This post is in no way encouraging you to sell your positions or even open new ones. Thats because I'm not a fiduciary advisor and know fuck all about what you should or shouldn't do. Now lets get into it. This post is my DD that I wanted to share on $VIRT, not because I am recommending you to do anything, but because I enjoy researching shit because its fun and I figured this would help organize my thoughts.
So lets get into it. I'm sure most of you have noticed the new exposure this sub has been getting on a worldwide scale. If you've been here even since Dec. in 2020, you'd notice this sub has even gained over 6M subscribers in the last month. I'm not going to tell you I've been around since the start, I've just been lurking and a post or comment every once and a while since I started following a few years ago. The sub count really means fuck all to be honest, the real numbers that are important here are the #'s of new retail traders joining the markets while bringing in new money by doing so. For those who are lazy fucks who don't want to open the article: with no fee trading, retail traders have flooded the market. To what extent you may ask, and why the fuck does this matter? Well back in Jan 2020, before the March crash, retail made up ~17% of trades on the market. By July/August, this shot up to 25%. Some analyst in this article noted their prediction for 2021 is 30%+ of volume will be made up of retail. THE TREND IS INCREASING for those of you who couldn't pass your 2nd grade math class. So why did i even mention GME to start? Well according to an analyst from Piper Sandler, this past Wednesday set a new record for volume traded for US cash equities of 24.5 Billion . Thats volume traded, not a $ amount. Options volume also hit a record high in volume at 57.1 Million. For both stocks and options, this supposedly is double the record in volume traded in a single day from 2020, or triple in 2019. One last important #, its estimated amongst the top 6 brokers, there are 100 Million+ retail traders. 100 Million thats a fuck ton of regular Joes' and retards joining the game gambling away their $600 stimulus checks.
TLDR: Retail trading #s are going the fuck up, and fast. This in turn mean a fuck ton more volume traded on the market.
OK Cool. Why does this matter? Well aside from Melvin Securities (Melvin Capitals Market Makescum of the earth), there are other Market Makers that do the same thing (provide liquidity to brokers allowing autists like us to buy and sell stocks and options). Companies like $VIRT, Virtu Financial, that are publicly traded. Lets take a look at the breakdown of trading volume across market makers, Brokers, Liquidity providers etc:

$VIRT has showed a consistent increase in trading revenue and EPS since their IPO in 2015. This growth is due to various synergies on their platform from previous buyouts, volume spikes (due to volatility) and you guessed it, an increased amount of retail trading. According to their 2019 full year report, they supported approximately ~30% of all retail trading. Ok so why does all this matter, if this trend in increased retail trading continues, that means more trading income for $VIRT. And turn, higher earnings. Why? This is because those Ask/Bid spreads you see when buying/selling are typically provided through market makers. They make money off of these spreads. 1 cent here or there, maybe a little more for wider spreads times millions of trades/day equals out to big money for them. An even bigger wet dream would be if Melvin Securities went under and that portion of the market making sector being open for the taking. Then again, that probably won't happen but regardless Fuck Melvin.
So what else? $VIRT has provided a $0.24 dividend for 22 consecutive quarters and also announced $100 million in buy backs on their Q3 report released in Nov 2020, also making a statement to "meaningfully enhance shareholder returns" with additional buybacks and dividends moving forward. And a shout out to the true gambling addicts who love earnings plays, $VIRT has earnings coming up on Feb 11th. Thats this Thursday. Lets even take a look at their revenue growth. According to their 2019 full year report, Virtu took in $1.5B in revenues. Fast forward to the first 3 quarters of 2020, that totals over $2.5B and we still even haven't seen Q4 results yet. While yes, the volume in March/April played a part in this, Q3 revenues were still over $650M, which is still over a third of the full 2019 year. Their current market cap is only ~$5.4B with a PE of 6.6. Talk about nice returns. Time to bet on the Casino instead sitting down at the fucking roulette table.
TLDR: More retail trading = more $$ for market makers like $VIRT

A common argument used by supporters of capitalism is that risk-taking should be rewarded. When someone buys stock in a company, and then receives dividends on that stock, they have made money without actually doing any work. They have literally 'spent money to make money'.
So long as it is legal to have ownership share in a company without also working for said company, it will be possible to turn money into more money without labor. To profit entirely off of Capital. This is why this ownership model is central to Capitalism, and indeed defines it. One can have trade and markets without being Capitalist (hence Market Socialism being a thing), but one cannot be Capitalist without this ownership model.
Most non-Capitalists point to this as a flaw of Capitalism, since it allows those with wealth to increase their own wealth without actually doing labor. The retort is that they are 'taking risk' by investing money.
This, however, is false. Or at least misleading, since different people will have different ideas about what constitutes 'risk'.
As a simple scenario, imagine a man who makes $10 an hour. He will earn $400 in a typical workweek. This works out to about $20000 a year, assuming two weeks off from sickness/vacation/etc. Now imagine another man who makes millions a year.
These two men walk into a casino, and each bids $500 at a roulette table. The man who makes $10 an hour is clearly taking a very big risk - he's betting more than a week's worth of income - but you'd be hard-pressed to argue that the multi-millionaire is taking the same risk.
The rich man could bet and lose a hundred thousand dollars, and his lifestyle will almost certainly not be impacted. The poor man could potentially lose his home if he loses just that $500, especially if he's living paycheck to paycheck.
This is why the 'risk' argument is bogus. Losing money is damaging because money buys food, water, and shelter. Once you have enough wealth to ensure you'll always have your basic needs met, additional wealth has significantly less benefit to you.
Now one could argue that if a wealthy person was literally betting all their wealth on a single investment, then they could potentially go homeless and hungry from it. And this is true, but this scenario is incredibly uncommon ('diversify your portfolio' is basically investing 101) and doesn't negate the criticism of the wealthy being able to turn money into more money without labor or any actual risk.
Of course, this is coming from a consequentialist perspective, since the argument is essentially: "for the poor man, the consequences of losing $500 are worse, therefore he is taking more risk with the $500 bet". If you are not a consequentialist, then this criticism would not apply. You could easily argue that "losing $500 is losing $500 no matter who you are" and there's no logical reason to go with my interpretation over yours.
But most humans are consequentialists, and indeed (from what I can tell) most Capitalists. Most Capitalists on this forum, at least by my reckoning, are Capitalists precisely because they think it leads to better outcomes: lifting people out of poverty, encouraging innovation, etc.
It seems to me, then, that to be Capitalist requires either acknowledging that this is a problem but insisting that the other positive outcomes make up for it, or else insisting you aren't a consequentialist - and therefore arguing that you support Capitalism despite the fact that humanity as a whole would be better off without it.

Lately I've been reading and watching on the news about Robinhood and I just wanted to give my two cents as somebody who actually researches Gambling disorder in the United States. My goal in this post is to hopefully encourage people on WSB to become politically active in preventing the regulations or removal of certain aspects that Robinhood allows on its investing platform. First, let me define some terms from the Gambling disorder field:

• Gambling- placing something of value on a random outcome in order to achieve a desired result or profit (this last part is added by me as I think it gives a better explanation of why an individual gambles in the first place);
• Gambling disorder: A psychological disorder where an individual is unable to control their gambling to the point that they are experiencing consequences from the behavior. The behavior also has to occur without the presence of Mania, other biological co-morbidity, or under the influence of a psychoactive substance.

In this post I will address a few arguments at Robinhood. The first is regarding the "gambling" nature of investment that Robinhood purportedly encourages. The second is that the average investor needs to be "protected" because they lack the information and knowledge to participate on the app.
When I first downloaded Robinhood, I was skeptical at first and proceeded to uninstall and reinstall it multiple times before I deposited $350 to invest in stock. The app provided me a "scratch-off" with my first deposit that rewarded me with my first stock (some medical company). That was the only time that event occurred. If we look at my prior definition of gambling, technically that is not a form of gambling. I placed nothing of value on this random outcome. If the actual act of investing in stock is gambling this leads to an interesting analogy regarding trading platforms, not just Robinhood.
Stocks are the game (roulette, blackjack, craps), Robinhood and trading platforms are the dealers (giving information on the rules of the game and how much it costs to place a bet), and the liberal market is the casino.
In this analogy everybody is in the Casino, and if you don't play the game you stand to lose regardless as your money loses value to inflation. Even worse, if the casino folds the people that didn't cash out or were fully invested in the casino never collapsing (The Great Depression, the recession of 2008 the coronavirus recession) can stand to lose everything even if they didn't participate (regular person that was laid off) or were placing safe bets (ETF's Blue chip stocks etc).
The Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Galvin, is addressing the wrong issue by suing Robinhood. What should be addressed is the reasons that people even participate in Robinhood or in any trading platform. The average individual doesn't understand the market and the United States does not address this ignorance by providing information on how to properly invest for retirement or provide a welfare structure that protects against poverty as individuals become unable to participate fully in the economy due to injury, developmental disability, age, discrimination or lack of access to the "free" market. To claim that people on Robinhood "gamble" for excitement or risk is reductive. People invest their money on Robinhood for the potential accumulate life changing "tendies" that will protect them from the eventuality that they will be unable to participate in the economy and the government will not insulate them from the fiscal impact an individual will (not if) have to deal with in regards rising medical cost for their healthcare and any other services they would require in order to lead a normal life. If William Galvin is actually concerned about the "gamefying" of investment, he should focus on regulating Wall Street and the Banking sector, because last time I checked investors on Robinhood invest with their own money, not the money of other people.
The argument that the average investor isn't informed also leads to more issues that I guarantee the government doesn't want to address or even ask because it would require an expansion of the welfare state and higher taxes on companies and individuals. If the average American is too dumb to invest using Robinhood that what is the solution? The U.S. government has always fought any sort of government guaranteed income or services to insulate an individual against against insolvency from the free market as can be seen by the desire to privatize almost all forms of government programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps and Medicaid. This has already occurred with certain programs at the federal level such as HUD which doesn't do anything to help people get affordable housing and the drastic reduction in funding for colleges and universities especially after boomers were done getting their degrees for essentially free.
So lets examine what the average person has to understand in the American economy,

• they have to be able to plan and invest for their retirement,
• understand loans (including all the fine print such as interest) to pay for college, and purchasing of necessary items for certain areas such as housing or a car;
• Navigate a Byzantine like medical industry that can easily bankrupt the average American even with insurance;

So the average American is suppose to navigate all of the aforementioned areas with little to no government assistance. But Robinhood should be regulated, makes sense. Let's not even talk about that most Americans read at about an 8th grade level and have a tough time understanding that a quarter pounder is less than a one third hamburger...

The REAL QUESTION is what responsibility does the government have to insulate the average American from an economy that by its very nature is predatory, especially when the argument set forth by William Galvinson is that the public doesn't understand how to invest on Robinhood. Especially since the government has told the public from day one to take care of themselves as they get older through investing instead of expecting the government to provide assistance. By removing or regulating Robinhood, the fungibility of the average American's dollar will drop in value because they are prevented from another avenue of wealth accumulation, which research shows (at least for those in poverty) they turn to gambling as a means of wealth accumulation because even though the return on a gamble is less it is technically even since their dollar is also worth less.
I think I may have gone on a rant, sorry.

Hello all, I am a graduate student in finance with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. I wrote my thesis on how macroeconomic policy affects US equity markets (equity markets = stock market). I've spent the last 3 years studying this stuff and I'd say that I am not qualified in any sense to give sound investment advice. What that should tell you is that the stock market is an extremely complex landscape and takes years to understand. Even the best of the best lose money. With that being said, this comment is for informational purposes and not to be taken as investment advice or direction.

I originally wrote this post as a comment to another user, but thought that it may be beneficial for others to use. It's very surface level, but I think it does a good job of answering some more abstract questions that people may have about equity markets. I also think it does a good job of establishing a solid, albeit basic idea of value investing and financial analysis.

Understand that the last ten years does not accurately represent equity markets historically. From 1925 to 1941, if you invested in the S&P 500 index, you would have seen an average annual return of less than 5% with several of those years being negative- over the next ten years. Same goes for 1960 to 1975. (Disclaimer: Before people tear me apart saying you can't invest in the S&P 500 directly, I know. I'm using it as an example.)

We've experienced a remarkably strong bull market over the last ten years, with 20% annual returns on the S&P 500 index; however, just because we've had a strong market the last ten years does not mean it will stay that way. Consider Japan in the early 1990s. Their bull market turned into a bubble (google: financial bubble) and for the next 10 years they saw no long term growth in their equity markets. They call the 1990s in Japan, "the lost decade". So this begs the question: if there are 10, sometimes 15 year long periods where we have almost no growth, or perhaps negative returns, when, where, and why should I park my money in equities?

The first thing I think we should understand is risk. Risk is at the heart of almost all things "investing". If you go to the casino, and place $5,000 straight at the roulette table, your payout is a massive 35:1. If your bet hits, you walk away with $180,000. But statistically, your chances of winning are less than 3%. The risk is massive. Alternatively, if you buy a 3-month US treasury bill, the payout is around .1%. Meaning you would made $5 on a $5,000 investment. Why? The risk is so low. Also, what is a 3-month US treasury bill? Let me explain.

A US Treasury bill is a short-term government debt security. Here's how it works. You give the US government $5,000. They now owe you $5,000 PLUS interest at a future date. In this example, it's 3 months. The US government says, "Thank you! We will give you $5,005 back in three months!" In three months, they give you the money back. Ask yourself, if you had to guess the percentage likelihood of the US government collapsing in the next three months, what would it be? Pretty low, right? That's why the return is so low. The United States government has the power, means, right, and infrastructure to tax the wealthiest population on the planet. Also, they aren't going out of business anytime soon. Therefore, that $5 return on a $5,000 investment is essentially guaranteed. Check out this chart.

All stocks sit somewhere on this line of risk and return. But, how do we know the risk and return? Great question. How do we assess the value of an asset? An asset's worth is the sum of its future cash flows discounted to today's dollars. Read that again. An asset's worth is the sum of its future cash flows discounted to today's dollars. This is what we call "Net Present Value". Here's a video over it. Here's the NPV formula.

Let's say we have a machine that spits out one dollar every year for 5 years. What is the value of that machine assuming a 2% inflation rate every year? Let's find out! Remember our NPV formula? Let's do the math. [$1 / (1+ .02)1] + [$1 / (1+ .02)2]+ ... + [$1 / (1+ .02)5] = $4.71. In this example, inflation rate is the discount rate; however, the discount rate can be many other things. We won't go into that right now though.

So what does this mean to you? It gives you perspective. All those price movements in the stock market are the product of huge investment banks, mutual funds, and hedge funds moving money in and out of equities in massive quantities, with those decisions backed by hundreds, if not thousands of hours of research with private data that you can't access even if you had the money too.
​
One of the big ways they (big banks) make these decisions is by using the NPV formula with Net Income in the numerator to determine the value of the asset and a rate to discount the cash flows at (there are ways to do this, again, we won't go into it). Then they use more complex methods to assess risk. Other methods of valuation may be used, but again, this is one of the big ones.
​
So far, we've learned that risk and reward are positively correlated and companies are valued by their earnings. But, if companies are valued by their earnings, then why do bubbles happen? Why does the market tank sometimes? Shouldn't the market accurately reflect all companies at any given time? In theory, yes. But humans are irrational creatures, and often wrong. Therefore, stock prices are not always appropriately valued.

I am going to introduce you to two financial ratios: earnings per share (EPS) and price to earnings (P/E) ratio. NOTE: EARNINGS = NET INCOME.

Earnings per share is the net income of a company divided by it's number of outstanding shares. EPS = Net Income / Shares Outstanding. So let's say my company has a net income of $100 for the 2020 year and there are 100 shares outstanding. That would mean that my company's EPS is $1. Let's look at a real example: Apple. Click on this link. In the top left hand corner, click on sections>financial statements>consolidated statements of operations. Find EPS. Apple's EPS is 3.31. That's pretty solid. EPS puts a companies earnings in perspective with respect to the number of shareholders it has, which allows you to compare a companies earnings to its competitors, whether they be smaller or larger.

Next, the price to earnings ratio. This is easy to calculate. It is just the share price divided by the EPS. PE = Price / EPS. What this does is puts the price of the stock in perspective with respect to its earnings. Consider the example where my company had an EPS of $1. Let's say the price of my stock is $30 per share. That would mean my PE ratio is 30 (PE raio of 30 = $30/$1 EPS). For some perspective on the PE ratio- the average P/E ratio in the S&P 500 is 25-30. But they can be as high as 1,000 (like Tesla) or as low 4 or 5. What the PE ratio does is says, "Hey man, here's a metric to determine how justifiable the price of this stock is considering how much the company makes." Generally speaking, investing in companies that have low PE ratios tend to show higher returns. Why? Because there is more of an acceptable margin (historically) for the price to increase with respect to earnings.

For example: Five years ago, Apple's PE ratio was around 10. Now it's 40. This means the price went up, the earnings went down, or both. Over the last 5 years, Apple's EPS has increased. Therefore, because it's PE ratio is increasing as well, this means that it's price of the stock is increasing faster than it's earnings. Reference this chart. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the big boys like Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, etc. think that Apple is going to do really well over the coming years as of right now. But let's say that tomorrow Apple was outed as a front for a money laundering scheme and they were going to be audited by the SEC and FBI. The price would tank. Why? Because people would be questioning if Apple would even exist as a company in the following years. They (the big boys, the government, me and you) would doubt their earnings. Rightfully so, I should add.

What I (and many others) do is look at companies and determine:
​

1. Are their earnings sound? (Is it positive? If not, will it be positive? Will the company grow? Will another company come in and do whatever this company is doing, better?) This will help you determine if the return will be solid.
2. What is the current price of the equity in relation to the earnings? (What's the PE? Is it going up? Is it going down? Why?) This will help you determine how risky is your investment.

A solid company is generally one that has a high EPS, a low PE ratio, and is expected to grow. The reason Tesla has a PE ratio of >1,000 is because people expect it to grow. Like, they expect it to be the largest electric vehicle company by net income in the next 10-20 years AND expand into other markets like solar energy and batteries. Will they be right? I guess we'll see!

This is the tip of the ice berg when it comes to investing. If you truly want to learn how to capture returns without exposing your investment to a large amount of risk, you are going to have to spend time learning how to do this. Here are some resources:

• The Intelligent Investor (with Commentary) by Benjamin Graham. Read it entirely, the commentary first, then the chapters (Commentary, chapter, commentary, chapter, ...). Then read the commentary again and make notes.
• Learn how to read three financial statements: The balance sheet, the income statement, the statement of cash flows.
• Watch Martin Shkreli's investing lessons on Youtube. Specifically the first 5 or 6. Yes, he's done some bad stuff. But he really is an excellent teacher and extremely smart.

In my opinion, experience is a great teacher. Play with a small amount of money. Throw $100 at a stock you like and see what happens to it. If it drops 10% in a day, figure out why. If it goes up 10% in a day, figure out why. If it goes up steadily over the next six months, figure out why. If it doesn't do anything- figure out why.

I'm 17 months clean from drugs and drinking. I always enjoyed sports betting. Things never got too out of hand but as of recently I have been losing so much on casino games like blackjack and roulette. I recognize I have a problem. And I know I need to stop. Draftkings Casino/Sportsbook's Transaction Log/Statement is showing a significant amount of gambling winnings and stakes wagered. However, a big bulk of these numbers was generated from wagers that ended up pushing (ie placing 5 dollars on both red/black in roulette). It would show in the transaction history as

I understand that on a whole, gross winnings are taxable income and losses are an itemized deduction. However, on an individual bet basis, is the cost of the wager subtracted from the payout to get the gross winnings? So in this case (pretend this is the only bet), would the winnings put as taxable income be 0 or would I have generated 10 dollars of winnings and 10 dollars of losses? Another example: say I wager 100 dollars and the payout is 1 dollar. Would the numbers for this individual bet be a 99 dollar loss, or a 1 dollar win and a 100 dollar loss. Important distinction for me, as it currently doesn't make sense for me to itemize. I don't know whether I should trust the Bet Winnings/Stakes Wagered numbers in the DK Sportsbook Statement Summary.

Ok I know the title is so ridiculous and mad.
To start off , i’m not a casino owner nor a casino player: so i wont benefit if casinos were legal again.
I liked to mention that, so you wont think: “oh this guy just wants to legalize casinos because he is a casino owner”. Believe me, im not.
Here are my points on why CASINOS MUST BE LEGAL AGAIN:
1-Players are gonna create casinos and bet anyways whether casinos are legal or not.
So we are basically wasting the mods’ time instead of fixing duped items or fixing the servers we are wasting time and energy on banning casinos. I know mods like: @jenuine or @justnothing have nothing to do with fixing the servers, but they are better off catching scammers than wasting time on catching casinos.
2-We lost more players due to casino related bans than players quitting because they lost a bet in casinos.
I dont have the exact numbers, but it is reasonable to hypothesize that more players have been banned because they hosted/owned/played casino than players that quit because they lost a bet in a casino game.
3-Casinos are a great source of income for super rich players.
Casinos create a whole new market: selling access, selling roulette wheels, selling worlds, selling links, bet taxes, and so on. Well thats not a whole NEW market, but it widens the economy; if you get what im saying.
4-It will teach people responsibility.
Bet on your own responsibility. If you lose: you lose. If you win: you win. This teaches us to face the consequences of our actions.
5-It will clear the “Random worlds screen” from all casino links.

3/3/3 isn’t bad, but fitting her into some of your later turns might be kinda hard, but she could see play since rally 5 is pretty low.
Dramatic Retreat 2
Better soul conversion jokes aside, this can’t really be used on Tokens to not pollute the deck, and banishing a big boi that isn’t the world or Arriet or some weird combo isn’t good tempo. Still basically soul conversion tho.
Stalwart Slinger 2.5
Natural 5/5/6 that deals 3 isn’t a bad deal at all, but lacks synergies or all around power to warrant Constructive play. Great T2 card.

Rune not only got a good amount of synergistic support, but the other archetypes supported got some great support as well. Few outliers though.
Rivaylian Deputy 1
2/1/2 that draws a card and sets up your Vincent/Maiser plays, or just higher tempo later. Also Curves pretty disgustingly into [Passionate Potioneer]
Crystal Fencer 1
While it doesn’t draw, it’s great for tempo in the early game being a 3/3/3 that spellboosts, but the card keeps you in the game in the late game by making your top decked Kuons and newly duped runies much more easily playable.

I have absolutely no idea how to judge this card. 4/3/7 unconditional storm is absolutely disgusting, especially with All the buff amulets rune got. But giving your opponent their own 4/3/7 that she can’t deal with on her own is... atrociously horrible.
Terra Nova 1.5
4/4/4 worth of stats on 2 bodies with partial wars while also buffing the entire board by 1 atk each without any cost at all, especially not 10 shadows isnt bad at all if board rune works, but the real nasty part is if 1 other follower is on board, you get 3 procs of Vincent’s effect, meaning 3 AOE to all enemies.
Scorching blast 1
On one hand, could be meh Spellboost support, 1pp deal 5 in that deck is pretty good, but the REAL use is Item shop- early game removal that costs 0 during shop chains meaning more pings going face is EXTREMELY good for that deck.
Artistic Arcanist 1
A possible 5/6/5 if he’s the only one on board, or possibly giving that 6 attack to a follower going face. Also gives an amulet that doesn’t leave when a follower enters play, as well as a 1pp Add a Vincent spell to your hand at the end of your turn effect, giving you 3 Vincent spells, meaning 3 AOE. Oh, and did I tell you his fanfare gives ANOTHER 3 Vincent Spells, meaning 3 more AOE, including Face? Pretty good.
Golem Marshal 1
First off, great Accel, both in Vince/Maiser rune and just for Spellboost, cause 1pp spell that buffs incoming shikigami is goood, it’s also just a spell that gives a Steed without summoning anything can be really useful for setting up Maiser chains, but a 7/9/15 with 2 wards, added value over multiple turns, AND gives you 2 Vincent spells and/or 2 Maiser Spells is really freaking good.
Dragon
Class rating: 2
Has some good support, but between a lack of a game plan other than buff Reggie ramp play big dudes and 1 or 2 good supports dragon got nothing too big at all this expansion.
BTW the Artisan/Blacksmith thematic is a nice touch.
Wyrmfire Engineer 1.75
Hard to judge, but you can curve this into bike into Reggie on curve to ramp, and it can be used as a better Pyne in overflow, or to buff storm Reggie/Erntz, but does seem clunky outside overflow

2pp deal 3 outside overflow, 2pp deal 7 and draw a card in overflow is amazing. Does have anti synergy with DJD, but he’s not in rota forever.

3/3/3 storm is not to be taken lightly, as seen previously by mechaclaw Elf, but at the same time, is this really what discard wants or needs? Or just has room for?

3pp Graceful Charity aside, this card is 2pp draw 2 in the early game, while also adding a 4th through 6th copies of Scalebound Plight into your hand, which is easily one of the best disco cards. Fantastic card.

You can buff it... to get more buffs? Outside this in overflow, nobody in dragon benefits from buff chains, and you can’t use its buffs in overflow anyway. You can set up for Reggie buffs or chef buffs with this card... but you’re using cards which can buff Reggie/chef anyway to do it. Overflow effect seems nice for clearing board tho, I do like it, but we’ll see

Class rating: 1
Shadow seems to have a solid gameplan this expansion with it’s Silvers and Bronzes, and most of it’s cards fit an aggressive gameplan to burn the opponent down.
Great theme with miners and how utterly fatal those were back in the day, especially with all the gold rushes.
Bone Fanatic 1
1pp [Orator of the Bones], except on turn 1, but still having a 1 drop is great. Enhance is better than OG skull lord, but pretty sure it’s not what you wanna be doing.
Cursed Coin 1.25
Amazing draw option for Shadow for decks which don’t mind shadows and board space. Only reason it’s not a 1 is because fitting it in decks with deck space issues or shadow hunger isn’t the wisest idea.
Skeleton Dreamer 1
Buffs a stormer that comes down next turn, or maybe even a Sarc wraith to actually contest board. More attack on stormers basically. And more value on 3 drops.
Grudge Teller 1
Key component of new Shadow burn decks. You reanimate 3 a bunch of times, summon this, and burn bunch of your opponent’s Hp, and profit.
Abysmal Wraith 1
Basically almost an unconditional Dark General. Even on Curve. Even on Reanimate. Also synergistic with billet bikes and rides.
Necroimpulse 1
While this might seem more expensive than it’s cousin Terra Nova, you have to remember this is 8 face damage for 4 in a vacuum, ignoring the 5th follower on board or any rides buffing the ghosts. And unlike [Phantom Howl], these ghosts are unconditional.
Gold Mine Necromancer 2
Base form is kinda expensive, and condition on accel are meh, but turning a 1/1 into a 3/3 and dealing 2 face damage isn’t bad at all for 1pp. Not too sure about base form though.

Blood got a very synergistic set in terms of bronzes and silvers, and many are quite strong as well.
BTW, best aesthetic in the entire set- GAMBLERS! And old Wild West casinos! Really cool stuff.

Basically a 3/3/4 ward that gives an opponent’s follower the inability to attack. Great control tool.

It repairs your Midgame on 6 when it pops, it gives 3 amulets total for Ruinous Spider, and it curves extremely well into Ravening Corruption. Did I mention overstatted, Rush, and 2APC’s?
Fulminating Berserker 1
Accel first off is great. 2pp deal 3 draw 1 with no downsides other than needing an amulet on your side is amazing. Especially in a class with Avarice. Body is also good, with 6/6 storm unconditionally, and you can buff with rides.
Scrappy Werewolf 1
Brings you to wrath when not in it, and is a 2/3/3 storm in wrath amazing card in a deck that needs more finishing power
Bloodfall 2
While it seems like amazing card economy at first glance, remove 3pp worth of value for 1pp, it’s inability to help in more lethal situations is a major minus.
redcap 1
This thing can spiral out of control. With just a single APC, this guy becomes a 3/5/7. And the axe is a minor benefit as more discard fodder for showdown. Amazing pull from Volteo too.
Craps Demon 1
First off, bane is great in combination with ward and/or rush, especially on a cheap 2pp follower. The fact that it heals some damage on top of it is great. The fact that it heAls often a lot (6) when you need it is great as well. this is also thematically the coolest card in the set- you gamble your buff on him to roll his dice, and get defender back based on the result, but in a pinch he rigs the game highly in your favour also a great Volteo target.
Haven
Class rating: 1
Haven got a lot of synergistic support for Amulet and/or Ward, with almost no pack filler.
benevolent Blight 2
With Kel gone, Haven is starved for AOE. And although the lack of body is highly noticeable, the heal, draw, clear, and enhance for more of the above later on may be a decent tech option for later on.
Revolver Eagle 1
Better divine birdsong, or that other card that maybe rotated out getting APC + an ordinary divine birdsong for the same price is splendid. Body isn’t bad, 2 bodies one with rush the other a 3atk storm isn’t the worst for 9pp if finishing the game

2/1/2 that draws a card. Can draw more pretty easily. Basically an Earth sorceress that has 1 less defenders but draws off itself. Ward Haven is already starved for draw, and losing Golden bells will hurt like a bi-

Enhance for possibly 5/7/6 stats all with ward and most targeting protection isn’t bad, but being able to put a 1/1 ward not only to contest board but also to get more use out of Wilbert and Sarissa is also really useful. Did I mention she is a 1/2/2 outside turn 1?
pure metamorphosis 1
2pp transform anything into a 2/1. Remember Presto? That card balances giving a 3/4 that drew your opponent a card on evo by being 2pp. And this one gives a 2/1. Only problem is you can’t get rid of it on your turn.
Shady Priest 1
1pp banish anything lmao. Another amulet to get destroyed, 1pp too. And the body isn’t bad either, tutoring an amulet to use with him and being able to possibly banish multiple things in the midgame is a ton of value.
Set 1
Amazing card. Accel is amazing for heal decks like Elena or new 4pp amulet, or just for procing Lorena. But the body on this thing is so good. Healing, Targeting protection, high defense, AND Bane?! Amazing. And then you remember that you can res this thing with Sarissa for massive tempo swings.
Portal
Class Rating: 2
Portal has some good cards, but lack a cohesive game plan outside float, which lacks synergy with the legends.
mechanical designs 1
Draw engine for float. With all the combos of very chap cards which don’t self replace, resources run out fast, so an extra card a turn could really help.
Wretch 2
What carries this to 2 is him being good going first, and him making a bullet bike to enable Zel to a 1 for 1. Otherwise, meh

Amazing puppet support, cheap puppet generator, and generates lots of dead followers.

Very underwhelming, clunky, and hard to play. Better to just play the artifact than her and why pay 3pp to lower a single pshift by 1, when a 1pp artifacts lowers them all by 1?

Very interesting card that can gain massive advantage the later the game goes on. Reusing many portal followers is a massive blessing. Kinda expensive and can be clunky though.

Portal has little to no ride support- not many buffs and no other payoffs for buffs, other than trading with puppets using additional attack.

Day Trading For A Living?

On August 19, 2019, the Sao Paulo School of Economics published a highly controversial study about Futures day traders in Brazil. This published study made front-page news across the country. Literally, nearly everyone in Brazilian society was talking about the study. Day trading in Brazil is extremely popular, and extremely controversial. Its like soccer.

On one end of the spectrum were the brokers, the educators, the software providers, the soothsayers, and indicator gypsies that have been hyping (and profiting from) the industry for years. On the other end of the spectrum were the scientific community, including social scientists, economists, and data scientists. Let’s just say that the scientific community was in the extreme minority.
The scientific community was extremely skeptical of many of the claims of “people getting rich quick” and the constant television and internet ads that promised “day trading” glory and “work from home” opportunities.
And so, the Sao Paulo School of Economics commissioned a study that tracked a total of 19,646 day traders from 2013 through 2015. The data was broken down into bite-sized chunks to better understand the data.
The first group of day traders totaled 1,111 individuals that day traded only a single day. Of this group, 29.8% achieved a profit.
The second group of day traders totaled 9,978 individuals that day traded between 2 to 50 days. Of this group, 15.5% achieved a profit.
The third group of day traders totaled 3,100 individuals that day traded between 51 to 100 days. Of this group, 8.9% achieved a profit.
The fourth group of day traders totaled 2,738 individuals that day traded between 101 to 200 days. Of this group, 6.8% achieved a profit.
The fifth group of day traders totaled 1,168 individuals that day traded between 201 to 300 days. Of this group, 5.4% achieved a profit.
The sixth group of day traders totaled 1,151 individuals that day traded greater than 300 days. Of this group, 3.0% achieved a profit.
What does this data suggest? Ironically, the data suggests that the odds of achieving day trading success is nearly identical to playing roulette at a casino. The more you play, the greater the likelihood that you will lose everything.
The social scientists were particularly surprised to discover that ‘learning’ played nearly no part in the results. For instance, it was assumed that if a person had traded 6-months and 200+ trades, that they would learn to trade better or improve upon their trading strategies to achieve greater success because they were “learning from experience.”
And this is just what the trading educators want us to believe…that we need to “learn” and over time, this “learning” will improve our results. But the data absolutely destroyed these assumptions. In fact, the more a person “learned” to trade, the worse their performance became. It seems like “practice makes perfect” does not work in day trading Futures markets.
The Brazilian traders that actually earned an income
We all know that some folks, through luck or skill, are going to achieve success. Let’s take a look at those figures now…
The first group of successful day traders totaled 17 individuals that earned an average of $16 per day.
The second group of successful day traders totaled 8 individuals that earned an average of $54 per day.
The third group of successful day traders totaled 1 individual that earned an average of $310 per day.
But here is the sad part…of these successful Futures day traders, the standard deviation of their daily profit ranged from $632 to $3,308. What does that mean? In other words, in order to consistently earn $80 per day, you would also have to experience massive daily fluctuations of between $632 and $3,308.
And based upon the data, only one person was able to earn more than a minimum wage job.

It gets worse

For those 1,151 day traders that persisted 300 days, 97% lost all of their money once commission was factored in.

Even the highest performing trader that earned an average of $310 per day ended up barely profitable once the commissions were factored in. How sad are these numbers?
In conclusion, the study stated that “It is virtually impossible for an individual to day trade for a living, contrary to what the brokerage specialists and course providers often claim.”
So what should you do?
If you are stuck in that sad wheel of constantly funding a day trading account, and constantly looking for a new ‘Guru,’ then perhaps its time to put the mouse away. At least for a while.
The sad and sorry truth is that day trading is mostly a scam. Yes, some can pull it off successfully. Just like how some people will be cured of cancer by drinking apple cider vinegar. But the overall scientific data put the odds at roughly equivalent of playing roulette. The more you play, the greater the likelihood that you will lose everything.
