players, casters and streamers are criticising T1 for their response.
T1 proceeded to shut down their discord and temporarily disable their twitter, which is now back up. CEO Joe Marsh removes all mentions of T1 from his bio before later making his twitter protected.
And just today, T1 fans posted an open letter to T1 with a rough translation here. But the drama is still ongoing and who knows what will happen. This whole time LS has been silent though he did reactivate his twitter.
And something I forgot to mention, consistently, the Korean fanbase seems to have constantly asked for one thing, an Apology for signing LS.

My X1K Story so far......

My X1K Story so far......
Greetings factorio people. I have been trying a challenge for the past 7 months.... here is how that has been going.
The challenge is to launch a rocket in Factorio on vanilla settings but the science is 1,000 times more expensive. So instead of 10 red science packs for automation, I need 10,000 and yes , those had to be made in my pockets. I did give my self a Larger starting area and I also increased the size and Yield of resource patches. I made the Biter bases slightly Fewer but larger and Evolution, Expansion and Pollution are all switched ON and Cliffs are enabled. I called this the X1K challenge.
I have failed twice at this challenge, which I started in March 2020. On my first attempt I played on a map that had 10 choke points that needed to be defended. I managed to secure them all with gun turrets, walls and yellow ammo and I was supplying those turrets with an ammo facility making 900 yellow ammo per minute. Yellow ammo was fine for small biters but not so good vs medium. I was running out of ammo all the time and having to repair the walls and before long I was spending all my time running from 1 choke point to another choke point trying to repair the walls before the next attacks came in. My walls were a 10 deep block of walls then a row of gun turrets, being fed with ammo from yellow inserters from a yellow belt. My intent was to hold them at the 10 deep wall and give the turrets enough time to destroy the biters. I was unable to build anything at all because all my time was spent repairing damaged choke points and then the blue biters came and just ate my whole base. I literally had whole platoons of biters just strolling through my base in multiple directions. On the first play through I got to 180 hours and I had just finished researching Oil processing. I had managed to make a science production facility capable of 2k science per minute of red, green, grey and blue science packs but I could not make the red ammo production facility and the blue biters just wiped me out.

I learnt a lot from that playthrough. I had been saving it after each completed research and so I could go back to previous saves to try to make improvements. I tried lots of different ideas to improve that but in the end I think the 10 choke points to defend was way to many....so i did what we all do.... I spent the best part of a day randomly rolling maps until I found a map that had 3 choke points and the rest was natural defences(water). The draw back was I had considerably less resources available to me and I knew I had to get a red ammo production facility producing lots of red ammo to feed the 3 choke points, With the resources available to me I could make 2k red ammo per minute but my science was only 900 per minute and I thought this might be ok because when the science is 1,000 times more expensive then researches come slow regardless of 2k per minute or 900 per minute.
I had gun turret defences that were essentially 10 rows of gun turrets being fed by yellow inserters. I had found that I needed to have 10 rows to be able to last some time vs the blue biter waves when they came. The problem I had was that my walls had some external corners and the blue bitters had no problem destroying those corners...I was trying to rebuild them while being attacked but i could not even see the floor to know where to put the power poles to power the inserters to feed the gun turrets that were dying to blue spitters. Meanwhile my 900 science per minute was ensuring that my science was virtually standing still while im desperately trying to repair the walls and plug the gaps before ..inevitably ..the biters destroyed me. Despite going back to previous saves and trying different ideas, I had to conceded defeat at 180 hours in and I had not even research Fluid handling , let alone Flamers or ... construction bots.
You see the idea was to rush as fast as possible to flamers so I could hold of the biters long enough to get blue science, lasers and construction bots. just trying to hold of the biters while research ticks up. the thing that destroyed me this time was my science was to slow and also i cant have any walls with external corners. I need the biters to attack me head on and also I need to make the walls much simpler so I can run along and replace them very quickly.
So I restarted my 3rd attempt, with all I have learnt so far. I have stuck with the same map and I have gone back to a previous save that is 50 hours in where I think I have done everything as efficiently as possible. I had to secure an even smaller area for myself due to not being able to have external corners in my wall defences. This meant I had to really optimise my mine fields to be able to give me maximum belts. I have enough resources for 2k science per minute but only enough for 1k red ammo after that. I have decided to use the iron belts from Grey science to help increase my red ammo production.
At this time I have built 3 choke point defences with gun turrets but this time they are being fed by 2 burner inserters each pulling coal from a split belt of red ammo and coal, from a yellow belt. I have researched landfill early so I can extend the ends of my choke points into the water so I have a larger arch of fire on the ends of my defences. I have built 1.2GW of steam power which is enough to last me past blue science. I have made 1 ammo production facility capable of 1k red ammo per minute just to feed my walls for now and later I will make one that has 6k ammo per minute capability. I have a very tiny Science set up and I am personally crafting all my green science packs in my pockets to try and lower evolution through production, as what i craft in my pockets doesn't cause pollution of evolve the enemy.
Its kind of a catch 22. I need to make ammo to defend the walls. That production causes evolution(blue biters earlier) and also Pollution, which triggers the attacks. So then I need to build more ammo to defend against the triggered attacks and it snow balls fast from there until the attacks are constant blue biters tearing my base apart. Of course it doesn't mater how far the biters evolve if they dont attack so keeping the pollution cloud within my larger starting area is vital as once the pollution starts hitting the biter nest, it becomes end game soon after.
So the strategy is to build walls that are rows of 10 turrets deep full of red ammo but easy to repair. That way they keep the biters busy, long enough for me to be able to build other stuff. Build a science facility capable of 2k per minute and ammo facility capable of 6k per minute, all while keeping evolution and pollution as low ass possible and trying to not trigger attacks. It means I have to fill up my smelters slowly and not produce to many things in assembly machines to fast, otherwise the pollution problem happens. If i can get all this built before the blue biters then I feel i can hold off long enough to get flamers. I hope the flamers give me enough of a chance to get to lasers.
I have been posting a weekly update on a Facebook factorio group https://www.facebook.com/groups/150323068632560 for the past 6 months of all my fails and a awesome dude there said perhaps I should post it here. So I have.
I have included some screen shots of my latest efforts and also I am streaming all my current attempts on Twitch as and when I am able to play. My play times are very sporadic and also I am not interested in being Mr Twitch entertainment guy, so im not talking a whole lot because im busy listening to pod casts and building my base but I do have a mic and I can see chat so I am happy to answer questions ect. Come and take a look if you like watching the most boring and slow start to a factorio game ever, its like watching paint dry. www.twitch.tv/marcmerry At least you wont have to wait the 20+ hours it took to research automation so I could make my first assembler.
I will try to update weekly and keep you informed of my efforts.
Thanks for reading
Marc Merry
West choke point
61 iron ore smelters for 2k science per minute
1k red ammo per minute
my current footprint
1.2GW of steam power fed my col from mines next door
My way of feeding ammo and coal into my choke points
early base but i made so much red science. i dont know why i did that.
The earliest way of feeding 3 choke points with yellow ammo
New and improved for X1KV3, Single lane walkways to help me fast travel from choke to choke
Does that Island look like the UK ?
I think i shouldn't have let my smelters fill up their internal buffers. Might have to go to a previous save. Lets see.
