I've taken 566 outfit photos over 4 years (my style from mid-20s to 30)

I just turned 30.
This is not a story of a fashion epiphany, but one of a slow, if self-indulgent and expensive burn (also, of reading my comment history lol).
From November 2016 to January 2021, I have taken 566 outfit photos. These are my fave outfits of each year.
I was 25 when I first posted in FFA - Posted on 6 November 2016, this was my first ever WAYWT post, just a bit over 4 years ago. FFA has changed a lot since then, and so have I. I used to post religiously, however, I’ve been on and off over the last couple of years, which is not unlike my relationship with fashion.
In that time I have moved countries, developed a horrifying shopping habit and then dropped it, had a few different hairstyles (always messy), travelled, gained and lost weight, and now a pandemic with numerous lockdowns (yay, UK). All of this has had an impact on how I dress and how I feel towards fashion.
2016 - 2017 (26 & 27 years old)
2018 (27 - 28 years old)
2019 (28 - 29 years old)
2020 (29 - 30 years old)
Some things remained unchanged, such as I’ve always enjoyed both short and midi lengths, I love a cinched in waist, I like playing around with texture, I obviously love a good turtleneck, my hair was almost always messy and I still enjoy Isabel Marant.
4 years doesn’t seem like a lot, but it sure looks like a lot when I see how I used to dress versus now, my mindset related to that and lessons learnt.
(If it wasn’t obvious, this is mostly tongue in cheek, and it’s very much based on myself).

Lesson 1: You’re Very Dumb When You’re Young (But Who Isn’t?)
First of all, this happens to so many people.
I had just started my first full time job that year. Ever since I left high school I’ve always loved clothes (I even had a short-lived blog in the early 2010s), and now suddenly having more disposable income than ever that I could spend on my biggest passion (fashion, if you didn’t already realise after clicking on this post while on this subreddit), my already high consumption went positively exospheric. How much I was wearing was not in line with how much I was spending, aka a fucking excess of clothes.
It started with expanding a work wardrobe, which was innocent enough. Previously, I only went to uni a few times a week where didn’t see the same people all the time, and I worked part-time jobs requiring uniforms. Buying extra clothes was reasonable. Then I discovered how easy online shopping was, and how addictive pressing ‘checkout’ was, which then led me onto re-sell designer sites like The RealReal and Vestiaire, and suddenly previous designers I’d always dreamed of wearing were now attainable…to me?! I’m an adult, who makes money, and now I wear designer.
Looking bad, it’s not like I didn’t look good. I rate a lot of my outfits and for the time and place I consider them stylish. But looking at what I used to wear before 2020, the thing that sticks out most isn’t how nice a colour looked on me, or how well I wore a leather mini skirt. The thing that sticks out the most is how completely unsatisfied I always felt after that moment of that ‘new clothes thrill’ wore off - I always thought I could look better, which, of course, meant I needed to buy something else to make sure I did. I used to think about my next purchase immediately after buying something, like someone looking for the next hit. It sounds unhealthy because it is unhealthy.
There were so many items of clothes that I only wore for 1 season. And then there were the clothes I wore just once or twice. This snowballed for the next almost 2 years, and season after season I was virtually buying a new wardrobe because my old clothes seemed too ‘boring’ and ‘old’. The number of times I posted on the weekly Recent Purchases thread is actually appalling thinking about it. Instead of actually thinking of the versatility or functionality of clothes (can this be worn for numerous occasions/seasons? Does this go with enough of what I already own?) I was instead buying clothes in terms of creating specific looks - and if that meant buying a whole outfit, worth it (it’s not, FYI. Ever.) And the thought of re-wearing an outfit? Not a chance.
The amount I dropped on clothing I barely wore during this time is most likely the equivalent of putting down a sizeable deposit on a flat in a decent area of a major city. And when you come to that realisation years later, it will make your stomach drop.
And as another aside, get rid of this habit before you move out. It will save you a lot of stress. And it can take years to drop this habit.

Lesson 2: Unlike What That Guy Says on Hinge, Don’t Be Spontaneous
There isn’t anything wrong with being spontaneous - Like any healthy habits, in moderation it’s not harmful. The thing is, when spontaneous is all the time there’s another way to phrase that. A Really Bad Addiction.
That’s not to say every purchase has to be thought out meticulously to an analytical degree (seriously, that would be stressful in itself) - I genuinely have had some great impulse buys. But these have either been sentimental or have made me feel so amazing in that moment as if that piece of clothing had been made only for me. A kimono-esque robe I bought on sale in Tokyo, a vintage silk midi dress that paved the way for a style that I wear years later, a leather jacket that feels as great as it looks, a sweater that’s both basic but not really, a dress I joke is my wedding dress (I’m not actually joking).
But these sort of spontaneous purchases can only exist as good buys when you otherwise think practically about what you buy. The impulse items mentioned continue to work for me because the rest of my wardrobe is thought out, versatile and thus, those impulse items can be worn again and again with the rest of my wardrobe.
A spontaneous purchase only because you have a discount code, or you need to meet a minimum order, or because it was on sale or because you feel like you have nothing else to wear or to chase a thrill will usually end up as a regret.
Continually impulse buying is just bad consumption, pure and simple.

Lesson 3: If You Love Fashion, Don’t Work in Corporate Retail
I’m half kidding. However, there is a good chance you’ll become disillusioned with anything related to fashion the longer you work for retail companies (both on the floor and in corporate). Especially for big companies.
It started off positive - I was surrounded by clothes and by people talking about clothes. I found similar-minded people who felt the same way about fashion as I did.
I had people to discuss the things we wanted to buy, the designers and labels we loved, Paris/New York/London/Melbourne fashion shows, the sample sales coming up, outfits to gush over (consisting of new purchases, naturally). It was 9-5 of just fashion.
It was also 9-5 of tiring. Especially when I’m discussing how to make people buy more, to consume more, to waste more. Then the stress involved when deliveries miss deadlines due to awful circumstances and senior management are freaking out (a ship capsized and the crew are MIA, but where is the product?), working for companies that churn out clothes every week, for companies that stock problematic brands, for companies that thrive on shopping tourists.
And then there are those moments, like when someone senior comments that the Paris bombing will be good for the company because no one will want to shop in Paris.
You see the ugliest side to the retail industry and there are times when you truly hate fashion.
(FYI, you absolutely can have a fulfilling career in corporate retail, however, I find the people that do are the people who can separate their personal views on clothing and consumerism from their work. I couldn’t.)

Lesson 4: Instagram is Aspiration, Not Inspiration
You are the product. Emily from London and Olivia from Melbourne might seem like your style twin and you just seem like the exact same things, but the reason they listed every brand on their aspirational outfit photo isn’t to help you out - it’s to help them out.
I was so obsessed with consuming anything fashion related on Instagram. I felt like I had to be aware of every single high street brand that existed, follow every popular British influencer (I just felt like British style was Exactly My Vibe, you know?), look like I myself would be the type of person who could post on Instagram.
Nothing I’ve bought because I saw it on an influencer I have kept. No style I modelled off someone who’s taller, skinnier, boobier, blonder than me I have retained. The only thing I got out of looking on social media for fashion inspiration were mountains of garbage bags of donations, moments of feeling shit because it didn’t look the same on me and a lean bank account (remember, I could have bought a flat by now).
Instagram is an amazing platform to express whatever you want. But don’t ever use it as a tool to copy something or someone because no good can come from that.
I look at what I wore in 2017-2018, which are the years I consider the eruption in my Fiery Spending Volcano, and I know I based my outfits on certain influencers thinking, ‘Yes, this is an outfit [insert whoever] would wear,’ or specific items I bought because I saw it on someone. The thing is, I honestly can’t remember who these people were. I genuinely don’t feel a connection to a lot of those outfits, as if it wasn’t actually me wearing it. Now I look at what I’ve worn end of 2019 to now and I know exactly who my outfits were influenced by. Me…I’m influenced by me.
I no longer have Instagram.
(And Nanny Fine will always be the only acceptable influencer.)

Lesson 5: Labels Should Only Come From a Label Maker
Boho chic.
French girl.
LA vibes.
Timeless.
Off duty model.
It’s meaningless. Don’t box yourself in. That’s all.

Lesson 6: Size Absolutely Does Not Matter (in This Case)
Capsule wardrobes are not for me. I need options
An entire room stuffed with clothing is also not for me. I don’t need that many options.
I used to have the mindset I had to have every kind of variation of an item. Take the white t-shirt for example - I needed a cropped white tee, a longline tee, a v-neck, a crew neck, a scoop neck, a dressy tee. Outerwear also used to be a huge problem for me. I mostly live in Australia…I don’t need that many outerwear options because I legitimately will not be able to wear all of them. Variety is nice until it becomes hoarding.
I credit travelling with helping me realise I can easily survive on a smaller wardrobe. I look at what I wore when I went to the UK/EU in 2018 and still love those outfits. I had so much fun in Japan dressing with the 17 items of clothes I packed (braids certainly helped too). Dressing just became easy and I didn’t often have that ‘I have nothing to wear’ feeling because I had purposely packed both clothing that I loved and were versatile. A smaller wardrobe has actually made me feel more creative when putting outfits together. No amount of buying new clothes will ever match the feeling of discovering a new way to wear an old thing.
Not to mention, the fact that I used to think repeating outfits was the biggest fashion crime is as fucking ridiculous as you’re thinking it sounds. If an outfit made me feel so amazing the first time I wore it, why wouldn’t I want to experience that feeling again?
Nowadays I get a lot of comments on how much I re-wear and re-use my clothes and it’s genuinely a great compliment. How much I can see myself re-wearing something is a major factor in my shopping habits. This doesn’t mean I aim to have a classic, timeless style (I personally believe no clothing is truly timeless) nor do I completely avoid trends, but I aim to have clothes that easily go multiple seasons and years. I’ve learnt to become patient with shopping and now routinely wait at least 3 weeks from the first time I see something to gauge how I really feel about it. More often than not, I don’t follow through with purchasing. This also works well for me, as by waiting I then have a chance of purchasing it second-hand, which has become something I do more and more these days beyond just shopping vintage.
Also, no one actually knows nor cares if you repeat outfits. No one is that special that people remember every outfit that person ever wore. They will probably repeat compliments though (because you definitely repeated a great outfit).

My relationship with fashion has been messy. I’ve been obsessed, I’ve been frustrated, I’ve been ambivalent. Now, I’ve calmed down. I used to let my shopping habit define my style, whereas now I’m at a stage when it’s the reverse - It’s no longer a case of ‘I’ll make this purchase work’, but ‘this purchase needs to work for me’. I now consume less fashion news, have a smaller wardrobe, but am probably the most satisfied with the way I dress than I ever have been.

EDIT: It appears this has resonated with a lot of people, which I'm pretty chuffed with as it's things I've increasingly been thinking about over the last year or so. I'm glad people have learnt similar lessons and that people will come to learn similar lessons. To everyone who's already made the step to being a better consumer, keep going, and to those who want to start doing so, it doesn't happen overnight and that's okay. We may not all become the perfect, cleanest consumer, but there are numerous little steps we can take to be better than we were before.

Playboy going public: Porn, Gambling, and Cannabis
!!!WARNING READING AHEAD!!! TL;DR at the end. It will take some time to sort through all the links and read/watch everything, but you should.
In the next couple weeks, Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp is taking Playboy public. The existing ticker MCAC will become PLBY. Special purpose acquisition companies have taken private companies public in recent months with great success. I believe this will be no exception. Notably, Playboy is profitable and has skyrocketing revenue going into a transformational growth phase.
Porn - First and foremost, let's talk about porn. I know what you guys are thinking. “Porno mags are dead. Why would I want to invest in something like that? I can get porn for free online.” Guess what? You are absolutely right. And that’s exactly why Playboy doesn’t do that anymore. That’s right, they eliminated their print division. And yet they somehow STILL make money from porn that people (see: boomers) pay for on their website through PlayboyTV, Playboy Plus, and iPlayboy. Here’s the thing: Playboy has international, multi-generational name recognition from porn. They have content available in 180 countries. It will be the only publicly traded adult entertainment (porn) company. But that is not where this company is going. It will help support them along the way. You can see every Playboy magazine through iPlayboy if you’re interested. NSFW links below:

Gambling - Some of you might recognize the Playboy brand from gambling trips to places like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Cancun, London or Macau. They’ve been in the gambling biz for decades through their casinos, clubs, and licensed gaming products. They see the writing on the wall. COVID is accelerating the transition to digital, application based GAMBLING. That’s right. What we are doing on Robinhood with risky options is gambling, and the only reason regulators might give a shit anymore is because we are making too much money. There may be some restrictions put in place, but gambling from your phone on your couch is not going anywhere. More and more states are allowing things like Draftkings, poker, state ‘lottery” apps, hell - even political betting. Michigan and Virginia just ok’d gambling apps. They won’t be the last. This is all from your couch and any 18 year old with a cracked iphone can access it. Wouldn’t it be cool if Playboy was going to do something like that? They’re already working on it. As per CEO Ben Kohn who we will get to later, “...the company’s casino-style digital gaming products with Scientific Games and Microgaming continue to see significant global growth.” Honestly, I stopped researching Scientific Games' sports betting segment when I saw the word ‘omni-channel’. That told me all I needed to know about it’s success.
“Our SG Sports™ platform is an enhanced, omni-channel solution for online, self-service and retail fixed odds sports betting – from soccer to tennis, basketball, football, baseball, hockey, motor sports, racing and more.”
https://www.scientificgames.com/
https://www.microgaming.co.uk/
“This latter segment has become increasingly enticing for Playboy, and it said last week that it is considering new tie-ups that could include gaming operators like PointsBet and 888Holdings.”
https://calvinayre.com/2020/10/05/business/playboys-gaming-ops-could-get-a-boost-from-spac-purchase/
As per their SEC filing:
“Significant consumer engagement and spend with Playboy-branded gaming properties around the world, including with leading partners such as Microgaming, Scientific Games, and Caesar’s Entertainment, steers our investment in digital gaming, sports betting and other digital offerings to further support our commercial strategy to expand consumer spend with minimal marginal cost, and gain consumer data to inform go-to-market plans across categories.”

They are expanding into more areas of gaming/gambling, working with international players in the digital gaming/gambling arena, and a Playboy sportsbook is on the horizon.

Cannabis - If you’ve ever read through a Playboy magazine, you know they’ve had a positive relationship with cannabis for many years. As of September 2020, Playboy has made a major shift into the cannabis space. Too good to be true you say? Check their website. Playboy currently sells a range of CBD products. This is a good sign. Federal hemp products, which these most likely are, can be mailed across state lines and most importantly for a company like Playboy, can operate through a traditional banking institution. CBD products are usually the first step towards the cannabis space for large companies. Playboy didn’t make these products themselves meaning they are working with a processor in the cannabis industry. Another good sign for future expansion. What else do they have for sale? Pipes, grinders, ashtrays, rolling trays, joint holders. Hmm. Ok. So it looks like they want to sell some shit. They probably don’t have an active interest in cannabis right? Think again:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/javierhasse/2020/09/24/playboy-gets-serious-about-cannabis-law-reform-advocacy-with-new-partnership-grants/?sh=62f044a65cea
“Taking yet another step into the cannabis space, Playboy will be announcing later on Thursday (September, 2020) that it is launching a cannabis law reform and advocacy campaign in partnership with National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), Last Prisoner Project, Marijuana Policy Project, the Veterans Cannabis Project, and the Eaze Momentum Program.”
“According to information procured exclusively, the three-pronged campaign will focus on calling for federal legalization. The program also includes the creation of a mentorship plan, through which the Playboy Foundation will support entrepreneurs from groups that are underrepresented in the industry.” Remember that CEO Kohn from earlier? He wrote this recently:
https://medium.com/naked-open-letters-from-playboy/congress-must-pass-the-more-act-c867c35239ae
Seems like he really wants weed to be legal? Hmm wonder why? The writing's on the wall my friends. Playboy wants into the cannabis industry, they are making steps towards this end, and we have favorable conditions for legislative progress.
Don’t think branding your own cannabis line is profitable or worthwhile? Tell me why these 41 celebrity millionaires and billionaires are dummies. I’ll wait.

Confirmation: I hear you. “This all seems pretty speculative. It would be wildly profitable if they pull this shift off. But how do we really know?” Watch this whole video:

Man - this interview just gets my juices flowing. And highlights one of my favorite reasons for this play. They have so many different business avenues from which a catalyst could appear. I think paying attention, holding shares, and options on these staggered announcements over the next year is the way I am going to go about it. "There's definitely been a shift to direct-to-consumer," he (Kohn) said. "About 50 percent of our revenue today is direct-to-consumer, and that will continue to grow going forward.” “Kohn touted Playboy's portfolio of both digital and consumer products, with casino-style gaming, in particular, serving a crucial role under the company's new business model. Playboy also has its sights on the emerging cannabis market, from CBD products to marijuana products geared toward sexual health and pleasure.” "If THC does become legal in the United States, we have developed certain strains to enhance your sex life that we will launch," Kohn said. https://cheddar.com/media/playboy-goes-public-health-gaming-lifestyle-focus Oh? The CEO actually said it? Ok then. “We have developed certain strains…” They’re already working with growers on strains and genetics? Ok. There are several legal cannabis markets for those products right now, international and stateside. I expect Playboy licensed hemp and THC pre-rolls by EOY. Something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/842996758/10-playboy-pre-roll-tubes-limited?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=pre+roll+playboy&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&organic_search_click=1 Maintaining cannabis operations can be costly and a regulatory headache. Playboy’s licensing strategy allows them to pick successful, established partners and sidestep traditional barriers to entry. You know what I like about these new markets? They’re expanding. Worldwide. And they are going to be a bigger deal than they already are with or without Playboy. Who thinks weed and gambling are going away? Too many people like that stuff. These are easy markets. And Playboy is early enough to carve out their spot in each. Fuck it, read this too: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimosman/2020/10/20/playboy-could-be-the-king-of-spacs-here-are-three-picks/?sh=2e13dcaa3e05
Numbers: You want numbers? I got numbers. As per the company’s most recent SEC filing:
“For the year ended December 31, 2019, and the nine months ended September 30, 2020, Playboy’s historical consolidated revenue was $78.1 million and $101.3 million, respectively, historical consolidated net income (loss) was $(23.6) million and $(4.8) million, respectively, and Adjusted EBITDA was $13.1 million and $21.8 million, respectively.”
“In the nine months ended September 30, 2020, Playboy’s Licensing segment contributed $44.2 million in revenue and $31.1 million in net income.”
“In the ninth months ended September 30, 2020, Playboy’s Direct-to-Consumer segment contributed $40.2 million in revenue and net income of $0.1 million.”
“In the nine months ended September 30, 2020, Playboy’s Digital Subscriptions and Content segment contributed $15.4 million in revenue and net income of $7.4 million.”
They are profitable across all three of their current business segments.
“Playboy’s return to the public markets presents a transformed, streamlined and high-growth business. The Company has over $400 million in cash flows contracted through 2029, sexual wellness products available for sale online and in over 10,000 major retail stores in the US, and a growing variety of clothing and branded lifestyle and digital gaming products.”
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgadata/1803914/000110465921005986/tm2034213-12_defm14a.htm#tSHCF
Growth: Playboy has massive growth in China and massive growth potential in India. “In China, where Playboy has spent more than 25 years building its business, our licensees have an enormous footprint of nearly 2,500 brick and mortar stores and 1,000 ecommerce stores selling high quality, Playboy-branded men’s casual wear, shoes/footwear, sleepwear, swimwear, formal suits, leather & non-leather goods, sweaters, active wear, and accessories. We have achieved significant growth in China licensing revenues over the past several years in partnership with strong licensees and high-quality manufacturers, and we are planning for increased growth through updates to our men’s fashion lines and expansion into adjacent categories in men’s skincare and grooming, sexual wellness, and women’s fashion, a category where recent launches have been well received.” The men’s market in China is about the same size as the entire population of the United States and European Union combined. Playboy is a leading brand in this market. They are expanding into the women’s market too. Did you know CBD toothpaste is huge in China? China loves CBD products and has hemp fields that dwarf those in the US. If Playboy expands their CBD line China it will be huge. Did you know the gambling money in Macau absolutely puts Las Vegas to shame? Technically, it's illegal on the mainland, but in reality, there is a lot of gambling going on in China. https://www.forbes.com/sites/javierhasse/2020/10/19/magic-johnson-and-uncle-buds-cbd-brand-enter-china-via-tmall-partnership/?sh=271776ca411e “In India, Playboy today has a presence through select apparel licensees and hospitality establishments. Consumer research suggests significant growth opportunities in the territory with Playboy’s brand and categories of focus.” “Playboy Enterprises has announced the expansion of its global consumer products business into India as part of a partnership with Jay Jay Iconic Brands, a leading fashion and lifestyle Company in India.” “The Indian market today is dominated by consumers under the age of 35, who represent more than 65 percent of the country’s total population and are driving India’s significant online shopping growth. The Playboy brand’s core values of playfulness and exploration resonate strongly with the expressed desires of today’s younger millennial consumers. For us, Playboy was the perfect fit.” “The Playboy international portfolio has been flourishing for more than 25 years in several South Asian markets such as China and Japan. In particular, it has strategically targeted the millennial and gen-Z audiences across categories such as apparel, footwear, home textiles, eyewear and watches.” https://www.licenseglobal.com/industry-news/playboy-expands-global-footprint-india It looks like they gave COVID the heisman in terms of net damage sustained: “Although Playboy has not suffered any material adverse consequences to date from the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has been impacted both negatively and positively. The remote working and stay-at-home orders resulted in the closure of the London Playboy Club and retail stores of Playboy’s licensees, decreasing licensing revenues in the second quarter, as well as causing supply chain disruption and less efficient product development thereby slowing the launch of new products. However, these negative impacts were offset by an increase in Yandy’s direct-to-consumer sales, which have benefited in part from overall increases in online retail sales so far during the pandemic.” Looks like the positives are long term (Yandy acquisition) and the negatives are temporary (stay-at-home orders).
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgadata/1803914/000110465921006093/tm213766-1_defa14a.htm
This speaks to their ability to maintain a financially solvent company throughout the transition phase to the aforementioned areas. They’d say some fancy shit like “expanded business model to encompass four key revenue streams: Sexual Wellness, Style & Apparel, Gaming & Lifestyle, and Beauty & Grooming.” I hear “we’re just biding our time with these trinkets until those dollar dollar bill y’all markets are fully up and running.” But the truth is these existing revenue streams are profitable, scalable, and rapidly expanding Playboy’s e-commerce segment around the world.
"Even in the face of COVID this year, we've been able to grow EBITDA over 100 percent and revenue over 68 percent, and I expect that to accelerate going into 2021," he said. “Playboy is accelerating its growth in company-owned and branded consumer products in attractive and expanding markets in which it has a proven history of brand affinity and consumer spend.”
Also in the SEC filing, the Time Frame:
“As we detailed in the definitive proxy statement, the SPAC stockholder meeting to vote on the transaction has been set for February 9th, and, subject to stockholder approval and satisfaction of the other closing conditions, we expect to complete the merger and begin trading on NASDAQ under ticker PLBY shortly thereafter,” concluded Kohn.
The Players: Suhail “The Whale” Rizvi (HMFIC), Ben “The Bridge” Kohn (CEO), “lil” Suying Liu & “Big” Dong Liu (Young-gun China gang). I encourage you to look these folks up. The real OG here is Suhail Rizvi. He’s from India originally and Chairman of the Board for the new PLBY company. He was an early investor in Twitter, Square, Facebook and others. His firm, Rizvi Traverse, currently invests in Instacart, Pinterest, Snapchat, Playboy, and SpaceX. Maybe you’ve heard of them. “Rizvi, who owns a sprawling three-home compound in Greenwich, Connecticut, and a 1.65-acre estate in Palm Beach, Florida, near Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg, moved to Iowa Falls when he was five. His father was a professor of psychology at Iowa. Along with his older brother Ashraf, a hedge fund manager, Rizvi graduated from Wharton business school.” “Suhail Rizvi: the 47-year-old 'unsocial' social media baron: When Twitter goes public in the coming weeks (2013), one of the biggest winners will be a 47-year-old financier who guards his secrecy so zealously that he employs a person to take down his Wikipedia entry and scrub his photos from the internet. In IPO, Twitter seeks to be 'anti-FB'” “Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia looks like a big Twitter winner. So do the moneyed clients of Jamie Dimon. But as you’ve-got-to-be-joking wealth washed over Twitter on Thursday — a company that didn’t exist eight years ago was worth $31.7 billion after its first day on the stock market — the non-boldface name of the moment is Suhail R. Rizvi. Mr. Rizvi, 47, runs a private investment company that is the largest outside investor in Twitter with a 15.6 percent stake worth $3.8 billion at the end of trading on Thursday (November, 2013). Using a web of connections in the tech industry and in finance, as well as a hearty dose of good timing, he brought many prominent names in at the ground floor, including the Saudi prince and some of JPMorgan’s wealthiest clients.” https://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/08/technology/at-twitter-working-behind-the-scenes-toward-a-billion-dollar-payday.html Y’all like that Arab money? How about a dude that can call up Saudi Princes and convince them to spend? Funniest shit about I read about him: “Rizvi was able to buy only $100 million in Facebook shortly before its IPO, thus limiting his returns, according to people with knowledge of the matter.” Poor guy :(
He should be fine with the 16 million PLBY shares he's going to have though :)
Shuhail also has experience in the entertainment industry. He’s invested in companies like SESAC, ICM, and Summit Entertainment. He’s got Hollywood connections to blast this stuff post-merger. And he’s at least partially responsible for that whole Twilight thing. I’m team Edward btw.
I really like what Suhail has done so far. He’s lurked in the shadows while Kohn is consolidating the company, trimming the fat, making Playboy profitable, and aiming the ship at modern growing markets.

Ben “The Bridge” Kohn is an interesting guy. He’s the connection between Rizvi Traverse and Playboy. He’s both CEO of Playboy and was previously Managing Partner at Rizvi Traverse. Ben seems to be the voice of the Playboy-Rizvi partnership, which makes sense with Suhail’s privacy concerns. Kohn said this:
“Today is a very big day for all of us at Playboy and for all our partners globally. I stepped into the CEO role at Playboy in 2017 because I saw the biggest opportunity of my career. Playboy is a brand and platform that could not be replicated today. It has massive global reach, with more than $3B of global consumer spend and products sold in over 180 countries. Our mission – to create a culture where all people can pursue pleasure – is rooted in our 67-year history and creates a clear focus for our business and role we play in people’s lives, providing them with the products, services and experiences that create a lifestyle of pleasure. We are taking this step into the public markets because the committed capital will enable us to accelerate our product development and go-to-market strategies and to more rapidly build our direct to consumer capabilities,” said Ben Kohn, CEO of Playboy.
“Playboy today is a highly profitable commerce business with a total addressable market projected in the trillions of dollars,” Mr. Kohn continued, “We are actively selling into the Sexual Wellness consumer category, projected to be approximately $400 billion in size by 2024, where our recently launched intimacy products have rolled out to more than 10,000 stores at major US retailers in the United States. Combined with our owned & operated ecommerce Sexual Wellness initiatives, the category will contribute more than 40% of our revenue this year. In our Apparel and Beauty categories, our collaborations with high-end fashion brands including Missguided and PacSun are projected to achieve over $50M in retail sales across the US and UK this year, our leading men’s apparel lines in China expanded to nearly 2500 brick and mortar stores and almost 1000 digital stores, and our new men’s and women’s fragrance line recently launched in Europe. In Gaming, our casino-style digital gaming products with Scientific Games and Microgaming continue to see significant global growth. Our product strategy is informed by years of consumer data as we actively expand from a purely licensing model into owning and operating key high-growth product lines focused on driving profitability and consumer lifetime value. We are thrilled about the future of Playboy. Our foundation has been set to drive further growth and margin, and with the committed capital from this transaction and our more than $180M in NOLs, we will take advantage of the opportunity in front of us, building to our goal of $100M of adjusted EBITDA in 2025.”

Also, according to their Form 4s, “Big” Dong Liu and “lil” Suying Liu just loaded up with shares last week. These guys are brothers and seem like the Chinese market connection. They are only 32 & 35 years old. I don’t even know what that means, but it's provocative.

Y’all like that China money?
“Mr. Liu has been the Chief Financial Officer of Dongguan Zhishang Photoelectric Technology Co., Ltd., a regional designer, manufacturer and distributor of LED lights serving commercial customers throughout Southern China since November 2016, at which time he led a syndicate of investments into the firm. Mr. Liu has since overseen the financials of Dongguan Zhishang as well as provided strategic guidance to its board of directors, advising on operational efficiency and cash flow performance. From March 2010 to October 2016, Mr. Liu was the Head of Finance at Feidiao Electrical Group Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese manufacturer of electrical outlets headquartered in Shanghai and with businesses in the greater China region as well as Europe.”
Dr. Suying Liu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp., commented, “Playboy is a unique and compelling investment opportunity, with one of the world’s largest and most recognized brands, its proven consumer affinity and spend, and its enormous future growth potential in its four product segments and new and existing geographic regions. I am thrilled to be partnering with Ben and his exceptional team to bring his vision to fruition.”

These guys are good. They have a proven track record of success across multiple industries. Connections and money run deep with all of these guys. I don’t think they’re in the game to lose.
I was going to write a couple more paragraphs about why you should have a look at this but really the best thing you can do is read this SEC filing from a couple days ago. It explains the situation in far better detail. Specifically, look to page 137 and read through their strategy. Also, look at their ownership percentages and compensation plans including the stock options and their prices. The financials look great, revenue is up 90% Q3, and it looks like a bright future.

I’m hesitant to attach this because his position seems short term, but I’m going to with a warning because he does hit on some good points (two are below his link) and he’s got a sizable position in this thing (500k+ on margin, I think). I don’t know this guy but he did look at the same publicly available info and make roughly the same prediction, albeit without the in depth gambling or cannabis mention. You can also search reddit for ‘MCAC’ and very few relevant results come up and none of them even come close to really looking at this thing.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gOvAd6lebs452hFlWWbxVjQ3VMsjGBkbJeXRwDwIJfM/edit?usp=sharing
“Also, before you people start making claims that Playboy is a “boomer” company, STOP RIGHT THERE. This is not a good argument. Simply put. The only thing that matters is Playboy’s name recognition, not their archaic business model which doesn’t even exist anymore as they have completely repurposed their business.”
“Imagine not buying $MCAC at a 400M valuation lol. Streetwear department is worth 1B alone imo.”
Considering the ridiculous Chinese growth as a lifestyle brand, he’s not wrong.
Current Cultural Significance and Meme Value: A year ago I wouldn’t have included this section but the events from the last several weeks (even going back to tsla) have proven that a company’s ability to meme and/or gain social network popularity can have an effect. Tik-tok, Snapchat, Twitch, Reddit, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter. They all have Playboy stuff on them. Kids in middle and highschool know what Playboy is but will likely never see or touch one of the magazines in person. They’ll have a Playboy hoodie though. Crazy huh? A lot like GME, PLBY would hugely benefit from meme-value stock interest to drive engagement towards their new business model while also building strategic coffers. This interest may not directly and/or significantly move the stock price but can generate significant interest from larger players who will.
Bull Case: The year is 2025. Playboy is now the world leader pleasure brand. They began by offering Playboy licensed gaming products, including gambling products, direct to consumers through existing names. By 2022, demand has skyrocketed and Playboy has designed and released their own gambling platforms. In 2025, they are also a leading cannabis brand in the United States and Canada with proprietary strains and products geared towards sexual wellness. Cannabis was legalized in the US in 2023 when President Biden got glaucoma but had success with cannabis treatment. He personally pushes for cannabis legalization as he steps out of office after his first term. Playboy has also grown their brand in China and India to multi-billion per year markets. The stock goes up from 11ish to 100ish and everyone makes big gains buying somewhere along the way.
Bear Case: The United States does a complete 180 on marijuana and gambling. President Biden overdoses on marijuana in the Lincoln bedroom when his FDs go tits up and he loses a ton of money in his sports book app after the Fighting Blue Hens narrowly lose the National Championship to Bama. Playboy is unable to expand their cannabis and gambling brands but still does well with their worldwide lifestyle brand. They gain and lose some interest in China and India but the markets are too large to ignore them completely. The stock goes up from 11ish to 13ish and everyone makes 15-20% gains.
TL;DR: Successful technology/e-commerce investment firm took over Playboy to turn it into a porn, online gambling/gaming, sports book, cannabis company, worldwide lifestyle brand that promotes sexual wellness, vetern access, women-ownership, minority-ownership, and “pleasure for all”. Does a successful online team reinventing an antiquated physical copy giant sound familiar? No options yet, shares only for now. $11.38 per share at time of writing. My guess? $20 by the end of February. $50 by EOY. This is not financial advice. I am not qualified to give financial advice. I’m just sayin’ I would personally use a Playboy sports book app while smoking a Playboy strain specific joint and it would be cool if they did that. Do your own research. Clarkson's Columns: The BMW 5-series Review & How to Not Buy Furniture

Prepare for a whack from Thor's hammer — The Clarkson Review: BMW 5-series
By Jeremy Clarkson (Sunday Times, Jan. 24)
If you are going to get coronavirus — and, let's be frank, you are — now would be a great time. Because you can just sit in your bedroom eating cheese and drinking wine, knowing that even if you could get up there's nowhere to go and nothing to do.
Stupidly I caught the bloody thing on December 22, which meant I missed Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and the game shoot I host every year for my neighbours and their children. And, to make matters worse, I was also unable to drive my new Bentley.
In the summer I spent many happy hours with an extremely keen salesman, who had plainly learnt his customer-relations skills from British Airways' cabin staff, choosing what sort of leather I'd like and what sort of wood. "Any American walnut for yourself at all, sir?"
Eventually, after a seven-month wait, it arrived: the very first new Flying Spur V8 to roll off the surprisingly busy production line. I was very happy and leapt about in the yard, clutching my tinkle and making satisfied "ohhh" noises as I pushed and pulled the deeply chromed organ-stop vent knobs. My grandfather always had Bentleys and I think he'd be pleased to know his grandson has gone down the same road.
But I couldn't go down the road. I couldn't even go down the stairs. All I could do was sit by the bedroom window, looking at its big shiny disc brakes becoming rusty and brown. It worried me that it would feel sad, having been delivered to its new home, only to find its new owner obviously wasn't interested. As if it had gone to one of those Middle Eastern types who buy a Ferrari and then leave it in an airport car park for five years.
After days, when I was finally allowed out of the bottle bank my bedroom had become, I was desperate to go somewhere, but, unfortunately, my timing was off again. Because the third great lockdown had begun. So I had been confined to barracks and now, even though I was a walking antibody, I was confined to barracks again.
Happily I was allowed to go to the village shop for newspapers and milk, but it felt wrong somehow to use a Bentley for such a trivial job. It would be like flying to Jersey in a space shuttle. So, because my old Range Rover was in hospital having new turbochargers fitted, I decided to use the car I'd been sent to test over yuletide. And which had also been sitting around doing nothing for two weeks.
It was a dark blue BMW 5-series of some kind. Yes, I noticed as I got in that it had an M badge on the front wing, but that doesn't mean anything any more, because BMW puts M badges on every damn thing these days. I bet if you go to the lavatory at its head office in Munich the bog rolls come with a Motorsport logo.
Sure enough, when I pushed the starter button the engine burst into life with all the excitement and pizzazz of a Welsh parliament committee meeting on road safety initiatives. And having pulled the gearlever backwards twice to make the car go forwards, I dribbled down the drive thanking God for the heated steering wheel. And nothing else.
When I came out of the shop I noticed that on the boot lid it said M550i, but again that doesn't mean a lot these days. There was a time when the first number told you what sort of BMW it was and the last two how big the engine was. A 325, for example, was a 3-series with a 2.5-litre engine. A 730 was a 7-series with a 3-litre engine. But now BMW plucks the last two numbers out of a bag.
To prove the point to myself, I waited until I reached the bottom of my drive before having a "told you so" stab on the throttle. And, oh my God, did I get a surprise. Because this quiet, unassuming, four-door saloon took off as if it had been hit up the backside by Thor's hammer. You thought the last M5 was quick? This thing gives it a run for its money.
Further investigations revealed a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 under the bonnet that produces almost no noise at all, and 523 horsepowers, which are sent through an eight-speed gearbox to all four corners.
That's why it had set off so quickly. Because it's immensely powerful and has four-wheel drive. Over the next few days the weather did all the beastly things it can do in the winter, which meant that the Bentley continued to sit outside my house and I went everywhere in that astonishing BMW.
Oh, and don't think it's just an understudy stopgap until the new M5 comes along, because it's more than that. Frankly, I reckon the M5 will just be a 550i with added noise and discomfort.
Soon I began to hunt around for things to dislike, but there was nothing. I've not enjoyed the steering feel in high-performance BMWs of late — the last M3 I drove was shockingly bad — but this was quick when you wanted it to be quick and soft when you didn't. It's the same story with the ride and the handling. Without touching any of the buttons that alter the suspension, it was darty and agile on country roads and felt like a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy on the motorway.
The seats were perfect, the driving position was perfect, and you didn't have to be Bill Gates or 12 years old to find your way round the infotainment system. What's more, the headlights are capable of illuminating Exeter, even if you're in Norwich, there's tons of room in the back, and you get more space in the boot than you do in the back of a Lincoln Continental.
And it's all wrapped up in a body that's so completely devoid of showiness that you can drive around in a pandemic and no one notices. Audi and Mercedes do cars similar to this, but both of them make Tarzan noises and have Dynasty shoulder pad wheel arch extensions. The Beemer, meanwhile, makes no attempt at all even to hint at the power it can deploy. I really liked that.
I suppose at this point I should mention that there are lots of new 5-series models. There's a diesel and a plug-in hybrid, and even the cooking models come with some kind of polar-bear-friendly recharging system that's not interesting. Unless you enjoy talking about benefits in kind. But the stand-out star is the faultless and fabulous M550i.
That said, I was very happy to see the back of it. Because, finally, I could take my new Bentley for a drive. We went to the post office yesterday. Today I shall take it to Burford to drop off some jam. These are exciting times.

Going, going, gone — my opening bid for online auction glory ended with a fat lot of nothing
By Jeremy Clarkson (Sunday Times, Jan. 24)
For the past year or so, I've been living in the world's smallest cottage while a team of men in hard hats and visible clothing build me a house. The first lockdown meant nothing happened for five weeks, but despite this, it's now house-shaped. It even has windows, and soon it'll have a roof.
By the summer, it will be finished and then I'll have a problem, because all the furniture I currently own would fit in the downstairs lavatory.
That's why my eyebrows shot up by 6 feet when I was told about a local chap who was selling virtually all the contents of his large country house in Oxfordshire. It's called Aynhoe Park and apparently it's been used as a party venue in recent times for celebrities such as Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. So everything in there was pretty groovy. Especially the stuffed giraffes and the picture of a naked young lady being pleasured by a swan.
I went to a viewing, which, in lockdown, was quite tricky, as it's difficult to juggle a pen, a notebook, the 390-page-plus auction catalogue, a mask, a cup of coffee and a phone. And it was even harder to hear what the guide was saying when he was talking through three layers of germ-absorbent material and I was 9 feet away. Or see what he was talking about, because the mask meant my glasses kept steaming up.
But after just three hours, I had decided that I would be bidding for 30 of the 605 lots.
I have it in my mind that auctions turn retail therapy into a sport, because, using quick wits and a numbered table tennis bat, you're competing for glory against a room full of opponents. There's even an audience to whoop and cheer and applaud when you win.
That's why charity auctions always do so well. No one actually wants a rugby ball signed by Lawrence Dallaglio, but sitting at a table full of attractive women competing for it is like a mating ritual. And going home with it means you are the king zebra, the walrus with the biggest tusks, the alpha lion.
There's something else too. Auctions are impossibly glamorous. We see this all the time in films — elegant rooms full of people in black tie and ball gowns, discreetly bidding for a watercolour because they know something the rest of the contestants don't. An auction then is where the wise and the well read go to find a bargain.
Of course, in these Coviddy times, the Aynhoe Park event was all being done online, so the day before the sale I went to the auctioneer's website and inputted my credit card number, its expiry date, that little number on the back that's pretty much rubbed off, and all my contact details, which means I'll now get junk mail to the end of time.
And, the next morning, I was told that I'd done something wrong and that I wouldn't be able to log on. This happens every single time I try to use the internet because all websites are designed by foetuses.
Happily, the auctioneer agreed to call me on an old-fashioned phone when my lots were about to come up, so I made myself a cup of coffee and some snacks and sat back, rather looking forward to the day ahead.
I knew I'd be up against some stiff competition because the sale had been written about in every newspaper — apart perhaps from the Daily Mirror and the Morning Star — and every house round here had a catalogue on the ottoman.
It was a big deal. I had a friend in faraway Tooting in south London, who was after a 6 foot floor lamp in the shape of a palm tree, and another who called from the Turks and Caicos to say he wanted a wooden head.
It was sad that we wouldn't be in the same room, but after the sale was over, both, I knew, would be staggered and impressed when they heard about the haul I'd amassed. Thirty pieces. I'd be the cock of the walk.
The first lot in which I'd expressed an interest was No 3, a pair of large mustard-coloured "castle chairs" that had a guide price in the catalogue of between £1,500 and £2,500. That was steep, especially when you factor in the 25% "buyer's premium". And the VAT on top of that. But these things were as luxuriant as Laurence Llewellyn- Bowen's hair, so I liked them. I wanted them. And soon they would be mine.
Bidding opened at £3,000, and before I'd had a chance to fall out of my chair, it had reached £4,000. The man on the other end of the line asked if I'd like to go higher, and after I stuttered "no", I heard the gavel fall.
I figured, though, that this was nothing more than early-doors enthusiasm and that as the day wore on, and people settled down, the prices would fall. But no. Every few minutes, the phone would ring, the bidding would start way above the guide price and end up moments later in the stratosphere. One rather pretty dragonfly wall light that had an estimated value starting from £1,000 went for 12 times that.
I guess the problem was simple. People knew the recent history of Aynhoe Park. They knew that Kate Moss had read by the light from that dragonfly and that Colin Firth had sat in those armchairs and that Cara Delevingne had slept in that bed. And they were paying big money for this celebrity connection.
But whatever the reason, when the gigantic two-day sale ended, I had bought the square root of absolutely nothing at all. Which means that when the lockdown ends, I shall have to visit my local and rather excellent antique shop where I can buy all the things I need for about 50 quid.
Already, I have my eye on a mirror that's currently being displayed in the window.
It's only £25, possibly because no one from Love Island has ever used it as a chopping board.

Lord Waheed Alli (chairman of Koovs) who systematically robbed UK investors

Lord Waheed Alli who systematically robbed the small investors of Koovs, a UK listed company which was pushed deliberately to administration by him to only buy it cheaper for £3 million after spending £100 millions of investors money. The worst part is most of the media and politicians are behind him. However the small investors are not going to giveup on this battle.
Below is the full story in TheTimes.
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/labour-peer-lord-alli-feels-heat-over-asos-of-india-deal-tnr8nxb3p
To celebrate his elevation to the House of Lords, in August 1998 the media tycoon and newly anointed Labour peer Waheed Alli entertained guests including the actor Ross Kemp and TV presenter Vanessa Feltz at his Kent mansion, with dodgem cars and waltzers and peacocks roaming the grounds. Baron Alli of Norbury — who was part of Tony Blair’s inner circle — has always known how to party. But for shareholders in Koovs, Alli’s online fashion business, the music has stopped abruptly. The company dubbed the “Asos of India” collapsed in December 2019, wiping out shareholders. Alli picked it up on the cheap through a pre-pack sale, where a buyer is lined up before a company goes into administration. Shareholders ask whether Alli, 56, orchestrated a move to buy Koovs on the cheap by secretly setting up a vehicle to buy it and lining up administrators for the deal without the knowledge of its advisers. Administrators from FRP are investigating with the help of lawyers at RPC. In 2019, the loss-making company shipped about 900,000 orders of its low-cost clothes. It hoped to turn a big profit by attracting millions of fashion-aware young Indians.
Alli, the biggest secured creditor, picked up Koovs and its assets for about £3m — a quarter of its value when its shares on AIM were suspended. It floated in 2014 at £36m. The investors are now weighing legal action. Alli’s rise is a rags-to-riches classic. Born in Croydon, south London, he left school at 16 to support his Indo-Caribbean parents. After stints in investment research and consulting, he joined Bob Geldof and Charlie Parsons, his former life partner, at Planet 24, which they grew into one of Britain’s most successful independent TV companies. It was a force behind brash 1990s culture, creating The Big Breakfast for Channel 4. Alli was dubbed the man who “perfected TV presented by morons for morons”. He was popular — but had a ruthless streak.
By this time, Alli had cemented himself as a vital cog in the New Labour machine, turning the party’s political broadcasts into slick productions aimed at younger people. At 34, he became Britain’s youngest life peer and then revealed to the House of Lords that he was gay. He remains influential in Labour. Last year, he donated £125,000 to the party and £100,000 to Keir Starmer’s leadership campaign. He became chairman of Asos, then chairman of the TV production company Chorion, behind shows such as Peter Rabbit. Viscount (William) Astor, Samantha Cameron’s stepfather, joined the board. Their company, Silvergate Media, snapped up the rights to Beatrix Potter and The Octonauts in 2011 from the private equity giant 3i.
Alli set up Koovs in 2012, armed with millions earned selling shares in Asos, which he chaired for 12 years, hoping to replicate its success in India. Koovs floated on London’s junior market with Alli as chairman. Mary Turner, a non-executive director at Asos, joined as chief executive, while Baroness Rebuck, the chairwoman of Penguin Random House UK, and Astor’s stepdaughter Emily Sheffield, now editor of the London Evening Standard, joined the board. Marketing campaigns with Bollywood stars followed, but the company suffered a blow in 2016 when India’s prime minister Narendra Modi took high-denomination banknotes out of circulation, hitting online businesses that rely on cash payments from customers on delivery. Koovs appeared to recover when it struck a deal with Kishore Biyani, an Indian retail billionaire, in 2018. Future Lifestyle Fashions Limited (FLFL) would invest up to £10.5m for a 29.9% stake. Koovs received the first chunk in May 2019 and another small amount a few months later, but in October warned the Reserve Bank of India had demanded that FLFL reapply for approval, leaving Koovs with just £3.3m in cash. It was waiting on a £6.5m cash injection from FLFL that never materialised. Shareholders were starting to panic, having contributed heavily to the £80m that had been ploughed in. What they did not know was that a week before that initial warning about the FLFL funding, Alli had set up the vehicle that went on to buy Koovs in a pre-pack that wiped out shareholders and gave him full control eight weeks later. Silvergate Investments 3 Limited, now called SGIK 3 Investments Limited, was registered by Alli at Companies House on October 15, 2019. Later that month Koovs said it was considering other funding options but failed to mention it had engaged FRP to help find a buyer. FRP’s report a few weeks after the sale to Alli also revealed “it was anticipated” that if its efforts failed there would be a pre-pack administration sale. Shareholders argue this should have been disclosed. The company said nothing until three weeks later, when it warned that without funding it might not be able to continue as a going concern — but still did not reveal FRP’s search for a buyer or the possible pre-pack sale process. Koovs’s nominated adviser, the broker Strand Hanson, whose role was to monitor communications with investors, said “at no time were we informed of either the board’s intention to appoint FRP or of the imminent pre-pack administration sale process”. Jamie Adlam, an investor from Bristol, said he invested after the FLFL deal in 2018, putting in about £450,000, saying he was stupid but was “suckered in by the hype”. Another shareholder said he had invested his mother’s life savings: about £600,000. “Alli being a lord is one of the reasons a lot of us were in.’ ” Alli’s deal means Koovs continues to trade through its website. Alli did not respond to texts, emails or calls. Silvergate, where Alli is chief executive, has fared rather better. In 2016, he sold a 51% stake to Los Angeles-based Shamrock Capital. And on the day Koovs collapsed, Silvergate was bought by Sony Pictures Television for $195m — a move that rubbed further salt into the wounds of Koovs’s shareholders.

The best rain jacket — Typical Contents

Preface:
This is a new guide from Typical Contents, the “wirecutter for clothes”. It’s by the team behind Epochs, a now defunct menswear blog.
*We’re reviewing categories of clothing in hopes of finding the best item(s) in that category. This post focused on finding the best rain jackets. We tested 8 different rain jackets. 1 of these, the Arcteryx Zeta AR, was provided to us for review. The rest we bought ourselves. This post does not contain affiliate links.
Check out our previous guides on boxer briefs, plain t-shirts, and low top canvas trainers.
It rains in London, a lot. So there is a need for a go anywhere, do everything rain jacket that can live in your rucksack in case of a shower. A traditional mac or parka works if you know you can expect bad weather but if you’re going for a hike or need to run to the shops while it’s pissing rain, a casual zip up rain jacket is your best bet. Like the best camera, the best rain jacket is the one you have with you.
After researching the best mens rain jackets and testing seven leading brands we think the best go anywhere, do anything rain jacket is Norse Project’s Fyn Shell. Lightweight, water and windproof while being surprisingly breathable the Fyn Shell has the impressive technical features that you’d expect of a high-end outdoors jacket but goes above and beyond with its sleekly futurist design details and quality construction. Pricey but worthwhile. If weight, packability and a pricetag under £100 are your main concern our runner up, the RAINS Ultralight Jacket, is also an excellent jacket to have ready-to-go in your bag. Finally, if you’re on a budget you can’t do better for the money than Uniqlo’s BLOCKTECH Parka.
More than any other category we’ve reviewed, you get what you pay for with rain coats. The trade off with any fully wind and waterproof jacket is price. You could put on a garbage bag and be totally waterproof but your sweat would pool on the inside. The magic of GORE-TEX and similar membrane fabrics is they’re waterproof and breathable — this comes at a premium. We figured for our testing that the coat didn’t necessarily need to tolerate more than an hour or so of hard rain as a city jacket, but it would be a bonus if it could double as a light hiking/outdoors jacket too.

Best overall

Norse Projects Fyn Shell GORE-TEX 2.0
Lightweight, water and windproof while being surprisingly breathable the Fyn Shell has the impressive technical features that you’d expect of a high-end outdoors jacket but goes above and beyond with its sleekly futurist design details and quality construction. Pricey but worthwhile.
$639 from END Clothing (US)
£540 from END Clothing (UK)
It’s hard to sum up what made this jacket stand out so thoroughly from the 7 others I’d reviewed for this article, so maybe I should go with my partner’s comment when I first tried it on: “of all these jackets, this is the one that actually made your outfit better.” That was true, but it wasn’t just that it’s subtly futuristic design looked better, it felt better too. The fabric was lightweight enough as to be barely noticeable when walking, the texture had an almost moleskin like brushed cotton effect and was nearly silent as I moved, in comparison to the swishy crinkled sounding textures of some of the competitors. The generous Kangaroo style pockets in the front felt so natural and easy to settle into and when I zipped it up I felt fully cocooned and protected from the elements without the somewhat locked in and stifled feeling some other jackets in this category gave me. I also loved the cut of the Fyn Shell, it hangs fairly loosely from the shoulders with plenty of room through the arms and body (in fact especially under the armpits) so you always feel like you have your full range of movement available to you.
Style wise, you can just see the love that went into this design and credit to the people at Norse Projects. It really feels like everything has been thought through and laboured over (in a way that the photography doesn’t really do justice to). My partner who trained as a menswear designer was especially taken with the clean, pressed seams and bar tack details on the pockets “a technical jacket wet dream basically.”
What about the actual function though? Well we decided to get in an expert and asked Jessica Sheil, a raw materials and sustainability specialist who has worked for brands like Primark, Arcteryx and Lululemon to have a look over the Fyn Shell’s specs. Her verdict was positive, with Jess reckoning it had all the high-end wind and water protection you’d expect from a modern GORE-TEX jacket and noted the environmental credentials of it’s water-repellant coating. Many jackets have DWR’s which are essentially the chemical treatments that make water bead up and brush easily from their fabric. Unfortunately, some of these are especially hazardous to the outdoor environment. PFCec free DWR’s on the other hand are treatments with similar water repellency that don’t harm the environment, although they do suffer slightly in performance when it comes to oil repellency around cuffs and collars. We’re willing to sacrifice a little performance for the environment so thought this was a nice touch.
Then there are the pockets. Oh god, the pockets. 8 pockets! It’s got your kangaroo pockets, it’s got your forward facing zip pocket on the breast, it’s got your sealed pockets with no topstitching to easily slide your phone or wallet into on the inside hip, it’s got the three internal zip pockets for anything else you need to squirrel away. This jacket is a pocket utility dream and blows everything else I tested out of the water. While it wasn’t the lightest of our raincoats, I found it folded up into the hood to comfortably fit into the bottom third of my 16L rucksack.
The cuffs were an elegant single snap to tighten the sleeves, which if you are used to velcro or elastic might be annoyingly un-customisable but I found perfectly comfortable. I also liked that there was the option to pair the jacket with their Otto light primaloft liner to make it a properly year round jacket, and the fit left plenty of room for layering. Finally, I found myself happiest with the hood peak of all our tested jackets, it was rigid enough to hold its shape when folded out and provided decent visibility while keeping the rain from my face.

Downsides

So, what are the downsides? Well at £530 this was the most expensive of all the piece I reviewed for this article, and thats to be expected. From my experience in the industry outerwear is just one of those categories in which you get what you pay for on the whole, especially when it comes to high-end technical fabrications like those made from GORE-TEX. On the other hand, it was a similar price to the purely utilitarian Arcteryx Zeta AR that we also tested but with the additional serious style chops. When it comes down to it, if you’re going to pay that kind of money for the fabrication and performance of a jacket in this category, why not have one that looks great too?

What we’d like to see improved

While everything about the jacket itself is near perfect, and nothing stood out to me as being in need of improvement, something like a zip in bag to pack it in when not in use would be a nice touch. The biggest improvement I could think of is actually around the transparency over the production and environmental impact of the jacket. Aside from a product description noting the use of PFCec free DWR there was no information I could find on Norse Projects’ site about the environmental or workplace credentials of the company, and although most of their product is produced in Portugal and the US, their GORE-TEX range is produced in China which if you’re going on recent information is an ethical minefield. A sub-site like those employed by Asket for their products to show the factories used and the impact of production would go a long way towards giving more ethically-minded customers an informed choice, especially at a premium price point.

Conclusion

As far as I’m concerned, the Norse Project Fyn Shell is the best of it’s kind. A near perfect marriage of elegant form and cutting edge function.

Also good

RAINS Ultralight Jacket
For the city commuter who wants a good looking, incredibly light and genuinely waterproof raincoat that won’t cost more than £100. The Rains ultralight is a gem, albeit, one that offers a less breathable and durable fabric than our main pick.
$125 AT RAINS (US)
£89 AT RAINS (UK)
The first impression when I unpacked the RAINS Ultralight Jacket was just awe at the sheer lightness of it, the weight you’d associate with a poplin dress shirt rather than a piece of outerwear. The texture was also much silkier and softer than I was accustomed to with the generally rubbery feeling polyurethene based raincoats that have become popular in the past decade. When worn over a t‑shirt it felt like it was barely there and I enjoyed the slightly loose ‘90s-esque fit with the elasticated cuff and prominent cord locks on the front of the hood. If you’re looking for a techy bit of kit that doesn’t stray over into cyberpunk nerd territory then this is for you, especially in it’s alternative colourways of camel, olive and light grey.
Styling and extreme lightness aside, it also boasts serious weather protection capabilities: rainproof, windproof and surprisingly breathable for a PU based fabric, albeit, with some sadly tiny vents at the armpits. I did feel like taking it off on London’s incredibly sweaty tube service. Our expert, Jess, noted the wind and waterproofing were lower than what’d you see in high-end GORE-TEX pieces that you’d get from a brand like Arc’teryx but were still more than a match for city wear.
The jacket is so lightweight that I found it could comfortably fold up to fit into all but the smallest cross-body bags and it would fit into the larger front pocket of a rucksack. So if the best rain jacket is the one you have with you, the RAINS ultralight can quite easily be packed away and forgot about until you find you need it. I also appreciated the welted ziphip pockets, handy for a wallet or a phone.

Downsides

Well it’s not really a serious hiking jacket, the fabric is so lightweight that I imagine durability could be a problem with a heavy rucksack. It’s definitely more on the casual end of the styles we tested. I also found that while the hood covered my head snugly the lack of brim meant rain still got into my eyes and face, not the kind of thing you want to wear for hours at a time in a downpour.

Conclusion

The reality is most people don’t need a top of the line jacket to keep the rain and the wind out, especially the casual urban commuter. You need something lightweight to pack when out for a walk with friends or to head into work. You’ll be thankful for how little space the RAINS Ultralight takes up in a rucksack. At £85 it’s also a bargain, only slightly more expensive than our budget pick with better weather proofing credentials and a lighter weight.

Budget pick

Uniqlo BLOCKTECH Parka
Uniqlo have come through with a brilliant all-rounder raincoat at a great price. Looks wise, it compares favourably with our top pick, the trade off is a jacket that doesn’t have the same level of technical performance but does well under commuter conditions.
$79.90 AT UNIQLO (US)
£59.90 AT UNIQLO (UK)
Uniqlo has become something of a running joke among the Typical Contents team for how often it comes up as the best budget pick in our reviews, but really its no surprise. It’s a huge company with a massive team lead by respected designers like Rebekka Bay and Christophe Lemaire. They put all their efforts towards making the best quality affordable basics on the market and not spending much time on the sort of trend-led pieces that their fast-fashion peers thrive on. On it’s own merits the brand is aggressively uncool and basic, only as stylish as the customer can make it — though the brands lifewear magazine, led by Japanese publishing legend Takahiro Kinoshita, has shown the possibilities. There are even amusing guides to “look rich wearing only Uniqlo” which I think speaks to what this brand does so well.
Which brings us to the BLOCKTECH parka. As I expected from Uniqlo this is a really good jacket for the money. When I first tried it on my partner even thought I’d gotten back into the Norse Fyn as they shared similar sleek lines and matte, soft-touch fabric. There is a chance that this is even a dupe of the Norse jacket, but whatever the lineage it’s a great looking functional rain jacket at a suprisingly low price. If you’re looking for a casual rain jacket for occasional use and have a sub £100 budget you could do a lot worse.
Our expert, Jess, noted that the BLOCKTECH parka didn’t meet the legal definitions of waterproof but it held up well under our testing in light showers and under an actual shower. During my research I’d also seen it sited on hiking blogs as being a good budget alternative to higher-end outdoors jackets. There were comments about wet-out over time though this isn’t so much of a concern for commuters.
So as usual with Uniqlo, it doesn’t have quite the wow factor of our other top choices, either from a design or performance perspective, but for the money you probably couldn’t do better and I think the brand itself would say: that’s the point.

Why you should trust us

I’m a professional stylist, working in menswear and based in London. I work on both editorial and e‑commerce shoots and generally spend my time surrounded by racks of clothing. I’ve also written extensively about the history of clothing and style at the now defunct epochs.co and worked previously in fashion retail and visual merchandising.
All clothing was purchased retail* and no gifts or discounts and no preferential treatment was given. I’ve no professional connections with any of the brands we reviewed.
*Arc’teryx were good enough to send us a press sample for review, no favourable treatment or promise of coverage was offered.

How we tested

Researching began online. I checked professional guides, and reviews as well as surveying experts. I hit up our cyclist, runner and outdoors friends for recommendations. I also drew on pieces I had personal experience in and had encountered in my work.
For range I wanted to try different weights and fabrications, largely sticking to more contemporary aesthetics and lighter weights that tended to be synthetic, though I did try a more traditional Stockholm jacket from Stutterheim.
I created a set of criteria that all rain jackets were judged against (see “What to look for” below). All purchased jackets were put in rotation for several months and notes taken on first and subsequent wears. I tracked the different pairs, stored notes, and ranked them using a database before finally compiling my findings into this article. We intend to update this page periodically as we try new jackets (keep and eye on our changelog for updates) as there are other jackets we would still like to try.

What to look for

Easy wearability: I wanted a jacket that was easily available in neutral colourways. This might sound small stakes but so much of the outdoors clothing market is dominated by pretty garish coloured and heavily branded items. It was important that this worked with an everyday casual wardrobe and didn’t look too much like GORP cosplay.
Portability: As I referenced in my introduction, the best rain jacket is the one you have with you, so having the ability to pack down easily was essential to finding the best everyday rain jacket.
Breathable: There is always a trade off when you’re looking at synthetic fabrics designed for keeping wind and rain out and generally it’s the breathability of the cloth. Technology has come a long way though and in our top picks we felt the balance between protection and breathability was met.
Hood: I wanted a hood that offered total protection, ideally with a rigid visor to protect from rainfall without too much loss of visibility. I also rated how adjustable the top picks were both with back and front toggles.
Environmental and social impact: Outdoor apparel is probably the most sustainable segment of the clothing industry but the bar is low and there’s still room for improvement with practices like the use of virgin polyester and toxic chemicals. This is changing rapidly with brands like Patagonia at the forefront of the sustainability revolution in clothing but we were conscious of noting what, if anything, the brands are doing to offset their impact on workers and the planet.
Styling: As referenced in our introduction, we’re not looking for the best ever outdoors jacket, there are other specialists who can do that better than we can, but we did want to find the best looking jackets that can get the job done. It had to be jackets that we’d actually want to wear, and not just when it’s raining.
Elemental protection: While we’re focusing on style, we weren’t ignoring function. A raincoat that doesn’t offer decent protection is just a novelty. We wanted something that wouldn’t dissapoint the casual commuter and occasional hiker if they got caught in a downpour, and we think on balance we found them.
Cuffs and collars: We want the cuffs and collars of the rain jackets to be comfortable, adjustable and in the case of the collar to protect the face when the weather takes a turn.
Fit: Nothing too slim or form fitting, this had to be something you could throw over layers and get the most out of throughout the year, but, we also didn’t want anything too shapeless or utilitarian looking. It was about finding a balance. Generally, we went for hip length but we appreciated the designs that had slightly more length, not enough to restrict movement but offering a bit more protection from the elements.
Movement: The ideal lightweight rain jacket would cover you for a daily run or cycle as well as on a walk to the bus or train, so it had to allow for movement and not be too stifling. We wanted something that emphasised flexibility over complete coverage.
Fabric: We wanted a fabric that had an organic and soft hand feel, ideally without the crinkling plastic feel of some outerwear synthetics.

The competition

The Arcteryx Zeta AR was probably the most hardcore outdoors jacket that we tried out and we were really impressed by it’s performance overall — though I now realise I should have tested their lighter weight LT model. Rain beaded instantly, the hood was generous and the style was on the functional end of things but worked well with a variety of outfits. Downsides were the heavy fabric and a fit on the looser end of things, I’m 5’11 and 150 pounds and the medium was pretty roomy on me, I would probably size down to small next time. This jacket is designed for multi-day treks rather than a cycle into work. It’ll appeal to the hardcore hiking fans.
Coming in at a very similar price point to Uniqlo was Muji’s Waterproof hooded jacket. It had a similar level of quality and water resistance but it just lacked the refinement and styling of the Uniqlo option. It felt just a little bit more drab and functional and while I think I’d be perfectly happy with it, there was nothing exceptional about it. If you aren’t keen on the more futurist aesthetic of Uniqlo’s design then this Muji jacket would be a worthy budget alternative.
Patagonia’s Torrentshell 3L was one of those jackets that we loved the look of, consistently came up on lists of the best rain jackets and according to our expert also boasts some impressive environmental credentials — no surprise, the company is known for it. So it was with some disappointment that when I received the jacket and unwrapped it for the first try on, the fabric felt cheap. It had a plasticky texture and crinkled and swished more than any other we tested. It was difficult to pack small, the shape was a bit lumpy and characterless. At one point I realised why it felt so off, it reminded me of exactly the sort of jacket I would have had as a child in the early 1990’s, the older blends of cotton and polyester that had a similar hand feel. A disappointment.
I’ve always been a big fan of Stutterheim. Their original heavyweight Stockholm model is an elegant take on the classic mid-century fishermans raincoat and their’s was the only model to be produced in Europe. The Stockholm LW seems to be an attempt at taking on Rains at the lighter weight, more affordable end of the rain jacket market and in that sense it suceeds but I felt they failed to do anything interesting with it. The pop buttons are a nice touch, the length was nice sitting halfway down the hip but roomy enough to move in. It looked stylish but it sweat like hell in even light activity and didn’t feel particularly functional. A good and fairly lightweight casual rain jacket but not something I could see myself getting excited over.
We also looked at models from K‑Way the original pack-a-mac style raincoat from the ’70s but I just felt it was a bit redundant at this point and fabric technology had moved on. If your style is a bit more heritage or retro, it could work as a lightweight layer.

Guggenheim, Barbara & Bert Flelds: Guggenheim (not part of the Guggenheim museum family) is a partner at the well-known art advisory firm, Guggenheim, Asher Associates, Inc. They have built collections for Coca Cola and Sony, as well as Tom Cruise and alleged pedophile Steven Spielberg. Epstein victim Maria Farmer once worked for Barbara at her home before meeting Epstein. Farmer got the job through Barbara’s sister, Eileen, who has been accused of being an Epstein enabler. A petition (https://www.change.org/p/david-kratz-eileen-guggenheim-must-be-removed-for-harm-she-caused-to-maria-farmer-by-jeffrey-epstein?recruiter=30424804) to have her removed as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the New York Academy of Art as a result of Maria Farmer’s allegations has over 10,000 signatures. Farmer says that Eileen Guggenheim forced her to sell a painting replicating Degas’s “The Rape” to Epstein. Two weeks after meeting Epstein and Maxwell, Guggenheim took Farmer and other art students to Epstein’s Zorro Ranch in New Mexico (source: https://news.artnet.com/art-world/epstein-ranch-art-students-1760265). Handler, Sharon: International attorney who is friends with Camilla Parker-Bowles and Prince Charles. Married to John Langeloth Loeb Jr., former United States Ambassador to Denmark under Reagan.
Hanover, Ernst & chantal: Prince Ernst Hanover is the head of the royal House of Hanover. The House of Hanover has produced six British monarchs, including King George III and Queen Victoria. The current British monarchy, the Windsors, are actually of German and British descent, which is why these family trees intersect. In the 1980s, Robert worked as a banker at NM Rothschild & Sons before returning to his father’s company. Before getting married, Hanson dated socialite Anouska de Georgiou, who became the first British woman to accuse Jeffrey Epstein of raping her as a teenager (source: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/how-british-teen-model-was-lured-jeffrey-epstein-s-web-n1056901). Odd that Robert Hanson, his brother Brook, and his parents would have wanted anything to do with Epstein.
Hapsburg, Marie: Royalty. Her father was Archduke Joseph Arpad of Austria and her mother, Archduchess Maria of Austria, was a Princess of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg and a member of the House of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg by birth. The Hapsburg (also called Habsburg) family is one of the most powerful and wealthiest families in Europe. The Hapsburgs are another Black Nobility family of very high prestige. I couldn’t find anything out about her husband, Raymond van der Meide. They have 7 children together.
Harvey Victoria: Ex-girlfriend of Prince Andrew, Hervey is an English model and socialite. Although her relationship with Andrew didn’t work out, she remained in his inner circle. In 2000, she attended a dinner with Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and Jeffrey Epstein (source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9844083/lady-victoria-hervey-jeffrey-epstein-too-old/). Hervey is also a friend of Ghislaine Maxwell, who introduced her to Epstein and “set her up in one of Epstein’s apartments in New York.” Hervey is the daughter of Victor Hervey, 6th Marquess of Bristol, businessman and member of the House of Lords.

Hazell-Iveagh, Clare: This amazing thread made by clemanueverers contains all the info you need: https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/hkk5g0/one_of_epstein_madam_ghislaine_maxwells/. Quick summary: Hazell-Iveagh helped Maxwell and Epstein procure children using her position as President of West Suffolk National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). Click on the link. Clemanueverers did a wonderful job.
Hearn, Barry & Susan: Barry is a hugely popular English sports promoter, as is his son, Eddie, who represents some of the biggest boxers in the world. Former boxer and popular Youtuber Tyan Booth was supposedly banned immediately after posting a video connecting Epstein to Hearn. I have tried to find the video or at least a summary of what he said, but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has any info on this, please post below.
Hefner III, Bob: Founder and CEO of GHK Companies, which specializes in oil and natural gas. Founded the Robert and MeiLi Hefner Foundation which sponsors educational trips to China for outstanding high school students. His grandfather, Robert Hefner Sr., served as Mayor of Oklahoma City, was a Supreme Court Justice of Oklahoma, was a member of the executive council of the Boy Scouts of America, and was a thirty-second degree Freemason. Although I try not to engage in speculation, this article makes a connection between Jeffrey Epstein, Bob Hefner III, and a winning Powerball lottery ticket that was purchased in Oklahoma in 2008 (source: https://www.thelostogle.com/2019/08/14/no-jeffrey-epstein-did-not-win-25-million-from-an-oklahoma-lottery-ticket-or-did-he/#comments). It’s too long to summarize. Read it and check it out.
Heiden, Lisa: Worked in Manhattan and London as an executive for ABC. Close friend of Ghislaine Maxwell. According to the fantastic research done by this person (https://twitter.com/Agent99Mom/status/1280580456400982016), two of Lisa Heiden’s properties are listed as an address for Ellmax, a company set up by Ghislaine.
Heineken, Mr. Fredie: A Dutch businessman for the Heineken brewing company. Was chairman and CEO from 1971-1989.

Heseltine, Mr & Mrs: Baron Michael Heseltine is a British businessman and politician who served in various roles in government for British PMs Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Heseltine was a friend of Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine’s father. Heseltine invested in Conservative Parliament member Harvey Proctor’s business after Proctor was forced to resign after it was revealed he had sexual relationships with and took nude pictures of male prostitutes aged 17-21 at his home (source: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/members-interests-top-tories-lose-on-proctors-shop-the-retailer-1445666.html). At the time, it was illegal to have same-sex relations with prostiutes under the age of 21.
Heseltine, Mr & Mrs: Same as above.

Hicks, India: A fashion model in the ‘80s and ‘90s, India Hicks is a good friend of Ghislaine Maxwell. Descendant of the Mountbatten family, a British dynasty (although much of their background is German). Granddaughter of the much-decorated war hero, Lord Mountbatten (Prince Charles’s mentor), who, according to FBI files, was “a homosexual with a perversion for young boys” (source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9745399/lord-mountbatten-fbi-dossier-prince-charles/). Prince Charles is her second cousin and Godfather.

Himmelstein, Howard: Co-owner of clothing brand Camp Beverly Hill and a producescreenwriter.
Hirsch, Jeff: Owner of Foto Care, a shop that sells professional camera equipment. Claims he is only in the ‘Black Book’ because he sold an expensive camera to Ghislaine many years ago and had to go to her house to show her how to use it (source: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/state/florida/article234312632.html). This, however, doesn’t explain why there are two numbers listed under Hirsch’s name that are attributed to Scott Geffert, the General Manager for Advanced Imaging at the MET museum. This could all be innocent or these two could have assisted in Epstein’s hidden camera setup and helped Epstein get high quality pictures of his victims. We can’t be sure.
Hissom, Robert & Andrea: Robert is the founder of Aspen Capital Partners, a large property management firm. He is a friend of Prince Charles. His ex-wife, Andrea, famously got remarried to Steve Wynn, billionaire Las Vegas hotel tycoon. Prince Harry was a guest of Wynn’s at his Encore resort. She is a good friend of India Hicks (mentioned above), the granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten (Prince Charles’s mentor), who, according to FBI files, was “a homosexual with a perversion for young boys.”
Holland-Martin, Ben: Works for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). His mother, Rosamund, was chairman of the NSPCC for 20 years while Princess Margaret was President and was involved with the NSPCC for more than 50 years (source: https://www.newspapers.com/image/?clipping_id=36141343&fcfToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJmcmVlLXZpZXctaWQiOjI1OTU4NDE2NSwiaWF0IjoxNTk0MzMwNTQ0LCJleHAiOjE1OTQ0MTY5NDR9.j1V2e0Mr3tJmPzusRYNneLVhUskWiIAvNIjdIpvuzj4). Both Ben and his mother are/were friends of Princess Margaret. Rosamund Holland-Martin (nee Hornby) was related to Charles Hornby, a British socialite and close friend of Prince Charles, who was sentenced to 2 ½ years for luring young runaway boys into prostitution, indecent assault, importuning, and living off the earnings of prostitution (source: https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=0FQ0AAAAIBAJ&sjid=YbkFAAAAIBAJ&pg=4638,2085303). If anyone has more info on these two, please post. Epstein has 10 pieces of contact information under their name.

I have bolded some of the more interesting connections and information, but there could be much more that I overlooked. I hope something here strikes an interest in someone and maybe we can get more investigations out of this. Please, if you know anything more about any of these people than what is presented here, post below. I am working off of the unredacted black book found here: https://www.coreysdigs.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Jeffrey-Epsteins-Little-Black-Book-unredacted.pdf
W
Wachtmeister, Eric: Swedish Internet entrepreneur. He was the founder of the now defunct social media website, A Small World. The Weinstein Company, Robert Pittman, and Alexander von Furstenberg were all heavy investors and are all listed in Epstein’s black book (check out previous threads for further information). Early in his career, Wachtmeister was an investment banker who worked for Rothschild & Co. and Lehman Brothers. His father was Count Wilhelm Wachtmeister, a Swedish diplomat, ambassador to the United States, and close friend of George H.W. Bush.
Wagner, David: Not enough info.
Wainwright, Rupert: British movie director and producer.
Waksal, Sam: Pharmaceutical entrepreneur and CEO. Despite the nerdy sounding job description, Waksal hobnobs with celebrities. He dated Martha Stewart’s daughter, is a friend of Ronald Perelman’s ex-wife, and counts Mick Jagger among his friends (https://www.nytimes.com/2002/01/24/business/for-imclone-drug-entrepreneur-a-past-of-celebrity-and-notoriety.html). In 2002 and 2003, Waksal pleaded guilty to securities fraud, bank fraud, obstruction of justice, perjury, conspiracy, and wire fraud. He was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2003. He was released in 2009.
Wallace, Mike: Television journalist best known for his role as lead correspondent on the news program 60 Minutes. Longtime 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager, was forced to step down from his position after Ronan Farrow’s article in The New Yorker that mentioned Fager’s sexual misconduct (https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/as-leslie-moonves-negotiates-his-exit-from-cbs-women-raise-new-assault-and-harassment-claims) towards Sarah Johansen, an intern at the time (now a producer) who said that the atmosphere of 60 Minutes was like that of a “boy’s club.” Epstein hosted a reception for Wallace at his NYC mansion back in 1997 (https://www.thedailybeast.com/jeffrey-epstein-had-his-own-lodge-at-interlochens-prestigious-arts-camp-for-kids-in-michigan). Wallace can be seen in this photo (date uncertain, but must have been 1991 or earlier) with Robert Maxwell (Ghislaine’s father) and Donald Trump (https://twitter.com/rudyhavenstein/status/1162119147746029568).
Walters, Barbara: Famous television personality/broadcast journalist known for 20/20, The View, and berating Corey Feldman for trying to “damage an entire industry” when he came out against pedophilia in Hollywood (https://pagesix.com/2017/10/18/barbara-walters-faces-backlash-after-corey-feldman-clip-resurfaces/). Walters goes way back with Ghislaine and her family, as she swam around the same social circles as Ghislaine’s father, Robert Maxwell (https://www.newyorksocialdiary.com/this-was-then-malcolm-forbes-70th-birthday-part-i/). Here is a picture from Steve Forbes’s 70th birthday party (https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/robert-maxwell-barbara-walters-and-merv-adelson-news-photo/81525793) that shows Barbara walking just behind Robert Maxwell. Barbara is pictured here (https://pagesix.com/2020/07/02/pre-arrest-ghislaine-maxwell-with-her-famous-friends/#7) with Ghislaine and some others (7th picture down). We can only wish her the most agonizing of deaths.
Ward, Kevin: A 34-year veteran of the NYPD who was eventually promoted to Borough Commander. Currently the Vice President of Security and Operations for Bryant Park Corporation. Received a Master’s Degree from Harvard, which is extremely rare for a law enforcement official. It’s odd that Epstein would have three different telephone numbers for such a decorated member of law enforcement. Interesting.
Warner, Ozzie: No info found.
Warnford-Davis, Ms Mandy: The former sister-in-law of Ghislaine’s brother, Kevin. Kevin and his wife, Pandora, divorced after more than 20 years of marriage. Mandy is Pandora’s sister. She works as a lawyer in London.
Wasserman, Casey & Laura: Casey is an entertainment and sports agent executive. Grandson of Hollywood mogul and mafia-linked Lee Wasserman. Laura Zifren is Casey’s wife. She is a movie music supervisor. Casey and Laura both appear on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” flight log (https://archive.org/stream/EpsteinFlightLogsLolitaExpress/Jeffrey-Epstein-Flight-Logs-in-PDF-format_djvu.txt) during the infamous Africa trip which featured the likes of Bill Clinton, Kevin Spacey, and Chris Tucker. Casey donates a lot of time and money to the Clinton Foundation and considers Bill Clinton to be a close friend and his philanthropic “mentor” (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/bill-clinton-casey-wasserman-reveal-590405). The Wassermans have donated between $10 and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation (https://www.clintonfoundation.org/contributors?category=%2410%2C000%2C001+to+%2425%2C000%2C000). The Wassermans have set up a charity called The Wasserman Foundation through which they donate money to a number of different causes, including several children’s groups (http://www.wassermanfoundation.org/giving/).
Wassong, David: Managing Director for Soros (yes, that Soros) Fund Management who has worked for Soros for over 20 years (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-01/soros-spins-out-private-equity-team-pledging-up-to-2-billion). Here’s a lovely picture (https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/david-wassong-managing-director-of-soros-fund-management-news-photo/129267700?adppopup=true) of Wassong with Ghislaine Maxwell from 2011. There’s nothing weird about it except for Ghislaine’s eye-catching earrings, which bare a striking resemblance to pedophile symbolism (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3560069/The-symbols-pedophiles-use-signal-sordid-sexual-preferences-social-media.html). David’s father, Dan, was a chronic sexual harasser of his secretaries (https://www.nytimes.com/1995/08/05/nyregion/a-sexual-harasser-his-friends-don-t-recognize-the-description.html). Perhaps sexual deviancy runs in the family.
Wastnage, Lucy: Wife of David Tang. Already listed earlier under ‘Tang, Mr David and Lucy Wastnag.’ Copy and pasted from my ‘T-V’ thread… David was a Hong Kong businessman who founded the Shanghai Tang fashion chain and several restaurants that attract the elite. Tang was a philanthropist who was involved in several charities, including Youth Outreach (YO), a charitable organization started in Hong Kong by Reverend Peter Newberry. This charity’s goal was to help at-risk youths (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/hkedition/2017-09/15/content_32018378.htm). Tang was considered one of the most well-connected people in London. He and his wife, Lucy, counted Prince Andrew, Naomi Campbell, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York (Prince Andrew’s ex-wife), Kevin Spacey, the Duke of Marlborough, and Mick Jagger among their friends (https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/lucy-tang-on-top-the-highs-and-lows-of-a-party-girl-6540808.html). Tang vehemently defended Prince Andrew in 2011 when his relationship with Epstein was made public (https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/theyve-been-tang-oed-sir-david-tang-sets-the-record-straight-6383974.html). Two years later, Ghislaine celebrated her 51st birthday at China Tang, David’s restaurant at the Dorchester Hotel. Despite the backlash Prince Andrew received for counting Epstein among his friends, he attended Ghislaine’s birthday, along with former Labour minister Shaun Woodward and wife Camilla, the Earl and Countess of Derby, Dorrit Moussaieff, the diamond heiress/wife of the president of Iceland, Tamara Beckwith, and John Eliasch, multi-millionaire boss of sports firm Head. Every single one of those people appear in Epstein’s contacts. Epstein had 16 phone numbers, two email addresses, and three street addresses listed under David and Lucy’s names. David Tang died in 2017.
Waterman, Felicity: Model and actress who was a client of Elite Modeling Agency, along with Epstein/Maxwell pals Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum and many other famous models.
Watson, Victoria: Secretary at De Cadenet Motor Racing Limited (https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/officers/9iGn2N_d0fDUZjAwXR1KFgM4qLU/appointments), a company owned by former race car driver Alain de Cadenet, who was listed earlier in Epstein’s black book.
Webb, Veronica: Supermodel. Former Victoria’s Secret (Les Wexner) model.
Weidenfeld, Lord: Founder of Weidenfeld and Nicolson publishing company. Weidenfeld (1919-2016) was a tremendous supporter of Israel and Oxford University. Weidenfeld was close friends with the Rothschilds. For more info on Weidenfeld’s deep-rooted connection with the Rothschilds and Israel, check out this wonderful Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=368&v=N-0ZTc42PnU&feature=emb_logo). It’s very well-researched and connects all the dots. Other high-ranking friends of Weidenfeld included German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former U.S. Secretary of State (and should-be war criminal) Henry Kissinger.
Weinberg, Jason: Top Hollywood talent manager who represents some of the biggest names in movies and television. Weinberg held his 50th birthday at a restaurant in Easthampton, NY (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rambling-reporteharvey-weinstein-katie-holmes-more-flock-east-hamptons-palm-restaurant-jason-weinb). Attendees included Harvey Weinstein and actress Uma Thurman, the ex-fiance of ARK Academy founder and possible pedophile and child trafficker, Arpad Busson. Weinberg has been pictured with Peggy Siegal, the publicist who helped Epstein get into elite parties after he was convicted of procuring an underage girl for prostitution. They likely know each other because they were both trained by legendary Hollywood publicist Bobby Zarem.
Weinstein, Bob: Bob is Harvey Weinstein’s brother and a top movie producer and Hollywood executive. Bob has denied any knowledge of his brother’s seemingly endless sexual harassment charges and has publicly rebuked Harvey. Bob has been accused of harassment by Amanda Segel, a female showrunner (https://variety.com/2017/tv/news/bob-weinstein-sexual-harassment-1202592165/).
Weintraub, Harriet: Founder of public relations firm HWPR (http://hwpr.com/about-us/). Was once in business with Epstein enabler Peggy Siegal (http://orbmagazine.com/the-orbitepeggy-siegal-is-no-longer-the-owner-of-the-peggy-siegal-company/).
Westheimer, Ruth Dr: Better known as Dr. Ruth, the popular sex therapist and TV personality.
Weymouth, Mrs Lally: Senior associate editor of The Washington Post. Eldest child of Katherine Graham, the publisher who ran her family’s newspaper, The Washington Post, from 1963-1991. Lally is best known for throwing huge bipartisan parties at her house in the Hamptons. This article (https://nypost.com/2017/07/10/why-ordinary-americans-hold-politicians-and-media-in-contempt-all-in-one-hamptons-party/) does a great job of detailing who goes to these parties (ex: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner partying with George Soros, Soros partying with David Koch, etc) and the fact that behind closed doors, the same people who publicly insult each other from both sides of the aisle, are actually friends and just laughing at us for believing their theatrics. AGAIN, THE WHOLE IDEA OF PARTISANSHIP IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT. STOP ALIGNING WITH ONE SIDE. IT’S US VS. THEM. THAT’S IT.
White, Somers: Former model and advertising executive. Married to Jonathan Farkas, heir to the Alexander’s department stores fortune. Named to the Commission on Presidential Scholars by Donald Trump in 2019. Pictured here (https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/amy-fine-collins-suzanne-johnson-ghislaine-maxwell-somers-news-photo/1169681593?adppopup=true) with Ghislaine Maxwell.
White, Victoria: Former wife of Lord Gordon White, Texas businessman Tom O’Gara, and famed Hollywood producer Robert Evans.
White, Michael: Likely the theatemovie producer or the British journalist who was the associate editor of The Guardian until 2016 and a regular commentator on BBC. Could be either one.
White O’Gara, Victoria: See Victoria White above.
Whitworth, Alan & Wendy: Wendy Whitworth is a managing editor with ties to Ghislaine and her family. She was managing editor of Remembering for the Future: The Holocaust in An Age of Genocide, an assortment of Holocaust-centered articles, which was released in 2001. Ghislaine Maxwell’s mother, Elisabeth, was the editor-in-chief of the publication. Ghislaine and her sisters, Isabel and Christine, are listed as financial sponsors and committee coordinator (https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/bfm%3A978-1-349-66019-3%2F1.pdf). The honorary president of the publication is Elie Wiesel, the famous authoHolocaust survivor who also appears in Epstein’s book and was also accused of sexual harassment. I believe her husband Alan is an economic adviser, but I’m not entirely sure.
Wiatt, Jim: Former CEO at William Morris, a major talent agency.
Wienberg, Anouska & Mark: Anouska is a hotelier and interior designer. Her husband, Mark, is a financier who co-founded J. Rothschild Assurance, which later became St. James’s Place Wealth Management, along with Jacob Rothschild (https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/lord-weinberg?mediatype=photography&phrase=lord%20weinberg&sort=best). Mark was the honorary treasurer of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and still had a role as one of the Vice Presidents as of 2012 (https://www.nspcc.org.uk/globalassets/documents/annual-reports/nspcc-annual-report-2012.pdf), making this the 12 billionth connection between known pedophile and child trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the NSPCC.
Wiesel Dr Eli and Marion: Wiesel was a famous author, Holocaust survivor, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, but he also supposedly sexually harassed a teenager at a charity event (https://www.newsweek.com/elie-wiesel-me-too-account-690891). Wiesel had longstanding ties to the Maxwell family due to their mutual interest in writing about the Holocaust (https://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/09/business/media/elisabeth-maxwell-widow-who-reinvented-herself-as-holocaust-expert-dies-at-92.html), (https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/bfm%3A978-1-349-66019-3%2F1.pdf). Marion is also a Holocaust survivor and was Elie’s wife.
Wigram Lionel and Lydia: Lionel is a producer who has worked on the Harry Potter films and several Guy Ritchie movies. Lydie is his wife.
Wigram, Lionel: See above.
Williams Alexandra & Nick: Alexandra is the daughter of Michael Heseltine, who was previously listed in Epstein’s ‘black book.’ Michael Heseltine is a British businessman and politician who served in various roles in government for British PMs Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Her siblings, Annabel and Rupert, were listed in Epstein’s book as well. Check out the G-I thread for more info on them. Nick is her husband and the owner of Holloway’s auctioneers.
Williams-Ellis, David & Serena: David is a world-renowned British sculptor. His ex-wife, Serena, is an interior designer.
Willis, Rebecca: Not sure. Could be a climate change/environmental researcher in the UK.
Wilmot-Sitwell, Alex & Fi: Alex is a banker who was CEO of UBS Investment Bank and headed Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s businesses across Europe until 2018. Bank of America Merrill Lynch, incidentally, was the “largest corporate sponsor” for the super shady ARK Academy (https://arkacademy.org/node/51721) under Wilmot-Sitwell. ARK Academy, founded by Arpad Busson (listed in Epstein’s book - read more on him here: https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/cl34ju/arpad_busson_billionaire_businessman_or_possible/), could very well be a system of schools used for child abuse and child trafficking. Caroline Fiona Marr is Alex’s ex-wife.
Wilson, Carter: Barely any info found. Her name is Carter Wilson Hailey. This was her mother (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/harrisonburg-va/margaret-wilson-6505891). Despite the family names/history, I couldn’t find anything on who Carter Wilson actually is.
Windisch Grazot, Manfred: The Windisch-Graetz family comes from a high nobility bloodline. Manfred, considered a prince, takes care of the management and finances of Elitaliana, the oldest Italian helicopter company (https://www.arbiter.it/articolo/il-guardaroba-di-manfred-windisch-graetz/). Member of the Order of Malta (https://www.smomembassytoslovenia.org/heliambulance-blessed-by-the-holy-fathe).
Windsor-Taylor, Tim & Helen: Helen is a member of the Royal Family. Her father is Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who is the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Helen is a patron of CLIC Sargent, a children’s cancer charity (https://web.archive.org/web/20110723085754/http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/Aboutus/Mediacentre/Latestnews/Midsummerpartyraises400000). Her husband, Tim, is an art dealer.
Winn, Steve: Wynn is a billionaire Las Vegas hotel tycoon. Prince Harry was a guest of Wynn’s at his Encore resort. Served as the finance chair of the Republican National Committee from 2017-2018, but had to resign from that post and his position as CEO of Wynn Resorts due to dozens of allegations of sexual misconduct (https://www.newsweek.com/steve-wynn-claims-he-cant-punished-sexual-harassment-claims-because-he-no-longer-company-1472164) by his employees. Wynn and his wife (listed earlier in Epstein’s black book under ‘Hissom, Andrea’) are close friends of Donald and Melania Trump (source: https://www.pressreader.com/uk/scottish-daily-mail/20120901/281904475353844).
Winston, Elizabeth: Not sure. Best guess is a Texas-based conservationist.
Wipple, George: Entertainment and society television journalist.
Wolper, Carol: Author and screenwriter who has also written for Vogue magazine, where Epstein has countless connections.
Wong, Andy: Hong Kong financier and socialite. Hosted a Chinese New Year party in 2002 attended by Prince Andrew (https://www.tatler.com/article/lady-victoria-hervey-defends-duke-of-york-and-fled-epstein-apartment) where the theme was ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ (https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/meet-the-wongs-1529160.html). Here’s are some pictures from that party (https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/prince-andrew-hong-kong-fanancier-andy-wong-and-his-wife-news-photo/104171074 ; https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/sir-dai-llewelyn-amd-masked-girl-hong-kong-fanancier-andy-news-photo/104170961 ; https://www.shutterstock.com/editorial/image-editorial/chinese-new-year-party-hosted-by-andy-wong-and-wife-patti-at-the-reform-club-london-britain-26-jan-2002-375881ah). Here is a link with more pictures (https://www.rexfeatures.com/set/375881) from the party. Many Epstein contacts appear in these photos and also regularly attend the Wongs’ annual Chinese New Year parties. Buzz Aldrin (suspected upper echelon freemason) attended the party as well.
Wong, Theodore: Hedge fund manager. Founder of Constellar Capital LLC. Former managing director at Credit Suisse, a Swedish-based investment bank where Epstein had several contacts. Member of the Sunflower Children's Foundation and St. Jude’s Hospital (https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/person/7519446), two charities dedicated to sickly children.
Woodall, Trinny: Former drug addict socialite and friend of the wealthy and elite (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1216159/The-drug-addict-friends-haunt-Trinny-Woodall.html) who is now a British TV presenter and owner of makeup brand TRINNY LONDON.
Woods Emily & Carrie: Cary Woods is a movie producer. His ex-wife, Emily, is the chairman of J. Crew.
Woodward, Alexa: California-based attorney.
Woodward, Shaun & Camilla: Former British Member of Parliament (MP) and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Shaun is a good friend of Esther Rantzen, an English journalist and television presenter who founded ChildLine, a charity promoting child protection. Incidentally, Rantzen ignored allegations against Jimmy Savile, the notorious pedophile, celebrity, and Royal Family confidant. Rantzen also had an affair with Nicolas Fairbairn, the Scottish politician who was posthumously accused of chronic child abuse and has been linked to Elm Guest House, where politicans (allegedly) had sex with drugged up children (https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13174992.former-judges-shock-over-qc-paedophile-ring-allegations/). Camilla is Woodward’s ex-wife of 28 years and daughter of former Conservative MP and supermarket heir Tim Sainsbury. Since their divorce, Shaun has entered a relationship with Luke Redgrave, a Hollywood camera operator.
Worcester, Marq & Marc of: Henry Somerset, 12th Duke of Beaufort and his ex-wife, Tracy. Henry is an English peer and landowner. Tracy is a former actress.
Wyatt, Jim: See Jim Wiatt (above).
Wyatt, Steve & Cate: Steve is an oil heir and the former lover of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York (Prince Andrew’s ex-wife). Ferguson has always seen Steve as her true love and even went away on vacation with him while she was still with Prince Andrew (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4512442/Fergie-reunited-former-lover-broke-heart.html). Cate is Steve’s ex-wife.
(No ‘X’ last names)

He is also an associate editor at Quillette, an online science magazine. In 2011, Young wrote an article defending Prince Andrew and others who are friends with the likes of Epstein, saying that they are not responsible for their friends actions (https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/status-anxiety-like-prince-andrew-i-stand-by-my-dodgy-mates-). He was suspended from Groucho, a private members club in London, when he admitted to selling and using cocaine there (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1361435/White-powder-scare-at-the-Groucho.html). This flickr page reveals the connection between Toby Young’s New Schools Network and possible pedophile/child trafficker Arpad Busson’s ARK Academy schools (https://www.flickr.com/photos/50295603@N02/49407330397).
Younger, Tracy & Lee, Greg: No info found.
